i loved the food...theirmomosare so juicy and it will just melt in your mouth. the glass noodles was also quite good. however, the place is really very small for the crowd they receive because of their popularity and so cleanliness, i feel is a bit of a problem. it feels a lot like a big shared table with so many strangers. but shamelessly, i will go and visit kunga again for their food.

food was amazing. the mixed thenthuk soup was true to its origins in the subtlety and aroma. the steamed porkmomoswere cooked to perfection, they were really tender and succulent. the chilli pork was the less spicy, would’ve ideally preferred a spicier preparation for this dish. the lemon honey tea put a perfect end to this wholesome meal.

on the table: pork momos, chicken momos, egg chowmein, chicken phing (glass noodles) noodles.

the ambience is great with a bustling crowd and you might have to wait for your turn to sit on the table as their tables are mostly occupied.

the store timing is 10.30 am to 6pm. please don't go by the zomato timings otherwise you'll miss out on eating in this amazing outlet.

chicken phing noodles was really tasty. glass noodles as the name suggests. the noodles are thin and transparent, quiet different from your regular noodles. it was simple with no hard-core masala and yet bery tasty. a must try on their menu from my side.

egg chowmein was filled with lots of scrambled eggs and their in-house handmade noodles were really fresh.

porkmomosand chickenmomosare the bestmomoswhich i have ever tasted in my life. both are very juicy and succulent. with every bite, your mouth gets filled with its juicy and the meat portion in each dumpling is much more than a typical momo. you won't taste any onions pieces in your mouth. it will all be a meaty bite for you. this is the must try on their menu.

fried beefmomosare crisp on outside and juicy inside. as its beef, the meat is not chewy but well spiced and light. a must try.

beef chilly is made in traditional way with tomatoes, onions and chillies. very light on palatte and not at all spicy. they use the shredded beef and it's really good.

their portion size is huge so consult with the staff before you place an order for the group.

you may have read about this place in many articles and seen a lot of videos on this place. let me start with that this place worth a visit. kunga is one of the most popular and authentic place to try in darjeeling.

but its better to know a few things before visiting them. due to their popularity they get a lot of crowd in seasons and its extremely hard to get a table. if you're unlucky like me they might get out of stock and you might need to visit next day. also keep it in mind that they serve pork and beef both.

whatever it is, don't forgot to try below two popular dishes.

porkmomos@ rs.250 (4.5/5)
------------------------------------------------------
simply one of the bestmomosi ever had. 10 big pieces on a plate, momosfelt so juicy after a bite and the thin layers with minced meat inside felt incredible. it taste delicious and their is simply no word to explain it.

mix phin noodles soup @ rs.260 (4/5)
------------------------------------------------------------------
speciality of kunga restaurant, it was soupy noodles made out of glass noodles. i must say it tasted completely different. extremely lite, mild flavours lots of veggies and shreaded meat, a perfect meal.

i've also tried their fried rice and chicken main course but that wasn't worth mentioning.

many people say their portions are huge but it's not true. now the portion is adequate for one person but surely not for two. pricing is bit on the higher side due to their popularity.

if standing in long queue in peak hours isn't a problem for you then this place is worth a try. but one problem still lies is they don't accept any kind of digital payment, so keep few thousands ready in your pocket while visiting this place.

we have been to kunga twice in one week, early this year. its a small eating joint with hardly 20-22 seating capacity. so on weekends and days where there are more tourists in darjeeling, expect long queue if you are planning for lunch. plan accordingly. kunga dont take orders for parcel as well as there is no booking system as such. its first come first serve basis and hence sometimes there can be some chaos in waiting lines as well.

coming to food, on the first day we tried chicken cheese steam momo and mixed fried rice with vegetables. on the second day, we tried fried pork momo and mixed wai wai soup. honestly we were sort of disappointed with our food on the first day, especially imho, we have had bettermomosin many places. however, fried pork momo and wai wai soup were good. we missed one iconic dish which we have seen many people ordering that is - noodles.

finally one suggestion for kunga management as well as all tourists visiting there. the momo sauce may taste a little sour. we just added a little ketchup with the momo sauce and it tasted awesome. you should try that out 👍🏼

during our trip to darjeeling, i asked our guide about a local eatery where we can have lunch & taste the popular local foods & got to know about this place.
this tiny restaurant named kunga is truly a hidden gem. if you are a fan of tibetan flavours like me, it's a must visit place..
the location is very near to ramada hotel at mall road..
we opted for:
chicken phing ( glass noodles ) with lots of veggies like carrot, simrai ( local leafy vegetable )
best to have with sweet & sour chicken.
also, we had chicken cheese steamedmomoswithout wich our trip wouldn't be completed.
the portion amount is good enough for 2 people. also, the staffs behaviour is very homely. a must visit place.

the best part of kunga is theirmomosand thukpa. there are just awesome, there is no room for any complain. good portion, value for money and good taste is what kunga represents. the behavior of the staffs should also be appreciated, they serve a huge number of customers daily, tirelessly.

one thing that i really missed was their tibetan tea, heard a lot about this from my friends who visited earlier. seems like they have discontinued this item. i would love to taste this sometime in future.

a little overpriced for sure, but the food is fresh with the best tastingmomosin all of darjeeling. the seating needs to improve, extremely small and always overcrowded.
