i love this place!. the first thing you'll probably notice is theatmospherewhen you walk in the door. jones is full of it. this is a excellent restaurant downtown in central philly on the corner of chestnut and s.

jones consists of a large dining room that is on the left of the front door when you enter. straight ahead is the bar and there's another smaller dining area upstairs.

the food? it's really good food! they serve quick meals like soups and sandwiches or larger entrees like crab cakes, chili, pasta's, etc. the menu is very well rounded and even the most finicky person should be able to find something they like. they also serve brunch on sundays.

like many other places downtown you need to watch the mixed drinks here as they can skyrocket your bill quickly. however jones does not serve a weak drink in my experiences there.

jones has a great friendly staff and i have always received great customer service during my visits. it's refreshing to visit a establishment and run into the same wait staff time and time again. they must be taking care of their employee's and it shows in they level of service provided.

give them a try if you're downtown. it's about 2 blocks from the liberty bell.

the drinks were okay, drinkable but not great. hummus was good.atmospherewas weird. i get the retro theme but a shag rug in a bar/restaurant to me just seams disgustingly dirty.

what isn't to love about jones? my girlfriend and i strolled in on our first night in la, very late in the evening but found nothing less than exceptional here. gluten friendly options, one of the best spaghetti and meatball serves (second only to my mothers recipe of course), staff who were incredible and anatmosphereany establishment would kill for. when i visit west hollywood again, this will be on the list for sure!

came during their busy lunch hour, but didn't have to wait long at all for a table. theatmosphereis very cool and laid back--i loved the shag carpets! food was good, although nothing exceptional. i had a chicken sandwich with roasted peppers, mozzarella and pesto. my friend got french toast and was disappointed in the size of it (1 slice) for the price.

the seared tuna tacos were really good. the price was a little too high but the service andatmospheremade up for it.

you better be a bold person if you're walking into jones because its the type of place that will knock you on your ass and i'm not talking about the cocktails. a cool wave of darkness will surround the booth in which you sit while you stare up at a wall above the bar that is full of magnum bottles of untouched jack daniels. do you know what that means? it means, sit down, shut up, and don't fuck with jones because hes been around the block and back and knows what's up. in fact, jones boldatmospherekinda makes me feel like 10% more of a pussy than i really am. it's the type of place whose front door tells a youngin like myself that there is a lot to learn before you can walk in here and appreciate me. and for that reason, i feel like i am not worthy of jones yet and sure as hell cant claim it. but i look forward to building a long term relationship with the place so that one day i can …be

not my favorite stephen starr restaurant. after our show at the society hill play house we walked a few blocks to "jones." i am a big fan of stephen starr restaurants so i was anxious to try "jones." our party of 4 arrived at the restaurant at 4:30 pm and was surprised the bar was open but the restaurant was closed until 5pm. the hostess offered us a table anyway and we brought our bar drinks to our table. (so pleased she accomodated us!). my lemon drop martini was right on! (buddakhan makes them the best and this was as good as buddakhan!).
our half hour wait for the restaurant kitchen to open went fast as we sipped our drinks and enjoyed our friend's visit from north jersey. everything on the menu sounded sooo good ...it was hard to narrow down our choices...but i ordered the potatoe latkes as my first course and the calamari salad as my main dish. (they do this so well at the "contential restaurant"). my husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich, our friends ordered the chicken pot pie and the other friend ordered the chicken avacado sandwich and salad. they all split an order of calamari and an order of potato latkes.
here is the outcome...potatoe latkes were very good! three latkes were served on a plate with sour cream and apple sauce...was a nice portion. the calamari was a bit dried out. being the first in the restaurant i thought they tasted re-heated from the day before. my calamari salad was also a bit dried out and the dressing was not great...a bit spicy for a salad dressing. my friend said the chicken pot pie was too spicy and same with the pulled pork. the spices over powered the food.
i was more disapointed than pleased with this dining experience. i hold stephen starr restaurants to a higher standard and this was a let down. prices are very reasonable, staff is very good,atmosphereis very nice, but food and quality was not there this time.
i do plan to give it another try but i will not recommend this restaurant until i try it again and i see how that goes.

jones is a one-of-a-kind-shag-rug-brady-bunch style restaurant with good food and great service. theatmosphereis cool and jones knows it. take a look at the futuristic lights or the superbly clean bathrooms. enjoy your one on one or group meal in a super rad environment. it's awesome.
