ichi-ban boshi

back to the future - we revisit our first ever ramen experience and wonder why we stopped visiting. it's summer, we want to avoid the city so head to bondi junction for a wander. after getting off the train past the mcdonalds with the best view in sydney, we head out to the mall on oxford st. we discover a huge new 100 yen style shop (although it's $2.50 here) and i'm instantly in heaven. shawn patiently waits outside and dreams of lunch. we've come to eat as well as shop, and we decide to give the re-located ichi-ban boshi a go. this was the first ramen joint we ate at in sydney, when it was further up oxford st in a smaller store. we remember having a really salty soup that made our tongues tingle, and we hardly ever went back. we had the same experience at the one outside the kinokinuya bookstore, and sought our ramen elsewhere. today we decide to give it another try. we start with a little dish of chasu rice, a little bowl of soft and tender pork and rice, a measly $3.50 and worth

like its sister restaurants in the city, this place is always packed. offering the same delicious menu, its good value and service is fast. i love the noodles here which is huge, warming, satisfying and comforting. i love the katsu which is so crunchy on the outside and tender inside. the curries are so tasty and on a nice day nice to sit outside.

yummy, yummy and yummy udon curry and super tasty food all around. for the cheap price i honestly didn't expect the amazing food that we got on our arrival. such a great find and will come back again and again in the near future.

got a tonkotsu this time and it was heavier than their other soups but still lightweight for my tastes. they excel at the rest of it though, with wonderful melty pork slices and a perfect egg. still a bit overpriced considering the basic setting and considering that menya can do better for less.

if you all don’t know me by now, i love japanese food! and i would say ichi-ban boshi is the perfect place for a casual dine in!because i love my spicy food— i had ordered spicy ramen, and it was so delicious! definitely ordering it again! the spice was tolerable! i reckon for this who can’t handle spicy can handle this spicy ramen!

ramen is so so (my tummy always has issues afterwards) and the chicken karaage was not a chicken karaage but rather a teriyaki one.

walked into this unassuming place for a quick lunch and was pleasantly surprised. i had a really nice pork and prawn wonton soup which really hit the spot. great value and i must come back to try the ramen in a cold winters day.

i tend to think japanese food places are either good at noodles or sushi. this place is mecca for ramen etc, their sweet and sour soup is great.

good place to go for a quick bite. you can customise all your dishes which is great for accomodating everyone’s needs. they cook the ramen on the spot for you so it comes out hot and fresh. easy and cheap as chips.

a long queue to start with, but didn't end up disappointed. takoyakis were tasty, but don't try the ginger aside unless you are a fan of it. the eel rice was nice though the miso soup was just ok. the restaurant was quite noisy and the seats were limited, while taking into account of their popularity, this was reasonable. in general, the food was cheap and delicious here.

staff: okay. no comment
food: absolutely amazing. always come back for the hot ramen
vibes: a bit packed and small. space between tables is way too narrow

i had some sort of high expectation of the place when i drove out 40 minutes to this homey restaurant. the worker at the front seemed to be very disinterested in what he was doing, however, it did not really phase me that much since i was here for the ramen. it wasn't the best ramen i've had but not the worst. it was very mediocre but was fair on the price. this place would be good for a quick meal in the local area but overall, nothing amazing.

they just 'okay'. way too salty for me. not really special either. just another okay ramen. end up letting husband to finish my ramen. just managed to finish less than half bowl.

cheap japanese eatery in bondi junction. we ordered at the counter before finding our seats inside. the ramen was nice, not the best, but it should do in terms of price. the soy sauce- soup was way too salty, so i just had my ramen and stole some of my partner’s soybean paste soup. i’d consider coming back here for a quick meal, but for ramen, maybe not my first preference.
