thisicecream place has been on my list to go for well over a year. turkishicecream is definitely different due to the way they make it and the way they freeze it. it's quite hard to scoop but once in your mouth it's noticecold and melts easily. it generally has a sticker sort of texture but still creamy. one of those things you just have to try for yourself. i loveicecream which doesn't melt as fast-less pressure to take a quick photo lol.

ambitious venture, but definitely paying off!. we stumbled upon hakiki by accident on our way to a show at the enmore theatre, and we were glad we did. the owners were so incredibly friendly and happy to answer our questions, and were keen for us to try all the flavours before choosing our cups/cones. i loved the stringiness of theicecream, and the flavours were incredible. we will certainly be back to try all the others, and any new ones that turn up!

they took the time to explain the process of making theicecream, including the use of salep (orchid root), and there were such unique flavours like the traditional maras, melon and feta, grape molasses and tahini, and my favourite so far, cacao and sour cherry.

very ambitious opening up on a strip of road that has other famousicecream/gelato shops, but you will definitely be competitive and we hope they stick around for a long time! :)

located just a short, ten-minute walk from newtown station, hakiki is a great place to stop by or meet up for dessert with friends. it’s a family-owned dessert bar that makes delights like traditional turkishicecream, baklava, turkish coffee, teas and more!. we first visited hakiki when they first opened in 2015. now they seem to be busy every night and it can be hard to find a seat! it’s good to see that despite becoming more busy, their range has stayed the same.

i was actually on my way to find where cow & moon was until my friend pointed out if this was the turkishicecream place i've been wanting to try for ages. i squealed - it was.

i'm a huge fan of middle eastern food and i's seen countless videos on youtube about the stretchy textures of turkishicecream - it was something i've been wanting to try! it didn't disappoint. i went to during a quiet time at 4 or 5pm and tried some flavours. the feta & melon is what i'll recommend to people. it's a perfect combination of sweet and sour. it's beautiful. my friend and i had 4 flavours so we could sample a few. the turkish delight was sweet.

the service was ace! the counter person was helpful and patience!

hakiki on enmore road specialises in turkish treats such as baklava and turkish delights (which is as far as my knowledge in turkish treats goes), and apparently only opened not even 2 weeks ago. we saw some very unusualicecream flavours out of the total 14 on display. the more interesting ones include:

the consistency is definitely not your typicalicecream texture. it’s similar but also still different to gelato. it’s nice to see they’re not changing it to western palettes (at least thats what i think). i personally am not a fan of it, or how the flavors compliment the texture. i just haven’t eaten anything like it, so it’s odd but worth a try!

higher viscosity. saw jugernauts' writeup so came as part of a multi-part wander through newtown and enmore (again). quite a bit of interest in this place as it's something different. had the medium cup for $6 - had 2 flavours, the burnt caramel and couldn't go past the turkish delight. there are a handful of tables inside and people don't tend to hang around long. it's certainly more thick and gummy than any othericecream i've eaten. took quite a bit to eat it but personally would prefer more well known options in this field. staff were very friendly and smiling and efficient in cleaning up the tables.

haikiki is a popularicecream parlour which offers classic turkishicecream or dondurma, baklava and an assortment of turkish delights. turkish ice-cream differs from the typical italian gelato in its thick and elastic texture. hence, it does not melt easily and dirty your hands (oh great!!)

i tried their version of pistachio and burnt caramel and they tasted thick and creamy. hakiki is a worthy alternative to the nearby cow & the moon, gelato blue and messina. i will go back for their turkish delights and baklava flavours 😋😋

enmore is my favourite place for ethnic and artisan food because they rarely disappoint (look at my ratings and the spot ons!). and enmore/newtown is fast becoming the dessert paradise in sydney 😆😆

it was time to order myicecream. i had a look at theicecream cabinet and didn’t recognise many of the flavours. sure it looked likeicecream. but i never had flavours like grape molasses and tahini, melon and feta cheese. so i did what any reasonable person would do. i asked the staff “what do you recommend”.

turkishicecream has a very different texture compared to your regularicecream or gelato. it’s a little firmer and actually slightly chewy which i really enjoyed. got the burnt caramel and turkish delight which is perfect for those who love the taste of rosewater.

hakiki turkishicecream and baklava newtown is located on the eastern end of enmore road (near oportos/ stinking bishops ) and one of the newest edition to the stretch. it’s becoming way more foodie centric than king street. we’re kind of going ahhh as we walked in and perused their selection.

best baklava i’ve ever tasted in my life! just the way i like it....not sweet. they have lots of different flavors. two fav baklava flavor were the cherry and chocolate, yum! cherry baklava was a little tart so it was perfect balance with the sweetness, yummmmm! pistachio flavor one is mild. all were nice and moist.

ice cream was very good, flavor was turkish coffee, it was more flavorful than the othericecream flavors that we tasted there, tasted like coffee with a little bit of chocolate. unfortunately othericecream flavors we tried here( as samples ) tasted very bland but i did like how they weren’t sweet. string like texture was awesome! i liked the texture more than normal westernicecream.

also, we tried the turkish coffee and didn’t like it cuz it was too bitter and too strong for us, but it was my first time trying turkish coffee so i don’t kno if this was considered good but it’s not for me, it didn’t have milk in it , was grainy, and it is serve with a little cup of luke warm water, the kettle and tiny cup were super cute tho!!

vibe was chill. we liked sitting outside on the little chairs. window bar seat looked nice too. the inside was quite small so there’s not many seats. we were lucky to have gotten an outside table seat :-) decor is very cute and turkish looking.

the service was not friendly, it was just average, no smiles, but no issues. problem: i didn’t like how the guy handing meicecream samples would lick his finger cuz some of theicecream dripped on his finger during scooping samples, he did this multiple times and it made me feel like that’s not sanitary ewwww :-( i was very grossed out by this, sadly. i hope this doesn’t happen again.

location is a bit of a walk from the train station. area didn’t seem super safe, was a little desolate when we went on sunday night, so i suggest going during the day time rather than after dark (just a tip for the cautious ladies out there, like myself). we will definitely eat here again cuz we loved the baklava and would like to try their other desserts :-)
