gumbo ya ya

delicious jumbalaya. i am not the biggest fan of spicy food, which usually means cajun is a complete no go for me. but i was really impressed by gumbo ya ya. the man at the counter suggested i try jumbalaya, and while it had a touch of spice (i am really, really sensitive to that) it was quite delicious and very hardy. i couldn't even finish the small portion.

i would definitely suggest this place to others and would go again.

fantastic food and service. we had four different entrees to split and every single one was fantastic. my personal favorite the gumbo. we hadn't been there before so the waiter let us try some of the sauces, we didn't even ask he just offered. also, they have giant chocolate chip cookies for $1. i ask you, could a restaurant be any better? i think not.

delish.. i guess you could say i'm a "regular." i've been coming here for years and have never left disappointed! the menu is ever-changing and you can sample things first before you decide what you want to get. i don't think i have ever had anything i didn't like here. i recently went to new orleans and, i have to say, the jambalaya here is much better than any i had there. i also really like the etouffee.

i can't say enough about how good this place is!! the chicken creole is amazing!!! the prices can't be beat.

love it. i go here at least twice a month. i take all my out of town friends here for lunch. the food is always yummy and hot and cheap!! you will love it.

keep coming back. gumbo ya ya (in my opinion) is definitely the best tasting and authentic creole/cajun food you can get in lexington. bourbon n' toulouse is tasty and i've gone there a few times, but it's not as true to the real thing. however, if you can't handle spicy very well i would suggest headin over to bourbon n' toulouse instead. they're both good, but i prefer gumbo ya ya plus you can sample anything you'd like.

awesome cajun infusion!. never had a bad meal here and for only 8 bucks. the white chili is spectacular as well as everything else. a must eat hole in the wall if you come to lexington.

best cajun in town!. fair price and always quick! dont let a little line scare you away at lunch time; you'll get your food just as quick as you would at mcd's but it will be 1000x better.
i recommend the maque choux (say - mock shoe) with an abita beer at dinner or ale8 during lunch.

great food, reasonable prices. we've been going here for years and have never been dissatisfied. the food is consistently good. the portions are enormous. the prices are equivalent to a fast food combination meal. we recommend the yatwich(pulled, stewed turkey on foccacia bread) and the succotash. they have ale81 on fountain. if you like your food extra spicy, it can be topped with an in-house spicy garlic sauce. it is slow-cooked all day long for a rich flavor, so its ready to serve and you get it really fast. you are also able to choose between having your dish served on a bed of pasta or rice. there are a few steady menu items, but a lot of rotating ones as well, so you never know what will look good to you on any given day. if you can't decide what looks good, they offer a half and half dish order that's the same price as the large order. if you're curious about the taste of an item, they will gladly give you samples. it would be crazy to pass this place up for sub-par food from a drive-thru.

great food. i had no expectations going in, but i was extremely pleased. everything i have ordered has been great. the service is a bit weird, but it does not matter when the product is so good. i love the yatwhich. a must eat in lexington.

great cajun food. i have tried most of the cajun places in town and this is my favorite. i love the maque choux and spinach and mushroom etouffee. i've never had to wait over 3 min for food either.

disappointed for the first time. i always enjoy the food from here, however was a little disappointed this time. went in 2 hours before close and they were out of rice and out of bread for what seem to be the rest of the evening. i visit gumbo ya ya many times and have used their catering often. i know they have some competition now, i just hope this experience is not a prelim of things to come

best creole food in lexington. consistently the best cajun / creole food in lexington. i love that they have a rotating menu, so you never know what they might have on a given day. i love the maque choux and the yatwich! all first class ingredients and preparation. service is super fast.
