in our quest for good kebabs and based on its grand location, right at eminonu and at the mouth of spice market we entered hamdi hoping for one of the best experience. the staff was courteous and gave us a preview of their mezze items. we chose hummus and muahmmara (a pate of crushed walnuts, tahini, stale bread, garlic and lemon). not bad for a starter although we had better hummus in other places before. next came yogurt yuvalama, a hot soup of chick peas, mince meat balls and yogurt which i thought was not bad. the real let downs were their urfa kebab (a minced lamb and veal kebab) and lahmacun. the kebab was dry and lahmacun lacked the zing as compared to other places in istanbul where we had eaten these. at hamdi, the prices are high and the food not at all value for money. an over grown restaurant in a prominent location run by a battery of staff where the owners have probably lost touch with their flavors and their customers. ordered a dessert which lacked all flavors and the green just felt like color with no pistachios. they need to up their flavors
