great service, food ok, & "no music tonight". the young waiter who served us was a friendly helpful fellow, who clearly likes talking to customers. however i felt the food, for the price, was nothing out of the ordinary. i've had better japanese food at yuki's, and even the humble manmaruya at campise gives better value for a lot less.
that said the venue is cool. if you wanted to impress someone not familiar with japanese food, this is the place to go.it is so cool, in fact, i felt like i had stumbled upon a place in harajuku (tokyo's equivalent of newtown). do check (if you go) that they are plalying jazz that evening, as they do not always do so, as on the night i went there was no live music. it was not mid-week either...disappointing. i would eat here again if someone else was paying, but for me there are better places to eat japanese food.

it's so refreshing to see restaurant liks jazushi offering culture beyond what is served on the plate. that extra touch of live jazz music is really the cherry on top and the reason why i will always return to jazushi.

best. birthday. ever.. just got back from this place and i just had to write this review instantly because i have never had such great service. i am absolutely delighted with my experience at jazushi. never been to fine dining before so i was a bit anxious and didn't know what to expect but it just blew me away.

first of all, the manager was extremely nice, helpful and accommodating when i was trying to book.

the service on actual night was brilliant; filling cups when they were running low, accommodating my vegetarian friend, bringing out dishes in a timely manner when we finished one, instantly bringing a new pair of chopsticks when someone dropped theirs.

the jazz on the night was excellent. it set a great ambiance and sounded awesome. paul sun was playing tonight and he was really nice as well (in addition to being a great musician).

the food was really good. some of the best tasting dishes i have ever eaten. i was worried it might not be enough - but believe me, the set menu of 9 courses is definitely enough (for our group anyway). we were all in food comas after that because it was so good and filling. it's hard to choose a favourite but i would narrow it down to the green tea noodle salad and the pork belly. the set menu is really good value as well.

and finally, convenient location and great decor. it's a no brainer. i would not hesitate to recommend jazushi to anyone. i will definitely be coming back.

the deep fried camembert, scallops, green tea noodle salad and any of the tataki dishes are incredible! my partner and i come here regularly and we've tried almost every japanese & fusion japanese restaurants in surry hills, city and out west and this is still our absolute favourite. the atmosphere is loud with jazz and chatter but its very cosy and romantic and we're always greeted with amazing customer service. my friends have even added matt the waiter to their facebook page because they adore him that much! this is an outstanding gem of a restaurant and no dish has done us wrong so far. my only wish is that they expand their dessert menu :)

my favorite restaurant in sydney! i've been here a number of times over the years and always left happy. outside is more intimate, as downstairs can get noisy (but still a great atmosphere). brilliant music, i've never been disappointed.

overpriced food that was nothing special. after booking in advance for a birthday event we were seated upstairs in a stuffy non-air-conditioned room with a jazz cd playing (promised live jazz). horrible service. left hungry and out of pocket. went elsewhere afterwards!

nothing bad about jazushi. been here a dozen times and the food is always great! my choice is the set menu so i get a bit of every goodness off the menu.. dont miss the tempura camembert!
service is always excellent so far!
it's a nice restaurant with nice live jazz music.
they can get quite busy so be sure to make your reservations.

the experience i had at jazushi was awesome. the service was impeccable; we had our green tea refilled every time it was empty and we also had a pretty quirky waiter at our service. the ambiance is refreshing to have a live jazz band play for you. the set menu came to $60 per person, and the food was enough to make me content (belly bursting, to be honest). would definitely go there again!

we decided to try jazushi based on other review pictures alone - our expectations were exceeded when we walked in and realisec what the name meant - a fusion of jazz and japanese! the jazz was awesome - we had free form duo playing who were very talented, but not overbearing. the food was original and beautifully presented, with plenty of variety on offer, and the blend of ingredients used were a great palette pleaser. the service was authentic and very friendly, with meal timing also fine. the atmosphere was relaxed and warm, complimented by the smooth jazz live tunes. will i be returning? absojazzolutely!

really cute japanese gem. its a little pricey if you order everything separately so would recommend bringing a group and ordering the set menu. creme brulee is amazing

jazz & japanese that are both honto oishi! interesting combination but it definitely works. we ordered and ate way more than necessary, but it was pretty hard fight the chopstick table-to-mouth movement. beautiful fresh oysters, tasty salted edamame, tender eggplant stakes, and fall-apart twice-cooked pork belly and maybe one more... yep, this little pig ate too much and couldn't fit in dessert. we washed all this down with an nz pinot from the well-priced wine list and a chilled-out jazz piano/chello combo. overall, i'd rate it a 7-8. you'll leave very satisfied with the price, quality and atmosphere. domo arigato!
