we have been to kunga twice in one week, early this year. its a small eating joint with hardly 20-22 seating capacity. so on weekends and days where there are more tourists in darjeeling, expect long queue if you are planning for lunch. plan accordingly. kunga dont take orders for parcel as well as there is no booking system as such. its first come first serve basis and hence sometimes there can be some chaos in waiting lines as well.

coming to food, on the first day we tried chicken cheese steam momo and mixed fried rice with vegetables. on the second day, we tried fried pork momo and mixed wai wai soup. honestly we were sort of disappointed with our food on the first day, especially imho, we have had better momos in many places. however, fried pork momo and wai wai soup were good. we missed one iconic dish which we have seen many people ordering that is - noodles.

finally one suggestion for kunga management as well as all tourists visiting there. the momo sauce may taste a little sour. we just added a little ketchup with the momo sauce and it tasted awesome. you should try that out 👍🏼

excellent momos! stuffed with chicken and juicy to the core! but one needs to be lucky enough to have a chance to dine without standing at the queue

during our trip to darjeeling, i asked our guide about a local eatery where we can have lunch & taste the popular local foods & got to know about this place.
this tiny restaurant named kunga is truly a hidden gem. if you are a fan of tibetan flavours like me, it's a must visit place..
the location is very near to ramada hotel at mall road..
we opted for:
chicken phing ( glass noodles ) with lots of veggies like carrot, simrai ( local leafy vegetable )
best to have with sweet & sour chicken.
also, we had chicken cheese steamed momos without wich our trip wouldn't be completed.
the portion amount is good enough for 2 people. also, the staffs behaviour is very homely. a must visit place.

the best part of kunga is their momos and thukpa. there are just awesome, there is no room for any complain. good portion, value for money and good taste is what kunga represents. the behavior of the staffs should also be appreciated, they serve a huge number of customers daily, tirelessly.

one thing that i really missed was their tibetan tea, heard a lot about this from my friends who visited earlier. seems like they have discontinued this item. i would love to taste this sometime in future.

after reading alot about this place, visited this place this weekend.

honest opinion is,this is not worth the hype.

all items were quite overpriced. also the seating area is small ,given such times this is not adequate.

we got their chicken steam momos, 10 pcs for rs 250. the texture is also not that good.

if you want to have pure tibetan foods or good pork items like chilli pork, pork phing (glass noodles)then this is the best place to visit.. undoubtedly best small size restaurant in darjeeling with authentic tasty oriental delicacies.

one important point - shop timing 10am to 6 pm
(zomato showing wrong timing)

the best momos i have ever tasted! the waiting line is long because it is one of the most sought after places in darjeeling. their momos are extremely delicious, be it chicken or pork! their thukpa is also very filling and delicious. the prices are very reasonable and quality as well as quantity is excellent! definitely recommended!

kunga was quite a disappointment, considering that i had read so much about the place on various travel advisories. i have had tibetan cuisine, at several places in the past such as in dehradun, mcleodganj and in parts of delhi. at kunga though, it was terribly bland. too much of starch and flour, constituted much of the food. i must say, that the staff here was really polite, and that is something i appreciate. the portions were also extremely filling. but food was tasteless. meat tasted, as if it hasn't been cooked properly. hope something is done about the same.

a little overpriced for sure, but the food is fresh with the best tasting momos in all of darjeeling. the seating needs to improve, extremely small and always overcrowded.

this place is too good to be true. the best place to have chinese and tibetan food under one roof. the aroma, the taste, the portion size, the quality is beyond words. do try out the wanton soup and the momos next time you visit kunga, i'm sure you wont be disappointed.

an awesome place to have authentic tibetan foods. they server very tasty foods.
only drawback of that place is the space inside this restaurant which is very limited. one need to wait for longer time to get seat.
