la bonne bouchee

i'm a little biased in my review because i just love this place so much ☺️. there are so many yummy desserts and it's such a fun place to dine with a girlfriend(s).

yesterday, my girlfriend took me there for lunch for my birthday. i had the frenchonionsoup which was delish - i've been craving some goodonionsoup ever since macy's closed their kitchen downtown, which used to be a christmas time tradition...i digress. soup and sandwich, you can never go wrong and the chicken salad sandwich was generous in size. i only wish they would have brought both out at the same time. my friend had the soup d'jour (cauliflower soup) which was super yummy, even for my 'every tastebud is working' friend. her lunch was paired with a simple side salad that included tomato, onion, cucumber, endive, spinach, and mixed greens.

the kids menu could be improved, the only selections were pb&j, toasted cheese, buttered noodles, and turkey sandwich.

we asked for a dessert menu, but we're only offered selections from a dessert tray, so i'm not really sure if we could have ordered from the case, but the chocolate mousse cake was delish!!

frenchonionis really salty. the cappuccino was watery with no flavor ajd was filled with grounds. the staff was very unprofessional. they were talking about arrest records and childbirth experiences quite loudly using many curse words. it looks fancy and quiet so i thought i would have a much more delightful lunch. the food is quite expensive as well for the quality of service and food. the macaroons aren't fresh, very disappointing.

love this place!. i've been coming here for years. the food and baked goods are consistent and outstanding. the frenchonionsoup is the gold standard of frenchonionsoup in st. louis.

just had a wonderful lunch. delicious frenchonionsoup with yummy chicken salad sandwich. great friendly service with lovely atmosphere. spectacular desserts. will definitely be back

terrible service. we were a table of six (therefore, automatically added tip), and the service was surly at best and disconnected at least. there was not a 'lead server,' apparently, so it's hard to hold only one accountable, but collectively the service was bad. the entrees were acceptable; the frenchonionsoup was good. then to add insult to injury, the queue to pay at the front desk was ten minutes long.

best frenchonionsoup. la bonne bouchee is the best french restaurant in st. louis and the most affordable. they have the best frenchonionsoup in the region, and number two is not even close. it's worth a visit just for that soup and any pastry they've got. but all of the food is good.

beautiful, delicious pastries good salads and very tasty crepes. the frenchonionsoup is also vet delicious. service was a tad bit slow but the food was worth the wait. best madelines i have tasted since i have been stateside. definatly worth a visit.

service may be in true french style... saucy but the pastries are so beautiful you almost don't want to eat them and when you finally do eat them they devour in your mouth. also, try the frenchonionsoup!
