geat food sub par service.joneshas a very clever menu serving old school diner food in a more proper modern way. everyone at our table was very pleased with their entree. i had tender beef potatoes and carrots. the beef was done perfectly in a flavorful demi glaze sauce. the herbed potatoes were a combination of baby gold and peruvian purples. the were done and seasoned perfectly. the carrots had what tasted like a maple glaze and were done properly. i had what they called duncan hines chocolate layer cake for dessert and that is exactly what it tasted like. i won't make that mistake again.

the service is a whole other matter. we never got our bread till after we all finished our dinner. my wife never got the coffee she ordered. also my wife's entree was not served with everyone else. we had to get the attention of another server to get it it delivered. in fact no fewer than 3 different servers waited on us at various times. this must lead to confusion. the food was so good i will give them another shot. perhaps the wait staff was having a bad day.

as far as the decor it is right out of the 1970's and is tacky cool.

i love this place!. the first thing you'll probably notice is the atmosphere when you walk in the door.jonesis full of it. this is a excellent restaurant downtown in central philly on the corner of chestnut and s.

jones consists of a large dining room that is on the left of the front door when you enter. straight ahead is the bar and there's another smaller dining area upstairs.

the food? it's really good food! they serve quick meals like soups and sandwiches or larger entrees like crab cakes, chili, pasta's, etc. the menu is very well rounded and even the most finicky person should be able to find something they like. they also serve brunch on sundays.

like many other places downtown you need to watch the mixed drinks here as they can skyrocket your bill quickly. howeverjonesdoes not serve a weak drink in my experiences there.

jones has a great friendly staff and i have always received great customer service during my visits. it's refreshing to visit a establishment and run into the same wait staff time and time again. they must be taking care of their employee's and it shows in they level of service provided.

give them a try if you're downtown. it's about 2 blocks from the liberty bell.

the only reason i was atjoneswas because i woke up late and morimoto had closed for lunch. i was not expecting much. a friend of a friend always dined here but i couldn’t understand why. to my surprise, the food here is really good. the decor is a throwback to the 70’s and the food is too. there is an all day menu of hearty american fare.

perfect for preshow meal. we went tojonesbefore heading to the walnut street theater to see mary poppins. the alt sandwich was absolutely delicious! my mom had a chicken sandwich, my sister built her own salad and my niece had calamari and french fries. it was very busy, so it was a little loud, but there were plenty of menu choices, and the desserts looked fantastic too! can't wait to go back!

i think the fact thatjonesoffered a late night happy hour kind of slipped my mind, actually, but when i remembered, it was game time!jonescafe is rock n' roll meets italian food meets hollywood. i used to go tojonesfor dates, meeting up with friends or just to grab a late night drink. the place is usually pretty packed and the same bartenders have been working there for years.the staff just oozes cool. it's dark inside, the booths have checkerboard tablecloths and the bar-side booths even have wire drapes - more for effect, i believe. the cafe part is adjacent to the bar, but i never seem to make it over there.

nice family restaurant.jonesrestaurant is a great place to take families for a prompt lunch if you're in downtown philly. we were there for lunch on a saturday and the seating was prompt. the waitress was also reasonably attentive. the matzo soup and cobb salad were well prepared, and the grilled cheese sandwich was really good. a cheerful concurrent birthday celebration was going on at the time - lending a friendly community feel to the place - quite in keeping with its location about 1 block west of independence national park, at 700 chestnut. and the nice artwork and very high ceilings gave a cheerful and memorable feel to the place. furthermore, the cost for two for lunch including nonalcoholic beverages and the tip was moderate - at about $40.00.

diverse menu, good food. this is not your run of the mill restaurant.joneshas a very diverse menu of classic comfort foods and other popular dishes. there is no way anyone could not find something on the menu to order, and would likely have a difficult time deciding on a single entrée. i went with the chicken pot pie. my last pot pie has been many, many meals ago. i also ordered a potato pancake appetizer to share and a caesar salad.

the salad was excellent. the dressing was creamy goodness and the focaccia croutons wonderful. the potato pancakes were nicely cooked but a little bland, fixed by the side of applesauce. the appearance of the pot pie was so amazing i didn't want to touch it, but i did. the crust was very flaky. the insides were not exceptional, but still good. there was plenty of food and it had the usual peas and carrots and squares of chicken. it was not as salty as i remember those little frozen pot pies from my youth.

service was average, some waiting but not too much. one person with me ordered a steak that was so undercooked he sent it back. they fixed it but not too quickly. overall, it was a good and filling dinner.

comfort food. i was visiting philly and went tojoneswith a group of co-workers.jonesdefinitely wasn't what i was expecting in center city philly. mac & cheese? meatloaf? all in a trendy, hip restaurant wrapper?

even tho unexpected, it was very good -- it will become a regular stop when i'm in the area.

you better be a bold person if you're walking intojonesbecause its the type of place that will knock you on your ass and i'm not talking about the cocktails. a cool wave of darkness will surround the booth in which you sit while you stare up at a wall above the bar that is full of magnum bottles of untouched jack daniels. do you know what that means? it means, sit down, shut up, and don't fuck withjonesbecause hes been around the block and back and knows what's up. in fact, jonesbold atmosphere kinda makes me feel like 10% more of a pussy than i really am. it's the type of place whose front door tells a youngin like myself that there is a lot to learn before you can walk in here and appreciate me. and for that reason, i feel like i am not worthy ofjonesyet and sure as hell cant claim it. but i look forward to building a long term relationship with the place so that one day i can …be

jonesin' for jones. yes - it's another steven starr eatery - but it is pretty darn good!
ok - jones' take on food is this. grab the stuff mom used to make at home or anything you'd find at a diner and style it up a little. you can't put a silk hat on a pig - but you can take mac & cheese and make it delicious!!
myjonesfavs are the tuna tacos which has the greatest "taco sauce" on the side (a mexican mayo if you will) and the seared seasame tuna steak with coconut rice (which i crave all the time). both are very much worth tempting your mouth with!
the music is catchy but not to loud. the setting is pretty comfortable as well.
here's a hint - if you are looking for a good drink, grab one just a few doors down at las vegas lounge!!
to wind this up - i love jones!!
