perfect po-boy. after a few recommendations from friends in no, i had the chance to check out johnny's po-boys on a business trip this week. as many times as i have had a mufalletta, i have never had one in new orleans, so that was what i went with. i was asked if i wanted it toasted, and i am glad i said yes. i have never had a cold mufalletta, and i am not sure how i would like it. for $8.00 i got a half a muff, which is what you normally get anywhere you order one. the olive dressing was outstanding with chunks of olives, carrots a celery. and there was perfect ratio of meat to cheese. the bread was fresh and very soft. and yes, it was very busy and crowded. but, you can not expect go to a "famous" place in the quarter and not expect crowds. the staff i dealt with was very friendly and helpful. and as busy as it was, the orders were filled quickly and efficiently. this is definitely not a place to kick back and relax. but, if you want a good, solid new orleans po-boy, you can't go wrong!

cash only, crowded, average. johnny’s suffers from the same problem as most french district restaurants; it is way too crowded. however if you decide to go, be warned it is strictly cash only: no credit cards, no debit cards and no checks. it is a very small place and if you manage to find a seat you will be banged into by passerbys and the folks at the neighboring tables. there is a backroom that is less crowded, but i hate to eat right in front of the bathroom doors. it is also hot; too many people, too little air conditioning. it is counter service. because the lady taking orders and money was trying to serve so many people we got the rushed, impersonal service that the situation fosters. as for the food it was average for new orleans po-boys. the roast beef was the best of the ones my group ordered. if i was in the area and it was off-hours i might go back, but i won’t make a special trip.

91%... really? 19 maybe. rude staff, stale bread, old cold dried out crawfish po-boy. oyster was no better. very disappointed after such a high rating.

johnny's. the po-boys were tasty but a little lackluster, not sure what was missing but i was a little disappointed. the service was great and there were some fun diners in the restaurant that made for a memorable experience.

chicken park was fried chicken tenders with sauce. sauce sweet & garlicky with green pepper strong taste. meatball po boy was mush, not good taste or texture with same sauce.

maybe their cold cuts are better?

roll had no flavor. was nothing like a tasty french bread.

$30 for 3 po-boys to go. (no drinks in that price.)

at johnny's po-boys, it is of course imperative that you get a po-boy, a casual new orleans sandwich with meat stuffed inside french bread. the only question is what kind? with several dozen varieties to choose from, it is not an easy decision to make. i was intrigued by the alligator sausage po-boy special , with half of an alligator sausage po-boy, seafood gumbo, and a drink.

breakfast is so good!. went here for breakfast and it was so good. i had the bacon, egg and cheese po-boy. my friend had bacon, eggs and grits, she said it was very good. staff was friendly. wish we would have had lunch here but never made it back over there before they closed in the afternoons. will definitely go back again next time we are in new orleans.

the other po’boy we ordered was the alligator sausage. this one was better since it contained a whole sausage, but it was nothing to write home about so i will leave it at that.

the fountain drinks were good. the only thing i can recommend is the sprite. shrimp po boy had stale bread, tough and unseasoned shrimp. added hot sauce to make the gumbo tolerable. threw away almost the entire meal. find another spot for your po boy fix.
