kunga is asmalltibetan food join in the heart of the darjeeling market, next to ramada hotel. timings on zomato says 8 am to 9.30 pm. but the place takes the last order at 6.30 pm so please ensure u go before 6.30 pm. since we reached at 8.30 pm. the food is simply amazing! i think i have never had such tibetan food before, the poke momo’s were very flavourful and juicy, the thukpa, the noodles everything was very delicious. please note that the quantity is huge, a plate of mono serves 10 giant momo’s so be careful while ordering. and the price is extremely reasonable. the quality of food is very good too, i say this because i was the last person to leave the restaurant and even the people working were having the food cooked from the same kitchen !

i loved the food...their momos are so juicy and it will just melt in your mouth. the glass noodles was also quite good. however, the place is really verysmallfor the crowd they receive because of their popularity and so cleanliness, i feel is a bit of a problem. it feels a lot like a big shared table with so many strangers. but shamelessly, i will go and visit kunga again for their food.

we have been to kunga twice in one week, early this year. its asmalleating joint with hardly 20-22 seating capacity. so on weekends and days where there are more tourists in darjeeling, expect long queue if you are planning for lunch. plan accordingly. kunga dont take orders for parcel as well as there is no booking system as such. its first come first serve basis and hence sometimes there can be some chaos in waiting lines as well.

coming to food, on the first day we tried chicken cheese steam momo and mixed fried rice with vegetables. on the second day, we tried fried pork momo and mixed wai wai soup. honestly we were sort of disappointed with our food on the first day, especially imho, we have had better momos in many places. however, fried pork momo and wai wai soup were good. we missed one iconic dish which we have seen many people ordering that is - noodles.

finally one suggestion for kunga management as well as all tourists visiting there. the momo sauce may taste a little sour. we just added a little ketchup with the momo sauce and it tasted awesome. you should try that out 👍🏼

after reading alot about this place, visited this place this weekend.

honest opinion is,this is not worth the hype.

all items were quite overpriced. also the seating area issmall, given such times this is not adequate.

we got their chicken steam momos, 10 pcs for rs 250. the texture is also not that good.

if you want to have pure tibetan foods or good pork items like chilli pork, pork phing (glass noodles)then this is the best place to visit.. undoubtedly bestsmallsize restaurant in darjeeling with authentic tasty oriental delicacies.

one important point - shop timing 10am to 6 pm
(zomato showing wrong timing)

kunga is definitely a hidden gem of darjeeling. if you love to taste authentic tibetan foods, then this place will never disappoint you.
✴️ location : thissmallrestaurant is located on the way to ramada from keventer's just beside the taxi stand.
✴️ ambiance : the dining of the place is quitesmallbut well arranged. hygiene is properly maintained. if you are group of two, you may have to share the table with others because of the huge rush.

✴️foods : we have ordered for main course only,
☑️ chicken fried rice
☑️ pork chilly

the foods are being served within 10 to 15 minutes. both the dishes tasted superb. chicken fried rice was the best fried rice i have ever tasted in my life. it was full of veggies and chicken along with a delicious flavour. pork chilly tasted finger licking good. it was spicy, tangy and yummy. the quantity was enough for sharing between two people. quality was good enough.
✴️ service : they serve foods very prompt. the lady who was serving treated us with a big smile 😊. they serve a notepad for taking the orders and you have to write down what you are ordering for. they only take cash payment. prices are comparatively low than the other renowned restaurants in darjeeling.

so, if you are in darjeeling and you love to explore your taste buds , then you should definitely try out this budget friendlysmallrestaurant.

it is asmallplace serving authentic and tasty tibetan cuisine. because is it so small, expect a crowd waiting outside the gates.
but the service inside is fast and very friendly staff. i ordered chicken glassy noodles, mixed thukpa and beef momo. all of the dishes were spectacular.
also, must try the lemon tea with honey, it's superb.

an absolute delicacy at the heart of darjeeling serving the best dishes at an extremely affordable price. the restaurant specialises in tibetian cuisines.

ambience: asmallplace with a seating capacity of 10-15 people. minimally decorated and polite staffs compliment the smooth service at the place. the owner is also good.

the food we tried-
pork steamed momo:
10 pieces of large sized momos were given in a plate. the momos were filled with ample amount of meat and tasted great. the best steamed momo i ever had. soup wasn't provided with it. a must try tibetian delicacy.
thukpa:
the mix thukpa had all types of meat in it and sufficient amount of noodles with a really tasty and healthy soup. the quantity of a plate is sufficient for 3 people. it was delicious in taste as well.

altogether a great food joint in darjeeling. a must visit for everyone. but one thing should be kept in mind that you might have to wait for 30mins to get a table in rush hours.

happy fooding!!

this place serves authentic and delicious tibetan cuisine at a very affordable price range. momo, thukpa, soup, wonton, noodles, meifoon are very palatable and refreshing in the cold and chilly weather. there are various chicken and fish dishes which are very tasty and some of them contain veggies also. ambience is good and friendly. though the seating area issmalland the place attracts quite a crowd, service is pretty fast. most probably, this place is owned and run by a tibetan family. a must visit place. definitely recommended.
