best mexican food i've had in a long time. salsa was fresh and very tasty. ambience was fabulous. service brilliant.

best spot to take out of town guests for mexican food. avoid the tourist traps and take guests here for really great mexican food. weather allowing the patio is a wonderful spot to relax and enjoy a great meal.

tres leches. the tres leches was very moist. it had good texture and good flavor.. the plating of the dessert was in a deep saucer type plate. the portion size was about 3x3x2. with a layer of creamy whipped cream on top and garnished with a dulce de leche type sauce drizzled on top and toasted slivered almonds. the sponge of the cake was moist and had a good soaked texture. over all i think this dessert was very good.

birthday party. our family celebrated my wife's 60th birthday on 9-21-14 and had a wonderful time. we reserved the private party room , casa alicia, and it was just the right size but more importantly away from the main restaurant. the event coordinator, regina rocha, was on site and professionally managed all aspects of the event, her staff was courteous, polite and attentive. the dinner, cappy's choice, was delightfully delicious and wonderfully flavored. i would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone.

horrible service for private event. we recently held an event at la fonda on main. at first i was excited because i had seen pictures of their private party room and it's beautiful! however the customer service i given by their event planner and by their owner is horrible. we should have seen the red flags from the beginning with their event planner; not sending us a floor plan, asking to meet/speak about details, not easily accessible but we let it slide since the event was days away.

the day of the event- we were told to enter through the side gate when we arrived. the side gate was locked which isn't a big deal unless you have your hands full and cupcakes with icing that's about to melt due to the 100 degree weather. i went inside to ask about the gate, the hostess says we can enter through the restaurant instead. she sees i'm struggling to open the door to tell the others who are waiting outside by the gate to enter. not once did anyone offer to help get any of the doors for us. fine, let it slide.

in the part room, there were too many chairs for their small round tables. i asked if they could remove a couple of chairs from the tables because we didn't want our guests to be right on top of one another. i like for our guests to be comfortable when sitting for dinner. the event planner proceeded to tell this couldn't be done. after going back and forth with her, i started to remove chairs myself. what does it matter if i want 2,8,12 chairs per table? i know what our guests like and if we are still paying the guarantee amount, it shouldn't matter either. as a paying customer with a contract, i expect to be taken care of. we were spending a few thousand dollars on the event.

now we ask for a small table for the cupcakes. the planner said they couldn't put a table in the room because it wouldn't fit and suggested we put the cupcake stand on a rocky edge that has an uneven surface. the thought of the cupcakes falling over isn't very settling. we refused and said we wanted a table. by removing a few chairs from each table and rearranging the tables ourselves, we were easily able to fit a small table for the cupcakes. why make a big deal over something so small?

we were never greeted, offered any water, asked if we needed anything, nor were we told bye/thanked at the end of the function. we never yelled nor asked to speak to a manager. to top it off, the owner said we were rude and difficult. (we didn't meet the owner, but he was there and said he saw us. he didn't come introduce himself to us.) this happened over the phone before he hung up on us. we will never go back to this place! don't waste your money here if you're looking for a venue or event space, go someplace where the customer is treated the right way!

arrived at 5:45 on a saturday; open tables everywhere! only a few tables seated inside.

asked if we had a reservation - we didn't - it was early. after a 5 minute wait to "check availability" we were told we would have to wait 45 minutes for an inside table. really? we could stand there and look at empty tables for 45 minutes?

oh, and according to open table, which we checked when we got to the car, we could get a reservation for 6:00. so i guess we could have made a reservation and gone back in. but i was not inclined to do so!
i understand the reservation system, but there is something wrong if you can't seat a 2 top in an empty restaurant!

won't be back :(

overall disappointed - overrated food. we are fairly new residents of san antonio. we've been wanting to try lafonda on main and finally made it last night. we were a table of 4 adults. we each ordered fajitas (2 chicken, 1 beef, 1 shrimp) & margaritas on the rocks (2 each). the margaritas were fantastic...made from scratch with fresh squeezed lime juice. but the food was disappointing. the complimentary salsa was nothing special and was full of seeds. the fajitas were average and the portions skimpy. don't get me wrong, we are not huge eaters and don't mind if there are no leftovers. still...the portions were skimpy and we had to ask for extra tortillas. they only brought out at total of 4 for the table. of course, asking for extra tortillas isn't a big deal. the food was presented beautifully and the waiter was attentive without hovering, which was appreciated. however, even with the beautiful surroundings and atmosphere, none of it was remotely worth the $166 tab (with tip). i doubt we will return, even for the fantastic margaritas.

best ever!. everything was hand made fresh and exploded with flavor. i couldn't get over how great our experience was. the appetizer, dinner, margaritas.. awesome!

i went for the vegetarian tacos, which was a tangle of seasonal squashes, grilled poblanos, onions, mushrooms, and black bean puree, accompanied by a spinach and mango salad:

best mexican restaurant in town. sure, it's more expensive than the average grease soaked stuff, but you're getting top notch food. try the shrimp nachos. heck, try it all! love this place.

great place! not your average mexican food joint, so don't go looking for traditional dishes. will definitely be going back!

i have been coming here since i was a little kid. it is our go to place for great food and drinks and the service is always amazing! go on a pretty day and sit outside it is the best!

very good tex-mex; great mexican courtyard/patio ambiance; food is consistently very good; mature, attentive wait staff; margaritas are made with fresh squeezed lime juice and real sugar.... they use a classic, traditional, old school recipe from mexico like you would get in mexico city or acapulco. their guacamole is the best on the planet; the classic plate is the "natalata mexican plate" it's a nice sample of everything tex-mex; like mi tierra, los barrios, casa rio and jacala, la fonda is a "must visit" destination restaurant that everyone needs to try! enjoy!

continually unimpressed for three times. the food is always presented well but it isn't anything special. prices are way too high for what they serve. portions are too small. i think they can put a little more food on the plate for the amount they charge. even with $10 coupon, i still was not delighted with the value. the restaurant does have a nice atmosphere and servers are usually good. i wish they would have more substantial dishes.

tommy k. food was ok price was way to high for what you get.. the service was really bad saturday after !:00 pm waited a long time to place are order ..the waiter was the most un friendly that i have seen in a long time...even one of the managers that walked around to different tables to see how every thing was just skipped us and an went to the next table so sad...
