this ice cream place has been on my list to go for well over a year. turkish ice cream is definitely different due to the way they make it and the way they freeze it. it's quite hard to scoop but once in your mouth it's not ice cold and melts easily. it generally has a sticker sort oftexturebut still creamy. one of those things you just have to try for yourself. i love ice cream which doesn't melt as fast-less pressure to take a quick photo lol.

turkish ice cream has a very differenttexturecompared to your regular ice cream or gelato. it’s a little firmer and actually slightly chewy which i really enjoyed. got the burnt caramel and turkish delight which is perfect for those who love the taste of rosewater.

best baklava i’ve ever tasted in my life! just the way i like it....not sweet. they have lots of different flavors. two fav baklava flavor were the cherry and chocolate, yum! cherry baklava was a little tart so it was perfect balance with the sweetness, yummmmm! pistachio flavor one is mild. all were nice and moist.

ice cream was very good, flavor was turkish coffee, it was more flavorful than the other ice cream flavors that we tasted there, tasted like coffee with a little bit of chocolate. unfortunately other ice cream flavors we tried here( as samples ) tasted very bland but i did like how they weren’t sweet. string liketexturewas awesome! i liked thetexturemore than normal western ice cream.

also, we tried the turkish coffee and didn’t like it cuz it was too bitter and too strong for us, but it was my first time trying turkish coffee so i don’t kno if this was considered good but it’s not for me, it didn’t have milk in it , was grainy, and it is serve with a little cup of luke warm water, the kettle and tiny cup were super cute tho!!

vibe was chill. we liked sitting outside on the little chairs. window bar seat looked nice too. the inside was quite small so there’s not many seats. we were lucky to have gotten an outside table seat :-) decor is very cute and turkish looking.

the service was not friendly, it was just average, no smiles, but no issues. problem: i didn’t like how the guy handing me ice cream samples would lick his finger cuz some of the ice cream dripped on his finger during scooping samples, he did this multiple times and it made me feel like that’s not sanitary ewwww :-( i was very grossed out by this, sadly. i hope this doesn’t happen again.

location is a bit of a walk from the train station. area didn’t seem super safe, was a little desolate when we went on sunday night, so i suggest going during the day time rather than after dark (just a tip for the cautious ladies out there, like myself). we will definitely eat here again cuz we loved the baklava and would like to try their other desserts :-)

on a cold winter night a large crowd outside an ice cream parlour means something big is happening inside! being my inquisitive self i had to see what i was missing out on.
it was the new hakiki turkish ice cream & baklava shop on enmore road, newtown which has only been open one month.

nev bagriyanik and his wife zeyneb have brought authentic turkish delights, sweets and ice cream to sydney!

on entering the store, i crane my neck to see the variety of colourful ice creams displayed in the bain-marie over the waiting crowd. all the ice cream here is handmade and freshly churned by nev himself.
every so often you can watch him churn the ice cream using a long stick - using the customary method of pulling and stretching, a technique still used today by street venders all over turkey.

nev told me that he uses a goat's milk and cow's milk blend which is mixed with a wild orchid root called "salep". the "salep" gives the ice cream its uniquetexturethat is thicker than normal ice cream. the ice cream is also very stretchy and yes you can chew it!

the traditional flavours are to die for as well as the experimental ones. they have turkish delight, caramelized fig and walnut, burnt caramel, roasted pistachio, melon and feta, pomegranate and luscious chocolate. the flavours all change frequently as nev makes new creations.

it is good that you can taste test before you buy. i started off with just the base used in all the ice creams - a goat's milk and cow's milk blend. that was so creamy and tasty on its own.
after trying a few more samples i settled on the turkish delight, caramelized fig and walnut and melon and feta combination.

it is the only ice cream that you can eat with a knife and fork. the traditional way of eating it is on a plate. this will cost you just $8, but most customers choose to eat their choices in a cup or a cone.
prices are 1 scoop $4, 2 scoops $6 or 3 scoops for $8.

next my eyes light up as i see the baklava section! nev's wife, zeyneb makes all the baklava, sweets and cookies for the shop. i sampled on this visit the sour cherry baklava. how delicious was this morsel. no wonder the trays are looking rather empty. customers are buying up in large quantities.

zayneb also makes all the turkish delights available to purchase. i thought there was only one kind until now - the rose one. you can try other flavours as well like pistachio, hazelnut and molasses. i've got my weekend bag of sweets for the couch later on tonight!

