i'll probably be making hordes of enemies by stating this, but the truth remains that the continental spread at keventers is at the best, average.
now before you raise your pitchforks in protest, bear with me a bit.
no darjeeling trip is ever truly complete without a breakfast venture at keventers. that part is and will always remain true. so i followed the trend, during my first visit to the queen of the hills about a week back.
having done my research, i ordered the bare essentials: darjeeling grill platter (pork) & a steaming cup of hot chocolate.
pros?
1) quantity (my strategy to starve myself the night before worked)
2) perfect sunny ups
3) bang on with the hot chocolate. albeit it was a bit milo flavored, but it was not sickeningly sweet and that was a big green tick for me.
4) the view, with the open sky above your head!
cons?
1) service (dreadfully late compared to the food ordered. they are understaffed and with the place jammed full during morning hours, it's bit of a wrestle for them with the orders. a lot of the customers had this issue only. once the food arrived, they were quite content.)
2) the platter itself. save the lean pork which they served, the sausages, salamis & the bacon crisps were either too salty/oily/overdone/all of the above. this came across to me as extremely disappointing. specially since the review pictures looked so good & wholesome!
now this might be a one time experience. i'll be happy to be proved wrong. maybe it was the pressure, maybe it was my luck... i won't really know. but having had continental breakfast platters at so many places, this place couldn't even break into my top 5.
so there's that. but i'll be happy to return someday with an alternate experience. 😁
