opted for jang ta bal over our usual korean bbq joint tonight (jo ja ryong). staff are super friendly here, full of smiles. they even offered to get new side dishes for us before we could ask for refills which is a big tick in my books--i generally feel bad disturbing the waitstaff to ask for free refills but here they happily do it for you!

they have two seating styles in the restaurant. we weren't offered a choice but would've loved to try the traditional seating! looks like fun.

we ordered the wagyu marbled beef, ox tongue and pork belly. we also got the egg soup.

the meats look like not much at all but once you cook it up, it really fills you up! the wagyu was so nice and soft and melt-in-your-mouth and all those heavenly things. my favourite was the ox tongue: thought the flavour was just on point.

egg soup was disappointing for me though. a long wait for an egg hot pot that wasn't very flavoursome at all. perhaps i'm too used to egg pots with more seasoning? i just felt like this was just steamed egg with nothing added and it felt really bland.

overall, agreatexperience!

been wanting to try out this place for the longest time because of all the positive reviews and heard so many good things about it, so i’m happy i finally got to visit!

first time we came, we arrived at 6pm and there was a 1-2hr wait due to peak dinner time. so we decided to have an early dinner at 4:30pm to avoid the crowd. it was pretty empty inside which wasgreatas it wasn’t too noisy.

we ordered the wagyu set, pork belly, seafood pancake and cold noodles. the meat quality was amazing, it was so tender and melted in our mouths! the seafood pancake was also super crispy, and the cold noodles with the freshly cooked meat made the perfect combo. also loved the side dishes that came with everything – especially the mashed potato.

the staff were attentive and served our food promptly after ordering. there was also a spray outside the restaurant when you walk out so you won’t smell like bbq. would definitely come back again!

one of the best korean bbq experiences i have had in strathfield. from the moment you walk in you are set for an experience. there are various seating arrangements, and i had the pleasure of sitting on the floor seating which was cozey and comfortable. it really felt homely and comfortable.

the dishes although a bit on the pricey side are well worth it. you are greeted with a large variety of side dishes which are a plus at any korean restaurant. there are various meats to choose from and the portions are quite large. every piece of meat had exceptional quality. the staff were very attentive and assisted with cooking the meat when needed without being asked.

there is lots of traditional korean alcohol such as plum wine and soju to enjoy. this is truly agreatplace to go with a group of friends if you’re looking to leave happy. the experience was out of this world and is the stand out restaurant amongst the various korean bbq restaurants in strathfield.

just tried out this busy bbq restaurant today. it did not take long for us to get a table, waited for around 10 mins at 6pm.
the most important part is, meat were ofgreatquality. side dishes were good as well. the peach makgeoli (not sure if i spelled right) tastes wonderful and we easily finished the whole bottle lol.
would definitely come back.

service: on father day lunch it was quite bad. people were queing at the cold windy door and the waitress cam to gather numbers but she never returned to walk people to their tables! the front guy was grumpy and was shouting i was first but this place is just walk in and seat yourself. inattentive, you need to wave your hand like a mexican wave. staff all just arrived from korean and have limited english 2/5

food: consistently good tasty korean food. good side dishes , kfc chicken seafood pankcake and bone broth soups 3.5/5

value: about $80 for four people is bang for buck, u walk out satisfied and warm belly 3.5/5

vibe: buzzy and packed, u can talk loud eat loud. not for quiet romantic dates.greatfor groups 3/5

this place is our favorite korean bbq. it has all the favourites, greatatmosphere and flavoured soju! down side is, there is always a line, however, it means its good right?

the meat has all the varieties, beef, pork, wagyu etc. the favourites: egg soup, seafood pancake, pan fried dumplings – yum! there is free parking in the plaza, plenty of street parking in the side streets. don’t forget to put your name on the list when you arrive to join the waiting list.

nothing bad to say, we don’t even mind the wait for a table, we would not go anywhere else.

upon finally visiting this place after knowing of it's popularity for a while, surprisingly it did meet expectations. as this place doesn't take bookings, if you're planning to come eat here, have an early dinner. upon arrival, if there's no space they will put your name on reserve on their ipad system in which they will text you when they're ready to have you. for an arrival at 6pm, this meant an 1hr and 15min wait for us, so hopefully you have some friends to chat to or shopping to get done otherwise it would be a frustrating wait. thankfully with the former i was able to be patient. walking in you enter this enclosed space with a very rustic/underground vibe where everyone is just chilling, enjoying a meal. this restaurant has good quality, fresh meat and had a variety of side dishes suited for kbbq. service was very efficient as we sat down they immediately brought all the necessary condiments. everything was tasty from the meat, egg drop soup, japchae and pancakes. refill requests were also efficient. without a doubt, it was an expensive meal, in line with all kbbq places in sydney. despite this, it's a place with tasty food and agreatatmosphere to have a casual hangout with friends.

a staple in the kbbq scene. if you stand out in strathfield, it really says a lot.
jtb's wagyu isgreatwithout being too fatty. the deluxe set is enough to satisfy your beef cravings. their side dishes are alsogreatand comes in a huge variety. everything goes well together with the grilled meat.
the seafood pancake is also agreataddition to your grilled meat and so is their special marinated crabs.

korean bbq dinner!🍖🍗🐮

yesh finally get the chance to come back to jang ta bal. first time trying jang ta bal it was so pact and we had to wait around 30-40minutes, to wait for 10people. always feel like their meat is always fresh, service is pretty amazing.

it's alwaysgreatto eat korean bbq for dinner with many people around. for 5 people we ordered:
3beef set and 1 chicken marinate chili paste.

i love eating their appetizers before the meat comes, my favorite would be the crab (eating it raw or cooked taste amazing!) , salad, kimchi, and mash potatooes😋 also i love the chilli sauce when it is mixed with the cooked meat, and eating it altogether with the warm white rice 🍚 . veryyy yummyyyyy ah.

i don't normally order drinks here so i just drink tap water. when we receives our bill, it turned out to be cheaper than we use to, it was only $20 per person, last time we were here (8 of us) we had to pay $30 per person. the only different thing we order would be 1 more beef set and additional 3 apple juice. so, hmm we were so full and satisfied.

unfortunately, jang ta bal is packed during the weekends especially dinner time, and you can't book your table beforehand. also the place wasnt very comfortable, it's pretty hot and the seats and tables are just mehh. but the food is always amazing and satisfying which makes me come back for moree!

would i come back for more? always!

jang ta bal was very busy for a thursday night.

coming in, i figured this would be more expensive than other bbq joints from what other reviews had put out there. what to look forward to was the meat itself. that was very true - the meat was indeed of agreatquality. the problem for me was that the servings were too small. 20 dollars or so (usually more) for 2 strips of meat? you kidding me?

the pace of the night felt frantic and i think that had an effect on the waitstaff who we had to buzz sometimes up to 5 times to attend at our table. we also found that our requests were slow to be actioned.

the restaurant itself felt like a bit of a weird setup. you will understand when you walk in. i felt like i was in a mechanics garage. however i guess you could really care less once the food and alcohol kicks in.

a good experience but will need to conpare to others to really know whether i will be back. at this stage i have a feeling this will not become my go-to bbq.

in case you were wondering about cost, the price didn't get too steep. it was $40 a head and that was for a lot of soju, beer and enough meat to keep us satisfied! we did have a large group though so that kept cost down across the board. but to complicate thing further, half of our crew were sick and not drinking so there was potential for this to creep towards the 55-60 mark per head.

*****
take note that this is of course all based on my unqualified opinion!

my considerations: 1. food 2. value 3. service 4. atmosphere
