with family in town and the desire for a casual meal, we chose to dine with la fonda on main on a weekday evening. seating was quick, servicewas good, and the restaurant was clean. those are all some of my expectations that were easily met here at la fonda. be aware that la fonda is not your average tex-mex taco joint. this is authentic mexican cuisine.
starting off, yes, the beer was cold. we ordered coronas all around (no lime for me, please) and a botana platter assorted appetizer platter. this is an excellent appetizer sampler for three that includes beef fajita skewers, flautitas and diablitos. by the way, diablitos are bacon-wrapped chicken nuggets stuffed with cheese and serrano peppers. i have never eaten them before, and i can now suggest them to anyone wanting a tasty appetizer. yummy!
for our entrees, our family member ordered the carne asada a la tampequenia, which is oak-grilled tenderloin strips, one enchilada verde de queso, and guacamole, that is served with frijoles a la charra (a pinto bean soup). he gave it a thumbs up.
my partner ordered the beef grilled fajitas, which is beef, grilled onions and peppers, pico de gallo, guacamole, flour tortillas, along with mexican rice and frijoles a la charra. he gave it a thumbs up.
i ordered the tacos de pescado , which is three spicy fish tacos on wonderful handmade corn tortillas with a tasty chipotle mayonnaise, napa cole slaw with cilantro, and nopalito salad (cactus salad). i like seafood, and this was worthy of two thumbs up.
we all enjoyed our meals, which were very flavorful and well-prepared. la fonda is a great restaurant to have a few beers, entertain family from out of state, and enjoy a great authentic mexican meal.
