over time jardin nelson has become a tourist trap. the concept is nice, open skylight and different levels of dining in garden atmosphere. bands playing on certain nights give off festive atmosphere. for the foodie, this is not ideal gourmet place. i go here for cheap nachos and beer, on a warm day after walking around oldmontrealfor a break to rest my feet. casual place and busy most of the time.

the setting and atmosphere this restaurant has is incredible because you’re sitting in the middle of a garden while there is live music entertaining you during a beautifulmontrealsummer day! we waited to get a table which was exciting for me because it meant that the demand to eat there was high and that the food must be great. i ordered the mushroom crepe which was lovely! the variety of mushrooms was great but i wished they used a variety of cheese too.

i don’t think i did this restaurant justice by ordering a crepe but the waiter said they are very popular so i had to try it.

this restaurant is located in the centre of oldmontreal& has a beautiful outdoor ambiance. it's busy & noisy; the food was ok, nothing special. the live band was good but we were seated directly next to them making it difficult to carry a conversation with friends.

this is a beautiful spot right in oldmontrealthat i had seen in my travels.  it has a lovely indoor/outdoor tropical dining room and they often have live music playing which is just wonderful.  we sat outside on the patio that allowed for great people watching.

an otherwise great evening turned cold...literally.. on a beautiful autumn night, the large patio was atmospherically lit and despite it being a bit cool, the outdoor heaters were on full blast allowing guests to comfortably enjoy dinner outside listening to a live jazz band.

this is worth noting because of what follows.

in serving our entrees, the waitress accidentally knocked over a full glass of ice water on my dad’s lap. my dad (who’s in his mid 70’s), did not make a huge fuss however he was quite cold the rest of the evening and obviously rather uncomfortable sitting in a pair of corduroys that were soaked through.

the waitress apologized profusely and as water had spilled on his entrée as well, she had the kitchen make a new order. however when the bill came, i expected to see some sort of acknowledgement of the inconvenience....right? wrong. fully charged for every item ordered. i was completely shocked. i eat out a lot and when accidents happen, the establishment usually backs their staff up somehow – desserts on the house, drinks or at the very least, the dinner of the person this happened to. my dad chose to give her the full 15% tip which i would’ve agreed with had this incident been acknowledged but nothing was - hence the review. food was good. atmosphere was good. customer relations = 0. surprising given that the restaurant is located in a tourist area where you would think customer service and hospitality are of utmost importance. but then again, it’s obvious that these guys are not looking to nurture return business in any way nor are they concerned about competitive business. i for one, will not be back and will not offer a recommendation.montrealhas a ton of fantastic restaurants in great neighbourhoods all around the city – there is certainly nothing here that can’t be enjoyed elsewhere where the level of customer appreciation is exercised and shown at a level befitting the establishment and its’ environs.

the back patio is a summer oasis. live jazz on weekends and holidays adds to the oldmontrealcharm. the crepes are sweet giving even the confit of brome lake duck crepe a light feel. the salmon salad is light and delicious especially on a hot summer's day

only so so. we were visitingmontrealon a wednesday and stopped here for lunch. a jazz good duo was playing. the place was crowded but the service was ok. i ordered crepe forestier and my wife had the crepe basilico. they were okay, somewhat bland and over priced. the wine selections were standard and again over priced. but then it seems every place on street was over priced so ...

...i knew i wanted to go to a crepe place inmontreal(i.e. one that is known for their crepes), and preferably located in old montreal, and preferably with a patio with a nice / romantic atmosphere haha. and just my luck, i found all my requirements at jardin nelson . it has a lovely courtyard, with trees and plants surrounding the place, and has jazz music playing in the background at all times. like its website says, it is " a small and comfortable oasis where the summer breeze is always present ", and i cannot agree more. according to jardin nelson's website : their courtyard's plant design was purposely matched with the restaurant's architecture, which dates back to 1812. different kinds of jazz music is played depending on whether its noon time, afternoon, or evening, and also ch
