il grappolo

great food great location !. we live in the rozelle area and always support our local restaurants by going when we can. we were regulars at grapes which was there before il grappolo so we were keen to see how this new place was doing .
we went on a friday night although they only do byo tue -thursday but im happy to pay for drinks if the food is good .
when we got there we noticed the place was a bit bright as the lights were on full pelt which kind of lost the smoky setting that grapes had..the tables and chairs were also a little dated looking with no table covers however the staff were extra friendly and made us feel really welcome .
for our order we tried the linguine ai frutti di mare and the spaghetti gamberi with garlic bread which was really good ,thepastatasted freshly made and the seafood cooked really well and complemented beautifully with the flavours . the prices were a little bit more pricey but again the food was worth it .
overall the food was excellent , things they could change a little are the décor ,lighting and no byo on the weekends. i think they have some tough shoes to fill in grapes but im sure they will do a good job judging by the standard of the food it was delish !!

best italian place i've ever been. friendly staff, amazing food with a decent price.

had 2 pizzas, 1pastaand two greens.
- eggplant, artichoke and olive pizza
- pumpkin, ricotta and prosciutto pizza
- ragu pappardelle
- broccolini and beans

love the crispiness of the pizza crust and u can tell the freshness. the sauce of the ragu pappardelle was so rich and creamy but not overwhelming.

definitely will come back!

again, 3.5 stars out of 5 would be perfect! i had a pleasant night at il grappolo, i really enjoyed the prawnpasta& salt & pepper squid - accompanied by a glass of red of course! the only thing that was a let down was the service. it took a long time to be noticed/served when we arrived - we also saw 2 guests who were seated 20-25 minutes after us have their order taken before us as well as get their dishes before us.

absolutely superb homemade pastas with intense flavours and pizzas cooked just right - ragu, seafood and their special orrichiettepastaof the day were all amazing. veal scalppione with lemon was also very tender, everything was in generous portions, there was nothing to fault at all! also only $1.50pp cakeage and $6 per bottle byo wine. a great value local neighbourhood restaurant with a relaxed casual vibe. great place for a night out with friends!

if there was one dish you could try here, it must be the zucchini flowers. soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. however, the linguine was just pretty average and you could probably prepare them at home. i had tried italianpastarestaurants which grew basil in their garden and made fresh pesto sauce. that would be perfect.

have eaten here a few times and each time the food has been delicious, the service has been great. you can tell the gnocchi is homemade, just like my nonna used to make. thepastasauces are delicious, salads are fresh, calamari comes fresh and hot and my husband really likes the pizzas and he is fussy when it comes to pizza. the prices aren't the cheapest but they are reasonable, you don't mind paying for food that is good.  the restaurant has a nice atmosphere too. i have a feeling they have a lot of regulars. definitely recommend.

an awesome place in rozelle, always busy so don't forget to book if you want to make sure you get a table. they do great pizza and pasta, thepastadel mar is a must try. fantastic service as well, i can't count the number of times i have been there.

long long time observer; first time reviewer. a foodie who generally has eaten to much to be able to write & ends up fading into the deep realms of a food coma, last night was no exception. when out i would consider what rating i would bestow upon an establishment and how aligned my experience was relative to others. i must say as i write this review the flavors and textures of last night still resonate in my mouth. the (literally) sizzling prawn pot & the simplistic penne i couldn't fault. the burnt butter sage ravioli was great and reminded me of a similar dish i thoroughly enjoyed at pendolino (ravioli di magro con burro fuso). if i was to be ultra critical the filling was slightly gritty but was extremely generous and nonetheless delicious. my picky partner who claims to be an italian goddess due to her obsession with all things pasta couldn't fault anything except the rosemary potatoes which didn't satisfy her "crunch" factor. never mind her they were fluffy and flavorsome. if you like a bit of extra spice ask for the chilli oil & use with caution, a warning for the weak.

the service:
no fault, not in the slightest: orders were taken promptly, plates were cleared on time and replaced without request: attentive without being overbearing. 10/10 cant complain

as i wrap up i'm salivating at the very thought of coming back to this hidden gem, even though i made an oath to never over indulge, less then 24hrs ago. the thought crosses my mind, do i really want the word to get out?.. i feel the urge to delete every word i've written keep it a secret my stomach yells. my brain urges to do the write =] thing.

if you've made it this far i guess you know who came out on top, do me a favor and give this place a miss!!

fantastic. great food, great service.
came here for lunch on a sunday and was not disappointed.
rocket and pear salad - as good as a salad gets, fresh ingredients, well dressed with a nice balsamic.
spinach and ricotta ravioli - i'm no expert on ravioli but i thought thepastasheets should be thinner, but a nice flavour to it, tastes handmade.
prawn pizza - the standout for me. generously topped with very fresh prawns, hard to fault this pizza. base was nice and crispy without being too thick or thin.
waitresses were very attentive and friendly.
will definitely be back.

this place is truly amazing when it comes to decor and ambience it's just beautiful with tea lights and little flowers on the tables. i went there with a group of friends and the service was good. staff were friendly and attentive. we decided to just order pizzas and pasta. i would never order apastathere again. it was either to bland or too salty like the ragu came from a can. i was so disappointed with the pasta. on the brighter side the pizzas were so good and i will be going back for them. i saw main dishes of fish and lamb i think and the presentation was spot on!! worth giving this place a try!!

cracking little italian restaurant in the quiet streets of rozelle (not far off victoria road). we've been here a number of times and each time we are impressed. food is sensational,pastais great, pizza's are to die for. highly recommend the garlic pizza as an entree...yum!