nev kindly brings out some turkish coffee to sample. it is made by the traditional turkish method, with a metal pot, heated on hot sand and simmered until the coffee is rich, dark and full of flavour. you can enjoy it straight or tweak the coffee to your liking with milk, cardamom, cinnamon or mastic options, all served in beautiful turkish silverware.

turkish apple tea, sour cherry and fresh pomegranate juices are also popular choices if the coffee is not for you.

hakiki is a very popular addition to the sydney ice cream scene and the crowds are making it obvious that they love it and there is no need to travel now to istanbul to get real turkish ice cream and sweets.

this was my first time trying turkish ice cream and it was definitely different compared to regular gelato. thetexturehas more elasticity and i think takes longer to melt. i enjoyed playing with the stretchiness and of course, eating it 😋

i got 2 scoops to share for $7.9 - the baklava and the watermelon, strawberry, rosewater. getting the baklava flavour was a no brainer since it is a delicious dessert that i love. they even had chunks in it! the other flavour was light and refreshing to balance the sweet pastry flavour.

turkish ice cream has got an uniquetextureand very different from the usual ice cream or gelato. i have heard about it for a long time and always wanted to try it, so i was super excited to find out about this shop in sydney. ordered double scoop ice cream, some sweets and turkish delights. love the ice cream, especially the tahini flavor, however some of the desserts were a bit on the sweet side for me. overall, it has been an interesting experience.

turkish icecream is different from gelato or western icecream. it stretches and it doesn’t easily melt. the reason why it doesn’t melt is because salep, a dried powdered root from an orchid that grows in southern turkey is added to it. this powder also gives the icecream it’s extra creamytexturewhich i just loved. hakiki’s flavours are extensive and include very turkish flavours such as baklava, tahini, pomegranate & raspberry. they also serve teas and coffees and turkish pastries which i want to go back for. #hakiki

come here for one thing and one thing only and that's the melon and feta. ice cream here have a thicktextureunique to turkish ice cream that can only be described as chewy deliciousness. thetextureaccentuates the flavour as you actually have to eat the ice cream, instead of having it melt as soon as it hits your mouth and swallowing.

the melon and feta really makes clear that sweet and salty is truly one of the simplest and best pairings in the culinary world. this is the stuff of dreams, i've tried some of the other flavours but could care less about them. baklava and turkish delight here is fine but i've had better out west. unique, craveable, cheap and accessible. it's simply just one of the single best items to eat in sydney.

strawberry & peach : 😍 amazing
burnt caramel : 😍 amazing
melon & feta : 😍 amazing
turkish coffee : 😍 amazing
baklava : 😁 great

if you’re looking for good quality traditional turkish ice cream then hakiki is the place to go. their ice creams have that truetextureand they also experiment with lots of different flavour combinations. my favourite had to be the burnt caramel. it was insanely addicting. a little overpriced, not going to lie, but if you really want good quality then you’d best be prepared to pay for it.

traditional turkish ice cream and desserts. the ice cream had its own uniquetexturewhich is thick and a little chewy. for me there is a wide variety of flavour but some where a hit and miss. the turkish coffee isn’t very strong and the baklava pastry pieces are nice, but the ice cream overall didn’t have much fragrance.
i do however recommend the melon and feta, the burnt caramel, turkish delight and raspberry. they’re flavour duo and very refreshing.
would go back to try other traditional desserts.

it's easy to be tempted by the well-known and extremely popular cow & moon which is located down the road from hakiki, but holy macaroni - just writing this review is making me crave the deliciousness that is the salted caramel and coffee ice-cream from here ($7.50 for 2 scoops). coming from someone who doesn't enjoy overly sweet or sickly rich desserts - the icecreams here are next level and perfectly balanced. they just know how to work flavour combos and sweetness levels so well and the ice-cream has a interestingly chewy (?) and smoothtexturethat is pleasant. i urge you to try. asap.

came here again more recently and tried the peach. yum yumm!! pls get it on my behalf!!

hakiki ice cream parlour is a dessert shop in newtown that is famous for their turkish ice cream. we had heard many good things about this place so came here for dessert after dinner one night. we ordered the big bowl, which includes 5 flavours to share, the baklava, sticky data, mango and coconut, strawberry and cream, grape molasses and tahini. the secret to its creamytextureis salep, dried powdered root of an orchid, which gives it a creamy flavour that is more melt resistant compared to normal ice cream. i really enjoyed this, the baklava was probably my favourite, the pistachio and puff pastry flakes made for a textured scoop, while the mango and coconut was nice and refreshing. the strawberry and cream was also quite fruity, while the sticky date was the sweetest of them all. the grape molasses and tahini was the most interesting and traditional of the flavours and definitely unique.
