took a two week tour of the ne last summer. this is the only place we ate twice. the lobsta roll andonionrings were fantastic. if you like beer with your lobsta you can bring your own. loved the whole experience.

the other, genuine freeport. this crowded, cash-only spot by the town dock is a fried seafood and lobster pound treasure. the fried fish sandwich is outstanding: three huge blocks of flaky haddock falling out of the bun. i've enjoyed the fried calamari and chowder, as well. skip theonionrings, which seem to be fried in puffy doughnut dough, and get cornbread which is monumental in size and taste. i've never felt more in maine.

"worth the trip" we returned after 3 years and enjoyed it just much. clam chowder and crab cakes delish! however did not like theonionrings. it was like pouring grease in my veins. they are so big and greasy! the lobster was sweet and the blueberry pie a local favorite. five lobster claws up!

busy location but worth it. the type of place you bring that out of town friend or relative to experience shore side maine seafood. at first glance with harraseeket lobster pound's typical throngs of people, it does appear to be a tourist trap. do not mind all this and be patient and the food will really deliver: whole belly clams are giants, hefty gnarled spheres of golden crust enveloping mouthfuls of ocean nectar. on the side, you wantonionrings: puffy circles of brittle sweet batter around a hoop ofonionthat still has crunch. clam cakes are good, too, their puffy dough holding dozens of little nuggets of marine goodness. the chowder is wonderful, but best of all is the lobster roll, served splayed open in a broad cardboard dish and packed with fresh lobster-sweet chunks of meat. have it with some of the bestonionrings in the area. in addition to the good food lobster's are available at the 'pound' to be packed to go! do note that seating is outside with awning covered picnic tables. cash only. this is a seasonal business which opens around memorial day weekend to middle of october.
