poor service. had the worst service and thefoodwas mediocre, we placed our order for mixed salad greens and we received the strawberry spinach salad, that was fine we thought maybe she did not understand us correctly, i opened my napkin only to find a knife but no fork. i had the salad on my plate but no fork so i asked the waitress if she could please get me a fork. i waited and waited while she cleared off tables and took orders from other patrons. eventually i had to ask another waitress for a fork which she immediately brought to me. about 15 minutes later the waitress came to me with a fork. we then had some sort of appetizer that was cheese baked in a crust, there was nothing good about it at all. we ordered the mexican pizza which was supposed to be spicy (it had a picture of a hot pepper beside it) but it ended up being very bland tasting. she did not ask if i would like another glass of wine as it sat empty half way through the meal. worst of all it took another half hour to get our bill, i had to flag her down in order to pay. the restaurant itself was very unique and the music was excellent but i would think twice about eating there again.

the setting and atmosphere this restaurant has is incredible because you’re sitting in the middle of a garden while there is live music entertaining you during a beautiful montreal summer day! we waited to get a table which was exciting for me because it meant that the demand to eat there was high and that thefoodmust be great. i ordered the mushroom crepe which was lovely! the variety of mushrooms was great but i wished they used a variety of cheese too.

i don’t think i did this restaurant justice by ordering a crepe but the waiter said they are very popular so i had to try it.

thefoodwas fantastic. all 4 members of my family licked their plates clean! first off, the salmon lasagna was very creamy, had large chunks of salmon in it, and was prepared perfectly as it was extremely hot and cheese was crusted well. the chicken pesto crepe was a bit on the colder side but overall was extremely tasty and packed with flavours. the baked ziti was well made and had a very classic taste as well. finally the duck confit was a prize to my tastebuds. such decadent comfortfoodwhile travelling is hard to find , but the duck confit really shone and the fruit ketchup and beets sides really added a tangy flavour that offset the really heavy tastes of the potato and the duck. overall, great experience, and all under 125 dollars including alcohol for 2 people!

this restaurant is located in the centre of old montreal & has a beautiful outdoor ambiance. it's busy & noisy; thefoodwas ok, nothing special. the live band was good but we were seated directly next to them making it difficult to carry a conversation with friends.

jardin nelson is one of my favourite restaurants in montreal. thefoodis good, but mostly i like the ambience of the open air courtyard with the different terrace levels and plants, along with the live jazz music.

i went there for dinner with a colleague who had not been before. we got there just before 6 pm and we had to wait in line about 20 minutes for a table. it was worth the wait.

we started the meal by splitting an order of their breaded calamari, and both of us agreed that it was one of the better calamari dishes we had ever had. the breading was a light golden brown and had a light crispness, and the coating flavour was mild, so as to not overwhelm the calamari. the temperature of the calamari inside was just where it needed to be, so that each bite was a delightful chew.

for my main course i chose the florentine crêpe. the crepe batter was buckwheat and hemp; a pleasant earthiness. the filling was the traditional florentine ham and spinach, along with bechamel sauce, parmesan and brie. delightful upscale ham and cheese!

great place, average food.

situated at the heart if the touristy area of old montreal, this restaurant is hard to be missed. the atmosphere was amazing, as you find yourself sitting in a garden surrounded by the quaint buildings of old montreal, and immersed in a live jazz band performance.

the menu is more geared towards comfort & pub food, with some selection of pizza.

thefooditself was average, but i guess you are paying for the atmosphere.

great place to spend a few hours, not so great a place if you're looking for awesome food.

i heard so many good comments about jardin nelson from some of my friends that i attempted to get in there in a couple of occasions but, the place is so busy most of the time that i ended up bouncing to somewhere else...

however, we had the opportunity to finally get in the last day of the season. it was a nice day but a bit cold already. we sat down in the patio where live jazz music was playing. the ambiance was very relaxing and, luckily, they had heaters that helped with the cold.

we had coffee and lunch and, thefoodwas good indeed. i had the seafood crepe which looked very plain and simple but, it was full of delicious seafood and cheese. i really enjoyed it!

i think the service was good but a bit slow considering that the place wasn't packed...

based on my experience, i believe that we didn't see the best of jardin nelson for it being the end of the season but, we saw enough potential to believe it has a lot more to offer during the peak of the season.

we went there for our anniversary.foodwas good but it didn't impress me that much from what my gf have been telling me. maybe it was because i took the wrong dish. nonetheless i really like the ambiance and the musicians. i will have to go back to try thefoodagain just to be sure.

nice ambiance overpriced average food the best thing about this place is how cute the back terrace is, with its live jazz band and pretty flowers. the drinks are very good too although bit pricey. thefoodhowever i found to be overpriced for what it is and lacks any innovation or creativity. this place is definitely not for the foodie. however for a date night if you just want to have a drink, this place is a pleasant option.

incredibly touristy spot and very very busy. that said, atmosphere is buzzing in a good way, the setting makes you feel well like you are in a garden and they had a live jazz band playing.  food was ok, service was friendly, courteous and prompt.

5/5 for ambiance, 3/5 for food, 4/5 for service.

thefoodhas actually improved over the last few years, but jardin nelson is still not a place you go to eat well.  that being said, the atmosphere is hard to beat: a live jazz trio will greet you as you enter one of old montreal's best courtyards.

an otherwise great evening turned cold...literally.. on a beautiful autumn night, the large patio was atmospherically lit and despite it being a bit cool, the outdoor heaters were on full blast allowing guests to comfortably enjoy dinner outside listening to a live jazz band.

this is worth noting because of what follows.

in serving our entrees, the waitress accidentally knocked over a full glass of ice water on my dad’s lap. my dad (who’s in his mid 70’s), did not make a huge fuss however he was quite cold the rest of the evening and obviously rather uncomfortable sitting in a pair of corduroys that were soaked through.

the waitress apologized profusely and as water had spilled on his entrée as well, she had the kitchen make a new order. however when the bill came, i expected to see some sort of acknowledgement of the inconvenience....right? wrong. fully charged for every item ordered. i was completely shocked. i eat out a lot and when accidents happen, the establishment usually backs their staff up somehow – desserts on the house, drinks or at the very least, the dinner of the person this happened to. my dad chose to give her the full 15% tip which i would’ve agreed with had this incident been acknowledged but nothing was - hence the review.foodwas good. atmosphere was good. customer relations = 0. surprising given that the restaurant is located in a tourist area where you would think customer service and hospitality are of utmost importance. but then again, it’s obvious that these guys are not looking to nurture return business in any way nor are they concerned about competitive business. i for one, will not be back and will not offer a recommendation. montreal has a ton of fantastic restaurants in great neighbourhoods all around the city – there is certainly nothing here that can’t be enjoyed elsewhere where the level of customer appreciation is exercised and shown at a level befitting the establishment and its’ environs.
