kunga is a small tibetan food join in the heart of the darjeeling market, next to ramada hotel. timings on zomato says 8 am to 9.30 pm. but the place takes the last order at 6.30 pm so please ensure u go before 6.30 pm. since we reached at 8.30 pm. the food is simply amazing! i think i have never had such tibetan food before, the poke momo’s were very flavourful and juicy, the thukpa, the noodles everything was very delicious. please note that the quantity is huge, a plate of mono serves 10 giant momo’s so be careful while ordering. and the price is extremely reasonable. the quality of food is very good too, i say this because i was the last person to leave the restaurant and even the people working were having the food cooked from the same kitchen !

had chicken momos steamed. i would not say it was extra ordinary. i have had better tasting momos in the past. seating for maximum 12-15 people. otherwise its fine.

i loved the food...their momos are so juicy and it will just melt in your mouth. the glass noodles was also quite good. however, the place is really very small for the crowd they receive because of their popularity and so cleanliness, i feel is a bit of a problem. it feels a lot like a big shared table with so many strangers. but shamelessly, i will go and visit kunga again for their food.

right in the heart of darjeeling is this awesome tiberian restaurant. the food is amazing and the service even more so.
i had cheese steamed momos in which the cheese had melted. the sauce with the momos was at a different level.
being right in the middle of darjeeling, the place is slightly noisy
food 5/5
service 5/5
ambience 4/5

outstanding tibetan food!!
it only 3-4 years ago that i got initiated into tibetan food. and oh boy! am i in love with it or what!! i absolutely regret having wasted 2 decades of my life not having ever eaten tibetan food, such is my love for the cuisine now.
when in darjeeling, i dropped by kunga, the ambience isn't much to talk about since it's as basic as it can get. but the good food surely makes up for it.
we ordered a variety of tibetan dishes and loved almost all of what we called for.
personally i loved the shapalay, shapta with tingmo, the momos, esp. the fried ones, the thukpa, the thenthuk, et al.
definitely dropping by again, whenever in darjeeling.

we went to kunga 3 days back after 2 yrs... honestly their taste of food has detoriated and their behavior towards customer is pathetic.. they straight away tell their customers to get out of the restaurant, they dont bother to clean table, provide water.... they do not think tourist as human and they forget that coz of us they survive...

we had heard about kunga in one of the vlogs..it has 4 tables and is about the size of a kitchen.
but if you are a foodie and can ignore these, the pork momo was divine and the thenthuk full of flavour... prices might seem high given the hole in the wall...but portions are huge so it's actually quite reasonable...bear this in mind while ordering

i visited this place on my trip to darjeeling. we were eager to try out some great places for momos. try their chicken momos. they were nice, not great though. do not visit if you are a pure veg since they cook pork, chicken in the same utensils.

this is the first time we visited darjeeling. checked in zomato about famous food chains here as we are foodies. found kunga and we were waiting to eat here since a week but because of long queue, could not wait for an hour.

today we decided to have our lunch at kunga. we reached there and again found a long queue, waiting of almost an hour so we decided to check with owner if they allow us the parcel facility. luckily he agreed to pack us some food. as our hotel is near by, we decided to have our kunga lunch there.

as we are pure vegetarians, we ordered veg cheese momos, veg choupsey and veg thenthuk. unfortunately, we got couple of meat pieces in thenthuk. our mind blocked as we are pure veg people and finding meat pieces in food completely blocked our mind.

place could be very good for non-vegetarians but i strongly not suggest this place to veg people.

restaurant should prepare veg food in different utensils. we are fond of tibetan food but from now on we will think twice to eat in such restaurants.

food was amazing. the mixed thenthuk soup was true to its origins in the subtlety and aroma. the steamed pork momos were cooked to perfection, they were really tender and succulent. the chilli pork was the less spicy, would’ve ideally preferred a spicier preparation for this dish. the lemon honey tea put a perfect end to this wholesome meal.

on the table: pork momos, chicken momos, egg chowmein, chicken phing (glass noodles) noodles.

the ambience is great with a bustling crowd and you might have to wait for your turn to sit on the table as their tables are mostly occupied.

the store timing is 10.30 am to 6pm. please don't go by the zomato timings otherwise you'll miss out on eating in this amazing outlet.

chicken phing noodles was really tasty. glass noodles as the name suggests. the noodles are thin and transparent, quiet different from your regular noodles. it was simple with no hard-core masala and yet bery tasty. a must try on their menu from my side.

egg chowmein was filled with lots of scrambled eggs and their in-house handmade noodles were really fresh.

pork momos and chicken momos are the best momos which i have ever tasted in my life. both are very juicy and succulent. with every bite, your mouth gets filled with its juicy and the meat portion in each dumpling is much more than a typical momo. you won't taste any onions pieces in your mouth. it will all be a meaty bite for you. this is the must try on their menu.

fried beef momos are crisp on outside and juicy inside. as its beef, the meat is not chewy but well spiced and light. a must try.

beef chilly is made in traditional way with tomatoes, onions and chillies. very light on palatte and not at all spicy. they use the shredded beef and it's really good.

their portion size is huge so consult with the staff before you place an order for the group.
