i've never had a bad meal at this place and i love their fast service in time for shows at belvoir. the fish is always super fresh and delicious and i love the sauce on the wagyu beef. great choice for japanese - hot or cold.

what a beautiful japanese restaurant! whats better than eating delicious japanese food while listening to live jazz music. everything we ordered was delicious. the restaurant was nice and intimate. great for date nights. only downfall was it was quite expensive for the serving sizes.

my partner and i came here for a date night but very very disappointed. the food took more than hour to come out in between dishes and when we asked the staff they just said the kitchen is busy.. even though there was only three other tables. we had the cancel our order after two dishes because it was already 9:30 (we got there at 7:45), would not recommend!

waited more than a hour for food and told the waiters 3 times to check on the food and yet still waiting. service is terrible.
food was not the best
salmon was not fresh
salmon sashimi does not take 1 hr to slice
terrible and terrible
would not recommend to come here and does not deserve a 4 star rating

the food was delicious. the stand out was the sliced duck breast. as full as we were, it was could not be passable! the green tea noodle salad was the runner up. meanwhile, the inside out rolls were nothing special.

vegetarian goodness. there are some really nice vegetarian dishes available at this restaurant. try the asparagus with saikyo sauce.

food was really lovely. service was fabulous! the jazz band was a bit loud for decent conversations however gave it a very good vibe. we had the jazushi set menu. quite a lot of food to be honest. the highlights were definitely the carpaccio, green tea soba salad and camembert tempura. something pretty special and worth coming to! everything else was pretty standard. all the pictures shown are to share between 3 people.

came here for an intimate birthday gathering. we ordered the teriyaki duck, seared scallops carpaccio, jfc and a couple other things. great food, lovely waitstaff, and a nice little jazz duo playing in the background. the price was pretty standard as well - my wallet lives to see another meal.

went there this afternoon for lunch, which happens to be 5 mins away from my office :) we opted for tempura kinoki mushroom lunch sets, grilled oyster with miso cream sauce, camembert tempura and vanilla cream brulee. lunch sets came out with miso soup, agedashi tofu, salad and steam rice. the grilled oyster was beautiful (we even licked the cream sauce clean lol). camembert tempura was alright, the sauce was delicious, that we kept it until the end. the kinoki mushroom with creamy balsamic sauce + shredded parmesan, was d i v i n e...none of the dishes tasted the same..different flavours kept flowing harmoniously..the cream brulee was a good ending to this captivating experience :) will come back for their other dishes!!

the thing i like most about jazushi is the food. it sounds like it should be obvious... after all a restaurant serving good food can hardly be ground-breaking! however in the drive to find something new and interesting often the food can be left behind, a reticent understudy, as ambience and innovation become the stars of the show. and jazushi certainly does provide ambience and innovation. jazz and sushi... a seemingly unlikely mix that works so well together you wonder why all sushi doesn't come with a trio playing in the background. the atmosphere in the front room where we are seated is modern yet cosy. it is a place to come with friends and share a meal. and at the heart of it all is a menu, simple and small, yet bursting with excitement. "what do you want to order", someone asks. "everything" is the only possible response. yet everything cannot be ordered... time, our wallets, and limited stomach capacity decree it cannot be so. so everyone picks

i ordered a set menu for takeaway and i was blown away with the quality, portions and taste. the chicken was tender, juicy and filled with flavour. the sashimi was fresh and refreshing. i loved the renkon chips and miso hummus. overall great set menu with lots of variety. the staff are very kind and polite.

amazing experience overall!
we visited jazushi in the post-covid era which means unfortunately there was no live jazz music, but the ambience and food was absolutely stellar.
located minutes from surry hills light rail station, it is very convenient to get to this small and cozy place for a date night. we recommend booking beforehand as it is popular with a good reason!
we started with edamame (spiced with sichimi salt) and the wagyu tataki - both amazing. would also recommend the rien pear sake to go with these. gyoza comes with the best sauce.
for the bigger plates we ordered soft shell crab and the kakuni (slow-braised pork belly), while the latter is very decadent and we absolutely loved it, it might not be everyone's thing! (unless you like layers of fat melting like we do!). in that case, the fried chicken will not disappoint.

would definitely come back to try to sashimi next time, hopefully there will be live music soon!

jazushi is really a hidden gem! don’t be fooled by the exterior, it really does look subdued from out the outside but inside is a nice and cosy restaurant.

the food was enjoyable, i was really surprised as we did not book and was just walking around surry hills. we had in kind to try something new and something i’ve not heard of before. the agedashi tofu was delicious, i love the broth it came with also the dip we had in the beginning! we definitely ate that slowly so we could enjoy it through out dinner. it was a combination between hummus and miso!

service was great, cosy atmosphere and definitely deserves more recognition.

jazz + sushi = jazushi = a beautiful japanese restaurant with fun and sometimes, live jazz music. this is one of my favourites in sydney and absolutely perfect for a date night! we opted for the omakase and all of the dishes were so delicious and more-ish that we ordered more food to try on the side. i really recommend trying the hiramasa kingfish sashimi, grilled hokkaido scallops, curry chicken breast, yuzu cake and matcha sundae!
