coconut macadamia nut shrimp to die for. anyone driving along oahu's northshorehas plenty of options for eating shrimp. guidebooks debate the relative merits of all the different shrimp trucks that sit along the highway. after stopping at a couple of the trucks and checking out their menus, we ended up a kahuku grill, a small little sit down restaurant in kahuku. were we ever glad we did! the service was friendly, the prices were reasonable, and--most important--the food was fantastic.
more specifically, kahuku grill's coconut-macadamia nut shrimp was the best coconut shrimp we'd ever had. we all agreed. it was delicious. the rest of the meal was equally good. even the rice here was excellent.
the only negative worth mentioning occurred at one of the outdoor tables farthest from restaurant. as we waited for our food to be prepared, we occasionally detected the faint smell of rotting garbage wafting through the air. not cool. after the second time, we changed tables and this was no longer an issue. (even so, kahuku grill, you would do well to resolve this issue.)
all in all, this was one of the most enjoyable meals we experienced during our time on the islands and definitely one of the best values. i highly recommend kahuku grill to anyone out exploring oahu's north shore.
