the search for a new restaurant with manglorean cuisine ends. this place is too good and under-hyped. friendly staff and finger licking tasty food. i hadchickenghee roast, kerala parotha, manglorean idli and neer dosa. manglorean idli is a must have.

tom's restaurant has its roots since 1983 in bangalore. they serve some authentic mangalorean food in the city. though i'm nowhere near in understanding the culinary arts of the mangalore region, i totally loved the food served here!

i visited the brigade road outlet, located in the busiest streets yet gives you the vintage feels. i started my binging session with "chicken ghee roast", "prawn pepper fry", "pork dry fry", and, "mutton sukkah". the prawns and mutton dish won my tastebuds. the blend of flavors was deliciously peculiar in all the dishes.

well, my visit was a pure non-vegetarian one so can't really comment on the vegetarian cuisines. for the main course, i had a "kori roti (chicken curry with rice wafers)", this was something new for me. a "seer curry (fish curry) and plain rice", and a "tom's specialchickenwith appam". mangalorean food is all about the coconut, just the way i like. non-veg food prepared in coconut curry is an absolute love for me. in the dessert, i had a "choco caramel ganache" topped with ice-cream and a show-stopper "creme brulee", it was classic and the yummiest i have had.

the ambiance is an old-style and a spacious one, with the seatings complementing it. i loved the use of glass all around, making way for the natural light in the day time. this is for sure one of my favorite eat-outs in bangalore. i shall definitely visit multiple times!

we have been yearning to dine at tom's for quite sometime.last week, after a movie at garuda, a group of foodie friends, finally made it to tom's.
the restaurant itself has an old world charm.the furniture has resemblance to the colonial era. apparently, it's about 60 years old.
the place is known for its mangalorean cuisine and hence we stuck to ordering what tom's is famous for.
we ordered the mutton ghee roast, bangda masala , prawn curry ,squid pepper fry , mutton ghee roast biriyani , tom's specialchickencurry , mutton stew , beef sukkah and pork sarpathal.
a huge spread indeed ,but considering we were 7 of us we wiped the dishes clean in no time.we kept on ordering fresh mango juices along with this food
the mutton stew and the ghee roast really stood out from the rest.
overall a wonderful experience.
albeit,i felt the food could have been tad warmer. most of the dishes were pretty cold. this kind of food,in my opinion would have tasted better, if the food was warmer.we got one serving of appam, by the time we tried ordering the next round , we were told it's over. it goes on to prove , how popular it is. .
the service was very fast and crew was nice.

it's one authentic place, we just ordered 3 dishes and we were totally satisfied with it... we order appam, chickenbuffath, andchickenghee roast biryani.
appams were big in size and too soft and spongy, chickenbuffath a spicy curry dish perfectly spiced, chickenwas so tender and it tasted really good.
then the biryani was way too good. that ghee taste in that ghee roast is a beautiful feeling. i would give a 5/5 for all the 3 dishes.
price is also affordable.. i dint find it pricy.. for 2 people it wud be around 800 easily... but for the quantity n quality they provide.. thats worth it.
do try their ghee roast biryani.

a classic old school, with a legacy for the most authentic mangalorean catholic experience.
they are now open in a new location with a great makeover, staying true to their identity.
the entryway is an arched glass façade, with a bit of a french feel, but the moment you enter, the warmth of traditional athangudi tiles and the simple wooden seating welcomes you with a tinge of nostalgia.

we tried their specially curated menu, which for starters included the prawn pepper fry, which had a distinctive coastal flavour to it.
next, we tried their mutton sukkah, the exotic mangalore dish, the dessicated coconut and the roisted spices were a perfect combination for the juicy meat.
thechickenghee roast, another classic dish, had a perfect blend of tanginess to the ghee roasted tender chicken.

for the main course, we tried their specialchickencurry and appam, the hot fluffy appams, melted in our mouth with the heavenlychickencurry, that also had a tinge of sweetness.
kori roti( rice wafers) with kori gussi ( mangalorechickencurry) was a crispy snack we all fully enjoyed.
the tangy coconut based curry, also went well when paired with the beer dosa, another mangalore speciality.
we also tried the traditional seer fish curry with rice, the coconut based tangy curry was soul soothing.
for desserts,we tried crème brulé, which has a caramelized sugar coated top layer and layers of spongy custard.
their choco caramel ganache was also good.

the other must tries here are, ghee roasts, sukkahs and biryanis.
also, drop by on a sunday morning for fluffy appams paired with stew.

i had been to tom's, a long time ago, probably in 2014. they were offering breakfast buffet for walk-in guests' as well, since it was mainly for the those guests', who were staying there. also, it was only on the weekends, that they were offering it. on weekdays, they only had à la carte . at a price of rs 150, the buffet was extremely pocket friendly, for any person. the spread was quite decent by any means. they hadchickensausages, appam withchickenstew and other items, which i am unable to recollect, at this point in time. i might have been there, around 5 times and each time, i was very happy with the food and their service. in 2015, when i called them, they said they don't serve buffet's, however, no qualms, as i thank them for giving me an opportunity to taste their food. they are in the hotel business since 1983, which means that they successfully withstood the test of time. all the best for the future.

for an authentic "mangalore style food" this is the best restaurant to be. located on brigade road and serves the super delicious food 🙂
they serve food with love , hot from kitchen and an extensive variety to gorge on. we tried the seer fish tawa fry - served hot on the table it was well marinated, nicely cooked and it was so delicious. mutton ghee roast - it was excellent , mutton was so soft and every bite the ghee flavor was giving the treat. appam - first time i tried appam overhere i became fan it was so tasty. neer dosa i just want to say wow it was so soft and yummy. for main course we tried - bangada masala with kerala parota it was equally good and mouthwatering. rice items we tried like - ghee roastchickenbiryani - i guess one of the best biriyani "never before and never after"chickenfried rice was quite tasty. what was were my favorite dessert. caramel custrad are to die for , roasted - sweet syrup of custrad made us have second.

a pure authentic and highly mouthwatering mangalore cusine is what this restaurant delivers.

must try dishes are like :
. appam
. neer dosa
. mutton ghee roast
. seer fish tawa fry
.chickenfried rice
. ghee roastchickenbiryani
. caramel custrad

ambience is good, service is quick and staff are very attentive. overall my meal experience was tasty and delicious.

hotel tom's restaurant has been synonymous with quality and authentic mangalorean cuisine for a long time now. their legacy speaks for themselves.

this particular restaurant situated in brigade road provides you with a kind of "old british era" vibe with dark green and white coloured seating arrangement and decor. the place looks quite great and better, compared to their other restaurant situated in koramangala.

coming to the service, the manager was quite friendly and helpful. he made sure that we had a good experience over there. furthermore, the waiters were very humble and well behaved.

lastly, the food was quite great. not only the starters but also the main course and the desserts were amazing.

the dishes i personally loved were:

bangada ambot tik curry
basa fish kabab
tom's specialchickencurry
prawns chilly
chocolate ganache
créme brulee

in a nutshell, if you want to try authentic mangalorean cuisine, this should be at the top of your bucket list.

definitely worth a visit!
