had thechickenparmesan for dinner here, nothing special at all. there was no seasonings and the sauce tasted like it was poured from the can, straight onto the chicken. adult old fashioned milk shake was delicious and never had anything like it before but the food definitely a let down here. our waitress gave us horrible service, very snotty. there's plenty of great eats around philly, dont waste your time on here. these reviews must be from the tipsy customers at the bar who ordered food...

came during their busy lunch hour, but didn't have to wait long at all for a table. the atmosphere is very cool and laid back--i loved the shag carpets! food was good, although nothing exceptional. i had achickensandwich with roasted peppers, mozzarella and pesto. my friend got french toast and was disappointed in the size of it (1 slice) for the price.

perfect for preshow meal. we went to jones before heading to the walnut street theater to see mary poppins. the alt sandwich was absolutely delicious! my mom had achickensandwich, my sister built her own salad and my niece had calamari and french fries. it was very busy, so it was a little loud, but there were plenty of menu choices, and the desserts looked fantastic too! can't wait to go back!

do not go here if you are looking for a cheap lunch. i thought it was very good, but yes it is on the upper end of the 10-20 dollar-per-entree scale. i got the friedchickenbasket that comes with fries and coleslaw. the friedchickenwas great, some of the best i've found while traveling. the fries were not my favorite style but weren't bad at all. lastly, the (very) small side of coleslaw was actually really good; and i'm not a fan of coleslaw. the portion size was big which may be why the prices are higher. the service however, was slow and was what really made me feel like i was paying a little too much.

diverse menu, good food. this is not your run of the mill restaurant. jones has a very diverse menu of classic comfort foods and other popular dishes. there is no way anyone could not find something on the menu to order, and would likely have a difficult time deciding on a single entrée. i went with thechickenpot pie. my last pot pie has been many, many meals ago. i also ordered a potato pancake appetizer to share and a caesar salad.

the salad was excellent. the dressing was creamy goodness and the focaccia croutons wonderful. the potato pancakes were nicely cooked but a little bland, fixed by the side of applesauce. the appearance of the pot pie was so amazing i didn't want to touch it, but i did. the crust was very flaky. the insides were not exceptional, but still good. there was plenty of food and it had the usual peas and carrots and squares of chicken. it was not as salty as i remember those little frozen pot pies from my youth.

service was average, some waiting but not too much. one person with me ordered a steak that was so undercooked he sent it back. they fixed it but not too quickly. overall, it was a good and filling dinner.

frommers rates this as most kid friendly in philly - not!. we were travelling with our 6 year old and wanted a laid back restaurant that would be ok to take a child on a saturday evening. while it was ok to take him - he was not overly welcome. they have no kid menu, nor would they serve kid portions - so we ordered him a $19chickenpot pie. yes $19. while he loved the pot pie and it has inspired me to learn how to make it, so not worth $19. not sure why frommers would rate this the most kid friendly restuarant in philly.
as far as service goes, ours was marignal at best. completely uninterested in our table and took forever to return to our table with drinks, to take our order, and then bring the check.
i ordered the reuben sandwich with turkey and the turkey was somewhat dry and there was very little dressing on the sandwich. definitely not the best of anything as far as we were concerned. additionally, on the kid friendly rating, the bar was packed and we had to navigate our way through three times to get to our table and the restrooms. thank goodness he didn't bump into anyone and spill a drink.
don't bring the kids!

disapointment. i was very disapointed with jones. it was loud because there is only hard surfaces in the space which makes sounds (voices whatever) vbounce around like crazy. i felt like all i said was "what did u say?" the whole time. then thechickenpotpie was sold out so i had to get something else. i got the pork chop and it was terribly overcooked to the point that i doubt my dogs would have eaten it. my boyfriend enjoyed whatever it was that he got to eat but agreed that it was way too loud to be enjoyable. the service was just so-so as well. i would say avoid this place but i hear i really missed out on the potpie.

nice night out. picked this restaurant off of urbanspoon after taking a quick unguided tour of the independance hall area. we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. i had a sweet potato chipotle soup to start and the flat iron steak as my entree. both were well prepared and very tasty.

looking around at the other diners in the restaurant, i can say that thechickenpot pie and the grilled cheese with tomato soup dishes looked very tasty as well. everyone at our table loved thier dishes and everyone cleaned their plates.

no dessert for us tonight, but they had some pretty tempting offerings. just too full.

not my favorite stephen starr restaurant. after our show at the society hill play house we walked a few blocks to "jones." i am a big fan of stephen starr restaurants so i was anxious to try "jones." our party of 4 arrived at the restaurant at 4:30 pm and was surprised the bar was open but the restaurant was closed until 5pm. the hostess offered us a table anyway and we brought our bar drinks to our table. (so pleased she accomodated us!). my lemon drop martini was right on! (buddakhan makes them the best and this was as good as buddakhan!).
our half hour wait for the restaurant kitchen to open went fast as we sipped our drinks and enjoyed our friend's visit from north jersey. everything on the menu sounded sooo good ...it was hard to narrow down our choices...but i ordered the potatoe latkes as my first course and the calamari salad as my main dish. (they do this so well at the "contential restaurant"). my husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich, our friends ordered thechickenpot pie and the other friend ordered thechickenavacado sandwich and salad. they all split an order of calamari and an order of potato latkes.
here is the outcome...potatoe latkes were very good! three latkes were served on a plate with sour cream and apple sauce...was a nice portion. the calamari was a bit dried out. being the first in the restaurant i thought they tasted re-heated from the day before. my calamari salad was also a bit dried out and the dressing was not great...a bit spicy for a salad dressing. my friend said thechickenpot pie was too spicy and same with the pulled pork. the spices over powered the food.
i was more disapointed than pleased with this dining experience. i hold stephen starr restaurants to a higher standard and this was a let down. prices are very reasonable, staff is very good, atmosphere is very nice, but food and quality was not there this time.
i do plan to give it another try but i will not recommend this restaurant until i try it again and i see how that goes.

not jonesin for jones. across the street from aqua, the malaysian fun food spot, is stephen starr's ode to american comfort food, jones. great breakfasts, chickenand waffles, meat loaf and honest mashed potatoes all contribute to making the concept work well. ultra casual service far from perfect with staff giving off a subtle vibe of "hey, this is a starr restaurant, they'll be back". maybe not!
given starr's understanding of what the public wants in service, having not 1 but 2 hostesses stare blankly back from 6 feet away when being beckoned discreetly, repeat discreetly, after our server went mia, while mouthing," you speaking to me" inexplicable but cost the restaurant any chance of a return visit despite decent food.
