gumbo ya ya

great, cheap eats, and excellent customer service. i've been here twice, and both times the food was excellent. because of the ability to order two entrees in a large plate, i've tried nearly everything on the menu. myfavoriteis the maque choux over pasta, but everything is great! since the menu consists primarily of various prepared sauces served over either rice or pasta, it's extremely fast. also they offer free samples, so you really can't go wrong.
on my most recent visit, i ordered a half yatwich. shortly after paying, they realized they were out of the drunken chicken that goes on the sandwich. they apologized profusely and offered me not only another meal in place of my sandwich, but also to give me the sandwich to go once it was ready. on my way out, they gave me a full yatwich, and yet another apology. so to make up for being temporarily out of the thing i ordered, they gave me a free small plate and a free half a sandwich. that kind of treatment is what turns an occasional customer into a regular.

my only complaints are that they allow people to say pray-leen, instead of insisting on prah-leen, and they serve red beans and rice every day of the week. considering the outstanding customer service, i suppose those little flaws can be overlooked, even by a nola purist ;-)

just try the maque choux. i will leave you with one simple piece of advice. try the maque choux. everything else is just sub-par, but the maque choux will instantly become yourfavoriteas it has with everyone else. get this and then come talk to me, as it is literally the best and my mostfavoritedish at any restaurant, hands down.

best cajun in lex. gumbo ya ya is myfavoritecajun place in lexington. the flavors in the restaurant's dishes are amazing, and many of the dishes have a little heat, too (which i like). a rotating menu has many traditional cajun favorites like jambalaya, along with some non-cajun (but spicy) items like pazole stew and even daily vegan/vegetarian offerings. from my perspective, their cajun can't be beat!

have you heard of gumbo ya ya in lexington , kentucky ?   if you haven’t--and you love great cajun food without a lot of fuss--you need to make a visit.  we recently spent a night in lexington near the university of kentucky campus for an event at the lexington convention center and discovered (yet another) little strip mall restaurantfavoritein gumbo ya ya.  gumbo ya ya is tucked away in a little, university of kentucky campus, strip mall.   while the semi-hidden location near the end of a campus strip mall may hide gumbo ya ya from tourists--the locals know it’s there!  during our stay in lexington , we heard about a first annual crawfish festival at the red mile racetrack.  we love cajun food and thought it would be a fun family outing.  to our disappointment, there was one vendor attempting to cater the busy festival crowd and the line for the promised cajun food was about two hours long at 6 p.m. ! while many visitors camped out in the festival food line--we ventured a few block

fantastic food and service. we had four different entrees to split and every single one was fantastic. my personalfavoritethe gumbo. we hadn't been there before so the waiter let us try some of the sauces, we didn't even ask he just offered. also, they have giant chocolate chip cookies for $1. i ask you, could a restaurant be any better? i think not.

one of myfavoriteplaces to eat!. i. adore. gumbo-ya ya. while the atmosphere is generic madri gras, the food is absolutely delicious. visitors can try a sample of anything they like on the ever-changing menu. pralines and bread pudding are made daily (the bread pudding with whiskey sauce being one of the best things i have had in this city.) myfavoriteentree is the yatwich, with its burst of mildly spicy flavors swimming inside shredded chicken (or pork, either way it's delicious), piping hot and sandwiched between freshly made tomato ciabatta bread (with a side of salty tortilla chips to mop up the leftovers).

my fiancee adores the gumbo any time of year; it's one of the few spicy entrees on a restaurant menu that does not upset his stomach. best cajun in lexington with a great variety. i am stickler for consistency when it comes to restaurants, and gumbo ya ya does not disappoint! i'm a customer for life!

a vegetarians refuge. delicious and charming new orleans/cajun themed restaurant that is great for either take-out or dine-in. always has 2 vegetarian options to choose from making it a frequent spot for my lunch break during the week. the menu rotates quite often but myfavoriteis definitely the spinach and mushroom e'touffee. the food is perfectly rich and a tad spicy. i don't saturate the flavors with hot sauce, but this is a common practice here. very reasonable prices, good portions, and fast service.

myfavoriteplace ever!. when i went to uk, i used to eat here once a week at least. i've moved out of the area, but always find a way to stop and grab a plate of anything from gumbo ya ya when i'm anywhere near the lexington area. the food is fresh and delish with large portions. the free samples help me experience new cajun dishes. the staff is friendly and the service is fast. i can't say enough about this place!

really good, solid cajun food. i wish there was a bit more, ahem, regularity of the menu, but that is one of their charming attributes. my wife wishes there were more things she can eat (sda), but that's cajun for you, eh? great food at a solid price, kind of out of the way location tucked off of broadway, but worth the trip. probably myfavoritecajun restaurant.

gumbo ya ya has just continued to be their awesome selves.  the food is still top-notch cajun, full of flavor, and the staff has barely changed in the last five years.  they have easily become my go-to place for cajun. i never say no to this place. it still amazes me how many lexington friends don't know about the place.

yum!. gumbo ya ya is one of the more unique local offerings. with a variety of cajun offerings as well as some unique flavors that may not be strictly classifiable to one cuisine there are options for anyone who may try it out.

gumbo ya ya offers a variety of sauces (or stews) and will pour a healthy portion over either penne pasta or rice. i prefer it over pasta although the flavors mix well with the rice as well.

i have always enjoyed the ropa vieja and the jambalaya however myfavorite(although not always available) is the peanut sauce. it's fantastic on the penne.
