we had heard about kunga in one of the vlogs..it has 4 tables and is about the size of a kitchen.
but if you are a foodie and can ignore these, theporkmomo was divine and the thenthuk full of flavour... prices might seem high given the hole in the wall...but portions are huge so it's actually quite reasonable...bear this in mind while ordering

food was amazing. the mixed thenthuk soup was true to its origins in the subtlety and aroma. the steamedporkmomos were cooked to perfection, they were really tender and succulent. the chilliporkwas the less spicy, would’ve ideally preferred a spicier preparation for this dish. the lemon honey tea put a perfect end to this wholesome meal.

on the table:porkmomos, chicken momos, egg chowmein, chicken phing (glass noodles) noodles.

the ambience is great with a bustling crowd and you might have to wait for your turn to sit on the table as their tables are mostly occupied.

the store timing is 10.30 am to 6pm. please don't go by the zomato timings otherwise you'll miss out on eating in this amazing outlet.

chicken phing noodles was really tasty. glass noodles as the name suggests. the noodles are thin and transparent, quiet different from your regular noodles. it was simple with no hard-core masala and yet bery tasty. a must try on their menu from my side.

egg chowmein was filled with lots of scrambled eggs and their in-house handmade noodles were really fresh.

pork momos and chicken momos are the best momos which i have ever tasted in my life. both are very juicy and succulent. with every bite, your mouth gets filled with its juicy and the meat portion in each dumpling is much more than a typical momo. you won't taste any onions pieces in your mouth. it will all be a meaty bite for you. this is the must try on their menu.

fried beef momos are crisp on outside and juicy inside. as its beef, the meat is not chewy but well spiced and light. a must try.

beef chilly is made in traditional way with tomatoes, onions and chillies. very light on palatte and not at all spicy. they use the shredded beef and it's really good.

their portion size is huge so consult with the staff before you place an order for the group.

a place that i was waiting to visit since long. had the chance this time and tried chiliporkwith mixed fried rice and fresh lime soda. 1plate is enough for two people. it cost us around 600 and it's really cheap out there. the food tastes too good. a must visit for every non-vegetarian and meat-lover. since the restaurant is not a big one, in festival season, you might have to wait outside the restaurant for hours but can assure that the wait is worthy enough.

don't leave darjeeling without having the chicken/porknoodle soup under the thukpa section. if you go to kunga, you should definitely try this else you will miss out a very important cuisine. it was soooo good. both quantity and taste wise. even 5* seems less for this.

you may have read about this place in many articles and seen a lot of videos on this place. let me start with that this place worth a visit. kunga is one of the most popular and authentic place to try in darjeeling.

but its better to know a few things before visiting them. due to their popularity they get a lot of crowd in seasons and its extremely hard to get a table. if you're unlucky like me they might get out of stock and you might need to visit next day. also keep it in mind that they serveporkand beef both.

whatever it is, don't forgot to try below two popular dishes.

pork momos @ rs.250 (4.5/5)
------------------------------------------------------
simply one of the best momos i ever had. 10 big pieces on a plate, momos felt so juicy after a bite and the thin layers with minced meat inside felt incredible. it taste delicious and their is simply no word to explain it.

mix phin noodles soup @ rs.260 (4/5)
------------------------------------------------------------------
speciality of kunga restaurant, it was soupy noodles made out of glass noodles. i must say it tasted completely different. extremely lite, mild flavours lots of veggies and shreaded meat, a perfect meal.

i've also tried their fried rice and chicken main course but that wasn't worth mentioning.

many people say their portions are huge but it's not true. now the portion is adequate for one person but surely not for two. pricing is bit on the higher side due to their popularity.

if standing in long queue in peak hours isn't a problem for you then this place is worth a try. but one problem still lies is they don't accept any kind of digital payment, so keep few thousands ready in your pocket while visiting this place.

bunch of unprofessional people don't have any manner, very adamant and rude. even for a plate of momos you have to wait for 1 hour . and they make beef momo ,pork& chicken momo in the same utensils. big not this restaurant.

we have been to kunga twice in one week, early this year. its a small eating joint with hardly 20-22 seating capacity. so on weekends and days where there are more tourists in darjeeling, expect long queue if you are planning for lunch. plan accordingly. kunga dont take orders for parcel as well as there is no booking system as such. its first come first serve basis and hence sometimes there can be some chaos in waiting lines as well.

coming to food, on the first day we tried chicken cheese steam momo and mixed fried rice with vegetables. on the second day, we tried friedporkmomo and mixed wai wai soup. honestly we were sort of disappointed with our food on the first day, especially imho, we have had better momos in many places. however, friedporkmomo and wai wai soup were good. we missed one iconic dish which we have seen many people ordering that is - noodles.

finally one suggestion for kunga management as well as all tourists visiting there. the momo sauce may taste a little sour. we just added a little ketchup with the momo sauce and it tasted awesome. you should try that out 👍🏼

kunga is definitely a hidden gem of darjeeling. if you love to taste authentic tibetan foods, then this place will never disappoint you.
✴️ location : this small restaurant is located on the way to ramada from keventer's just beside the taxi stand.
✴️ ambiance : the dining of the place is quite small but well arranged. hygiene is properly maintained. if you are group of two, you may have to share the table with others because of the huge rush.

✴️foods : we have ordered for main course only,
☑️ chicken fried rice
☑️porkchilly

the foods are being served within 10 to 15 minutes. both the dishes tasted superb. chicken fried rice was the best fried rice i have ever tasted in my life. it was full of veggies and chicken along with a delicious flavour.porkchilly tasted finger licking good. it was spicy, tangy and yummy. the quantity was enough for sharing between two people. quality was good enough.
✴️ service : they serve foods very prompt. the lady who was serving treated us with a big smile 😊. they serve a notepad for taking the orders and you have to write down what you are ordering for. they only take cash payment. prices are comparatively low than the other renowned restaurants in darjeeling.

so, if you are in darjeeling and you love to explore your taste buds , then you should definitely try out this budget friendly small restaurant.

i went to this place after hearing a lot of hype. we had ordered friedporkwai wai and chicken cheese momo. i felt the wai wai wasn't fried enough rather it had more gravy. also coming to the chicken cheese momos they were really tasty but i found hair inside the momos. a big turnoff. i had a lot of expectations from this place but alas it wasn't a good experience.
