for #tourists in #udaipur
this place was the best part of my rajasthan trip and the only good recommendation given by my driver.
ambience: you are greeted with a simple miniature painting on the door. the place is simple with no interior decor but calm and clean.
food: they only serve unlimited thali for 220/- which includes daal, baati, gatte ki sabzi, besan shimla mirch, salad, papad, churma, achaar, chaas, lehsun ki chatni and hari chatni.
baatis are usually crispy outside but the baati served here is soft. they have made this change because many people prefer soft baatis. if you want crispier one you can ask for it. another good thing is that they do not dip baati in ghee so the person has liberty to have desired amount of ghee. (introduced for health conscious bunch)
lehsun ki chutni won my heart. i personally prefer this with dal chawal or daal baati and it was delightful to have it on my table. many restaurants do not serve this.
gatte ki sabzi: personally, i do not like gatte ki sabzi but my friend insisted to at least taste it and i ended up finishing it off. it tastes better when mixed with daal.
churma: many restaurants fool you by serving something made up of semolina which we call panjiri. but here you can rest assured. they sweeten it with jaggery which makes it more authentic. a new thing for me was sesame seed which enhanced the taste. there churma tastes different and you can get it packed too.
service: the way they serve, their restaurant should be named "satkar". half of the experience was improved by their service. they insist on eating by hands which is how baati should actually be eaten. you can even ask for recipe and they would be more than delighted to give you a kitchen tour.
another good thing is that the food is freshly made. they do not stock on things like churma which can be easily stored for days.
recommendation: please avoid salad and papad, they unnecessarily occupy space and deprive you of some extra bites of delicious baati or churma.
must visit.
