what a beautiful japanese restaurant! whats better than eating delicious japanese food while listening to livejazzmusic. everything we ordered was delicious. the restaurant was nice and intimate. great for date nights. only downfall was it was quite expensive for the serving sizes.

food was really lovely. service was fabulous! thejazzband was a bit loud for decent conversations however gave it a very good vibe. we had the jazushi set menu. quite a lot of food to be honest. the highlights were definitely the carpaccio, green tea soba salad and camembert tempura. something pretty special and worth coming to! everything else was pretty standard. all the pictures shown are to share between 3 people.

came here for an intimate birthday gathering. we ordered the teriyaki duck, seared scallops carpaccio, jfc and a couple other things. great food, lovely waitstaff, and a nice littlejazzduo playing in the background. the price was pretty standard as well - my wallet lives to see another meal.

the thing i like most about jazushi is the food. it sounds like it should be obvious... after all a restaurant serving good food can hardly be ground-breaking! however in the drive to find something new and interesting often the food can be left behind, a reticent understudy, as ambience and innovation become the stars of the show. and jazushi certainly does provide ambience and innovation.jazzand sushi... a seemingly unlikely mix that works so well together you wonder why all sushi doesn't come with a trio playing in the background. the atmosphere in the front room where we are seated is modern yet cosy. it is a place to come with friends and share a meal. and at the heart of it all is a menu, simple and small, yet bursting with excitement. "what do you want to order", someone asks. "everything" is the only possible response. yet everything cannot be ordered... time, our wallets, and limited stomach capacity decree it cannot be so. so everyone picks

amazing experience overall!
we visited jazushi in the post-covid era which means unfortunately there was no livejazzmusic, but the ambience and food was absolutely stellar.
located minutes from surry hills light rail station, it is very convenient to get to this small and cozy place for a date night. we recommend booking beforehand as it is popular with a good reason!
we started with edamame (spiced with sichimi salt) and the wagyu tataki - both amazing. would also recommend the rien pear sake to go with these. gyoza comes with the best sauce.
for the bigger plates we ordered soft shell crab and the kakuni (slow-braised pork belly), while the latter is very decadent and we absolutely loved it, it might not be everyone's thing! (unless you like layers of fat melting like we do!). in that case, the fried chicken will not disappoint.

would definitely come back to try to sashimi next time, hopefully there will be live music soon!

jazz + sushi = jazushi = a beautiful japanese restaurant with fun and sometimes, livejazzmusic. this is one of my favourites in sydney and absolutely perfect for a date night! we opted for the omakase and all of the dishes were so delicious and more-ish that we ordered more food to try on the side. i really recommend trying the hiramasa kingfish sashimi, grilled hokkaido scallops, curry chicken breast, yuzu cake and matcha sundae!

came here because of the good reviews and was disappointed, the food was overpriced for the quality and you were essentially paying for pretty pink lighting and a guy singing tojazzmusic on a piano in a corner.

the kingfish sushi was just a bowl of rice topped with kingfish that you had to diy, but it had plenty of rice and not enough fish and overall was just an unimpressive deconstructed sushi that was deconstructed for no reason.

while the scallops were nice in theory, they were overly oily and lacking much flavour.

the best dish of the night were the buttered prawns, although again they were way too oily, the prawn heads had good flavour when bitten though.

we couldn’t make it to dessert

amazing japanese fusion restaurant with livejazzmusic. stand out dish was the cold noodle salad; hiyashi ramen. the tomatoes were immersed in honey syrup that is a party for any tastebud. warm atmosphere, decor is really nice, food is delicious what more can we say.

my girlfriends and i came here to celebrate a birthday. the food was amazing and the atmosphere was relaxed and nice, however the cake topper of the night would be the incredible service! when we ordered dessert thejazzband sang happy birthday to our friend! totally did not expect that nor did we arrange that, but the staff went above and beyond our expectations. thank you so much jazushi ❤️ we will be back soon!

super fun restaurant that serves great food and has livejazzmusic on the weekends. it can get cramped as it is a small space so when it’s super busy you may accidentally bump into tables as you walk through. the staff are amazing and very welcoming. definitely recommend.

jazushi has livejazzon saturday nights; unfortunately, we were seated outside the back of the restaurant where the music wasn't very clear. we went for the set menu which was alright but not outstanding. best items were the salmon carpaccio; the braised pork belly; and the creme brulee. didn't like the fried chicken nor the fried cheese. sushi was ok. our table was ignored most of the night possibly because we were outside. portions were small so hungry diners might need to scour for a post-dinner feed.

a cosy joint to have shared plates, have a few sake (of which there is quite a selection), listen to classic n contemporaryjazzpumped out by (at the time) a duo of pianist n acoustic guitarist. the venue is split into the main (front), semi private dining (at the rear n upstairs). parking is a horror with current roadworks.

we had agedashi tofu, corn fritters, breaded oyster, assorted sushi, wagyu beef, squid ink tempura, soft shell crab. while the food was average, the service was excellent. the oysters werent too fresh, the wagyu slices came out cold (twice), the corn fritters mediocre, portions were on the small side. note that food took sometime to come as warned by the lovely waitress. quite a forgettable meal save for the fact that they let our monsters jam on the piano.

food rates 2.5/5, service 4/5.

the atmosphere at jazushi was quite unique. there was livejazzplaying throughout the night which really set the mood. being a small restaurant, service was attentive and prompt. we ordered a variety of dishes as i was excited by the menu. i really wanted to try everything but decided on:

- grilled scallop 2pcs, with garlic butter and saikyo miso sauce: this dish was absolutely delicious. the scallops were cooked perfectly and the sauce was to die for.
- sweet corn 'kakiage' fritter with green tea salt: a tasty snack to have in between dishes. the consistency of the batter reminded me of tempura.
- regular sashimi set: the serving size was quite small as the fish was cut in relatively small sizes. the quality of the sashimi was standard restaurant quality.
- seared sushi set: this dish lacked in flavour as the rice was not flavoured enough and the fish was not seared enough. this may be their style of aburi sushi but for me i prefer a little more flavour.
- jfc: this dish was a strange east meets west fusion. the chicken was moist but it could've been more crispy and it needed a little more salt. underneath is their homemade tartar sauce which didn't compliment the dish very well.
- vanilla creme brulee: the sugar on top was caramelised too far so it was too bitter. however, the custard underneath was perfect.
- green tea ice cream: your standard green tea ice cream.

overall, the food was okay, i just expected a little more.
