karavalli - the gateway hotel

it was my husband’s birthday last month and we were looking for a place to chill and have a drink for dinner. unfortunately, it was election time, so we had very limited options. karavalli looked enticing and we made a beeline for it, looking at the pictures on zomato. 

ambience: the outdoorambienceis amazing and lit dimly with a water fountain in the middle and quaint tables around it, surrounded by greenery. considering it was a bit hot, we took a table inside. 

the internalambienceis okay and does not strike out off the ordinary. 

food: the food is quite expensive, considering the portions given. we ordered the fish fry (meen pollichatthu) as a starter, with rasam and a kokum drink. the fish & rasam were decent, however, i would not recommend the mocktail. 

for the main course, we had the allapuzha meen(traditional fish curry) curry and the kozhi malliperlan(chicken in coconut milk) with appams & steamed rice. the main course was definitely quite tasty. 

however, i cannot stress the fact enough that this place is quite pricey. i could get better food for much less. :) 

service: i think this was the highlight. our server was quite sweet and always helpful. he made the right suggestions and was always quite accommodating and cheerful. 

all in all, would i visit the place again? maybe not, as it would definitely burn a hole in my pocket.

greatambienceand not so great food. it is a royal experience taht you pay for! but then taste is not mind blowing. delayed service and cold food was served. but the place kept us engaged because you visit a star restaurant and sit in a old house !!! rather use the money to visit kerala and have authentic experience!!! 😐

so if your looking for something a little different withambience. they have managed to create a comfy outdoor seating to enjoy bangalore pleasant weather . a really friendly team at service front . our captain anthony knowing we are residents of banglore put then effort to make it a different experience with his suggestive selling . the food is authentic costal food varies from goan to coorg . so there is a variety . their lunch menu is different from what on line . so make so ask for the a la carte .
can get a lil busy but if your seated out you'll enjoy self .

great food!! honestly, i am not a big fan of this cuisine, but since my husband really likes it , we thought of giving it a shot on and were we pleased!! the food was just amazing...finger licking good...theambiencewas good and to top it all the servers were very kind and nice and helpful...a special mention to both binoth and binit for their excellent service...i am really happy with the experience, so happy that we plan to visit again tonight...which would make this twice in a week!! great job!!

karavalli is a beautiful restaurant in terms ofambience, food , quality and service. as soon as we enter this place we have a wow factor on our mind in terms of ambience. beautifully done interiors and exteriors. moving onto the food, it’s one of the best in bangalore. mr.naren thimmiah and team are doing a great job in terms of taste, quality and presentation. loved all the dishes whatever we ordered for.

it was an amazing evening....no words to describe the food and hospitality......the seafood is amazing...have to try the prawns delicacies....yummy....

very limited options for vegetarian.catamaram thali is just not yeh authentic one. too sweet mangalore gassi. food is not that great for vegetarian. niceambience,friendly staff. not the value for money u pay for the veg thali

i had mixed feeling before going for this place. but i was happy to choose this place for my special occasion dinner. theambienceis good, you have open as well as closed dinning area. i went there on weekday so there was not much rush, but if you are going on weekends then a reservation is a must here.

the servers here will help you with the order and portions. we tried prawns ghee roast in the starters, which was the show stopper for us. only thing which worried me was the price for the given portion of prawns.

if you dont like/eat prawns, then you can go for attirachy ularthu which is a lamb dish. it was cooked very beautifully. the lamb pieces were melting in the mouth.

we also order, meen eliettad which was black pomfret steak. it was okay and few bones were present

in the main course, we ordered prawn biryani. this biryani was delicious and portion size was enough for two people. the sour raitha was complimenting it nicely.

in the dessert, we tried chiroti - flaky bread with almond milk. it was loved and ended our meal on a happy note.

our overall dinner experience was good here and you can visit this place if you are looking for some delicious kerala cuisine.

karavalli is a restaurant that serves you authentic and best of south indian coastal food. it also has some good options for vegetarians as well. theambienceis worth the sitting, staff is very professional and courteous, and the food delicious. but the only thing that kills all the fun and spirit in dining at the place is it's slow service and food preparation time. but it's definitely worth a visit !

while the food is good andambienceis great, they fail to make up for the lacking standards in service. i'm not sure if it was a one off instance or this is how it always is, our experience was not at all what you would expect from a place like this. the staff was grudgingly courteous, and failed to meet even the most basic hospitality standards.

had gone to this place with my family for onam sadhya and had a nice time out there. while the food was good, we felt the service could have been better. few of the items like the sweet and the pickles were missed out on being served to most of the tables. overall a niceambiencend a nice fine dining places that i have been to.

karavalli a beautiful place set amidst the hustle bustle of bengaluru. the calm, serene atmosphere andambiencelet's you forget the city around. a seat by the fountain, and the efforts of the staff are commendable. special thanks to uday for making our evening memorable. and loved the delicious food prepared by chef ramachander. overall had an amazing experience.

went here for weekend lunch. theambienceis cozy and staff are courteous. i ordered a seafood thali and mutton curry. well the thali was nothing exceptional. on a better price can get much more items in any other sea food thali place.
the staff told the thali was not be shared but then he got us extra parathas for the mutton curry which was really kind. the taste was like okay not so great for me. i barely touched the veg items of the thali.
it's a one time place, that's also if you want ambience.
a couple more additions to thali would probably make it worth it.
