#15 stop in our texas monthly 50 bbq challenge.

ordered two baked potatoes w/ meat - one each in ham and brisket versions. also ordered jalapeno beans and a thing called a texas twinkie. they have free self-serve bananna pudding, peach cobbler, and soft-serve ice cream when dining in.

they have a rather nice condiments bar that has the tastiest smoked bacon bits you will ever run across. i am pretty sure they produce their own.

the baked potatoes were pretty good sized. they cut off a couple slices of ham, chopped it, and mounded it on top. it was a bunch of meat adding about $5.00 to the price so the total was $8.99. the brisket model was done the same way.

the jalapeno beans were quite tasty with enough seasoning to make you notice that these didn't come from some plastic pouch warmed in hot water.

the texas twinkie is a good sized jalapeno, seeded with the membrane removed, loaded with cream cheese and smoked brisket, wrapped up in bacon, rubbed with a sweet rub, and smoked. it ends up appearing like it is wrapped in candied bacon. all the flavors meld to produce a fantastic creation.

the free bananna pudding and peachcobblerwas much better than what we paid for it (grin). in fact it was good enough you might want to order some to take home. not a bad perk for dining in.

very good bbq. the ribs do fall off the bones as promised. the texas twinkies; jalapeños stuffed with brisket, and cream cheese and wrapped in bacon are amazing. i liked the corn bread better than the roll. the mac n cheese was delicious and the mashed potatoes had bacon and cheese. yum! the peachcobblerfor dessert was very good too. it was worth the 45 minute wait at 3 pm on a saturday.

lynnc. was there for lunch today at 12:30. wanted baked potato. they were out. i then ordered two meat plate. carver had a little piece of brisket end. it looked dry with no fat on it, so i asked for fresher brisket. he looked at me with a disgusted look and said he would look for another brisket. then i told him i wanted ribs as my second meat. he told me i would have to wait as they didn't have any ready at that time, but when they were ready he would have them delivered to my table. again with that look. i was walking away when another carver showed up with ribs. he cut three little end pieces of the ribs and served them to me again with that look. my wife and i had been counting the ribs other diners received and they were receiving 4 to 5 ribs on their orders. i asked the cashier about this and she told me that it goes by weight. the carver never used a scale. went to get peachcobblerat about 1:14 and they were out of it and banana pudding as well. i asked an employee and she said they would not be serving any more.
i will say the ribs and brisket were ok.
you would think that on a friday they would be better prepared. there was a line out the door when we left.
as for the attitude of the carver that was just wrong.
we will think twice about returning.

great food - great experience. we stopped by due to the line all the out the front door. it was totally worth the wait! the meat is charred perfectly outside and nice and juicy. very well could be the best bbq in dallas. ribs are to die for! next time we go i am getting a full rack and not sharing lol. order the sliced beef lean though, it was fatty and we had to get it replaced, but they fixed us right up and have servers that check on you throughout the meal. great teamwork and the banana pudding and peachcobblerwere yum. do not miss out on this place!

will order bar b q the next time. this restaurant is located on the north side of the downtown area of mckinney. there is parking on the lot plus there is a drive thru. upon entering the restaurant you will find a self service line where you order bar b q or catfish. we ordered the catfish. for five very small pieces the price is $10.95 which we consider somewhat on the high side. you serve yourself two side dishes and frankly the serving line was not all that full of items and some were almost gone even though it was only 6pm. the green beans were loaded with salt; however the cold slaw and potato salad were good. you seat yourself in a table located in what we thought was a maze of rooms. after eating there is a desert bar which had pudding and soft serve ice cream. there was to have been peachcobblerhowever we were told it was being prepared. after waiting some 15 minutes thecobblershowed up and we wished we had just moved on. have no idea what thecobblerwas topped with. all in all we did no have the best dining experience tonight. the rest room could stand some cleaning as could the parking lot.

people who like this place haven't had real bbq. their meat is average but the sides are gross and whatever they are trying to pass as peachcobbleris inedible. if you want real bbq, drive over to ft worth and eat at coopers.

turkey is hit or miss. the first time i had the turkey, it was wonderful - the best i've had. the second time, it wasn't very good. so, i'd have to say that the turkey is hit or miss. so far, everything else i've had has been excellent and this is our go-to place for bbq. i like it way better than the big chain places. not only is the bbq good, it's nice to be supporting a local business owner. thecobbleralmost always looks terrible but tastes really good. i like the mac-n-cheese but it isn't like the box stuff or the little styrofoam can mac-n-cheese. i generally get the green beans.
