arrived at around 11am on wednesday and waited for about 20 minutes to get a table for two.

ordered egg benny and crab meat scrambled, both tasted pretty good. the crab one was a great mix of savory & chilly flavor, the scrambled egg was very soft with bread under it and crab meat within it, and the croissant was so crispy!!

as for the drinks, we had roseberry soda pop and mango & passionfruit one. nothing special though.

staff there were very friendly. ( ´͈ ᵕ `͈ )◞♡

my partner and i visited this place on sunday morning around 10am and only had to wait 15-20mins (worth it!). the place is amazing to look at and sit amongst, being so busy. staff were so friendly and kind! we ordered the “smashing pumpkins” and “egg benny” along with a classic flat white and a mango + passionfruit soda pop. these were both so amazing to eat and do recommend. the egg benny is not the usual eggs bene. we also ended up ordering the “monkey business” to share as this also came highly recommended, along with a iced thai milk tea. our neighbours sitting next to us ended up doing the same and ordered this to share as well, as it looked so good! we couldn’t fault anything and managed to demolish everything and were thoroughly satisfied with our choices! we will definitely be back again if in melbourne in the future! we left around 11:30am and there was quite the line down the street, so would go early if you don’t want to be waiting longer than half an hour!

humble rays is one of the most hyped up brunch place in melbourne. i have been there several times, and it never disappoints! it’s known to have a long line, i would recommend going there on weekdays. the place itself is very cozy and definitely instagram-worthy!

egg benny
price: $19.5
taste: 🌝🌝🌝🌝🌜
the pork belly is very tender and juicy and everything goes really well together. the sauce definitely took the dish to the next level & the poached egg adds a really nice touch of flavour

crab meat scramble
price: $19.5
taste: 🌝🌝🌝🌝
one of the best seller here! the croissant-crab meat-scrambled egg combo was bomb. the croissant has a nice crispy texture, and the scrambled egg was fluffy. it has a slight kick of spiciness, but definitely not overpowering. i think the crab meat flavour could’ve been enhanced a little bit. but the overall dish was really good.

panna cotta granola
price: $15
taste: 🌝🌝🌝🌝
was very excited when i saw hojicha on the menu. you can taste the hojicha flavour from the panna cotta. the granola and fruits add more texture—which was really good, definitely worth the try!

french toast forever
price: $19
taste: 🌝🌝🌝🌜
been seeing this dish all over instagram, definitely insta-worthy! the french toast itself was fluffy, and the cream cheese was light, not too sweet. however, i prefer their other dish more. i was still a good dish, though.

we visited here on saturday early morning around 8.30. the cafe was already busy! they have both indoor and outdoor area. we love their interior design, we feel very relaxing as they have plants every corner.

we had duck congee and crab meat scramble, they were delicious! the latte was great too.

another good thing about this place is that their service was fast and the staff was attentive.

- good old humble rays, brings memories back to the uni days. excellent asian fusion style, vibrant ambience, nice service. minus the wait that you will probably have to suffer down at hardware.
- hojicha latte is a good twist for chai lovers, perhaps a little too sweet but i’m sure that can be fixed.
- pork belly can taste very rich and heavy, so i’d probably choose something without it when you’re not that hungry. the zesty crab meat scramble perhaps! just the right amount of spiciness.

first of all, if i could give this place a 4.2 rating, that’s what i would give. i absoluuuutely love the interior of this place and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to go for a non-traditional styled brunch.

service: 10/10.
the staff here are always super friendly and accommodating, and i would say that it’s one of the stand outs of this place.

atmosphere: 10/10.
what more can i say? super aesthetic, super cute and great for photos to put onto instagram ;)

food: 7/10.
although i do like the food, i’d have to -3 because of how some of the dishes taste. with the eggs benny and pancake dish with banana, i find that each bite tastes more or less the same. and by the time i’m halfway through the dish, i end up getting bored of it and want something else? i don’t want to be mean because it is a great place. but honestly the food doesn’t stand out all that much to me. in saying that, i’d describe this place as an asian take on your typical brunch cafe. drinks here are good though - i’d give that a 10/10!

location: 10/10.
central. 10 minutes walk away from melbourne central station, or a 2 minute tram + 2 minute walk.

despite the food being the let down of this review, i still end up going here when i feel like having brunch. everything else is enough to make me a regular!

ordered
-----------------------
drinks:
1. hojicha latte - very roasty and nice
2. ginger tumeric latte - needed a bit more milk/heaviness
3. chai latte - tasty

food:
1. crab meat scramble - would be nice to decrease the size of the croissant and add in a side salad maybe
2. egg & bacon - the fried egg white became a bit overwhelming and the ham/bacon wasn't too spectacular
3. egg benny - potato croquette was good and pork belly was ok

dessert:
1. french toast - star of the meal! the fairy floss, toast, and ice cream were all delicious

presentation of the dishes were amazing and the decor of the restaurant was nice. however our waitress did forget that we requested soy milk with the chai latte and our order of french toast at the end.

our family of four arrived on sunday morning and had to wait 15-20 mins to get a table. the manager and wait staff were very courteous and had us seated comfortably shortly after. the menu is extensive and humble rays requires revisiting to fully capture the breadth of what is there to offer.

our orders comprised of kids pancakes which were greeted with gusto, the mushroom on toast was divine with the cheesy parmesan taste to it abd the poached eggs were to perfection.

the red velvet skookie was the icing on the cake with a variety of flavours on a white chocolate cookie which had us in gasps. the sunny side up juice had the perfect balance of coconut and pineapple as well.

what a delightful surprise and definitely a place to go back to... that menu is endless and needs further exploring.

humble rays opened in carlton late 2016. although not situated at any busy shops, it’s very close to melbourne university and can imagine this place being a popular hang out spot for university students.

we had to wait in line for 30-35 minutes on a sunday afternoon (around 12.30pm). it wasn’t too bad as the staff advised us how long it’ll take to get a table of three. they estimated the wait time well, so we weren’t disappointed.

c chose the egg benny – ginger biased pork belly. miso and potato korokke, dukkah, poached egg with yuzu hollandaise, $19.50. there was also chilli bacon jam and salad to accompany the dish. their pork belly was a thick cut, a lot to finish. j ordered the same, but added smoked salmon for additional $6.50. he struggled to finish the main dish and the smoked salmon. this dish is good value for just under $20 compared to other brunch dishes out there. their flavours all worked – we all enjoyed their creation of yuzu hollandaise – light with a bit of sourness to balance out the heavy protein...

i ordered the egg white & bacon, $19.50 (dairy-free, gluten-free). it was beautiful… the folded crispy egg white was so light & airey that it was very easy to eat with the edamame, quinoa and multigrain rice mixed with dark soy. it was definitely an asian fusion dish. bacon was grilled perfectly and the chilli mayo had just the right amount to dip the egg white together with the bacon and rice. cherry tomatoes were needed to add the sweet freshness to the dish, otherwise i would have felt the dish was too heavy for my post workout brunch...
