turkish styled ice cream shop hakiki certainly lives up to the food standards in newtown. a range of exotic flavours with a rich and creamy taste makes you want to come back and try more flavours.

if you haven't tried turkish ice cream, now is your chance! delicious and as promised, very thick and couldn't melt! probably one of the few best non gelato ice cream places in sydney! haven't tried the coffee, tea or baklava, but shall be back!

what a great vibe hakiki has. it's almost like a night spot that you could sit at for a long time. the displays are stunning.

i was interested to try turkish ice cream. the noticeable difference is that it has a more sticky consistency but yet is so creamy. i went for the strawberries and cream. the ribbon of strawberry that ran through it was so refreshing. i did try the turkish delight flavour also and it was so authentic and not a super sweetened version.

i would love to come back to try the baklava because it looks incredible!

have you ever heard of mastic ice cream? ... me neither! but since visiting hakiki turkish ice cream & baklava, i was so interested in finding out more about turkish ice cream and i came across these words. mastic ice cream or dondurma is made of mastic or arabic gum and a salep from dried orchid powder and these are what make the ice cream's stretchy and chewy texture. ...oh, did i just bore you?

other than the texture that is definitely not your usual ice cream texture, i also love the flavour. you'll find your favourite turkish desserts flavour here like turkish delight and baklava, but you'll also find your classic and familiar flavour like chocolate. and once in a while if you're lucky, you get to see the guy hand-churning the ice cream inside the lids next to the ice cream counter.

the place is very intimate with not many seats inside and outside. so, i recommend to take away rather than eating in. unless you want to enjoy their delightful turkish coffee that they serve with turkish delight on the side. or having your moment while enjoying what i think is the best baklava in sydney that i've tasted up to this point! then, yes, it's so worth to wait for your table.

following my meal at salmon & bear, i decided to work off some calories and strolled along the main street in search of dessert. having never ventured this far into enmore, i had to rely on trusty old googlemaps to navigate my way to hakiki turkish ice cream, which has been on my to-go wishlist for over a year.

hakiki turkish ice cream also sells baklava, turkish delight, and other sweets as well but the main drawcard here is their ice cream...

exotic middle eastern flavoured ice creams. melon and ricotta and the pomegranate are highly recommended, delightful creations. service could be friendlier behind the counter!

delicious gelato served by the grumpiest person behind the counter. it doesn't make a great combo for the best gelato parlour in newtown. the melon & feta gelato is the dream turkish gelato. if you don't mind the occasional grumpster, it is a nice place to have gelato.

not nice.
came here after the line for cow and moon was around the corner and beyond.
had the baklava and cocoa flavours. it was just wrong texturally. pasty and chewy and just not nice.
didn't like it. won't be back. 👎

hakiki turkish ice cream and baklava, a lovely dessert place in newtown serves their infamous stretchy ice cream! we tried the roasted pistachio ice cream ($5) and although we did quite like it, we found possibly that it was a bit overpriced and over hyped. it did not stretch as much as it has been claimed and the assortment of flavours we found to be limiting. the texture is also very interesting and it is definitely more chewy and less melt in the mouth. we recommend everyone to give this place a try and enjoy a different experience with the traditional ice cream!

i've never had turkish ice cream before here, but i'm glad i decided to stop after dinner. it's busy at night, so it might be hard to get a table. however, we've been able to find a spot when we came a bit earlier in the evening on the second visit. i've tried a few of their flavours, but the strawberry watermelon and melon & feta are my favourites!!!! the staff are pretty nice as well.
