gumbo ya ya

will be going back!. i've only been to a few cajun style restaurants but i've always enjoyed the food. i decided to try gumbo ya ya out yesterday and i must say i'm impressed. the food was wonderful. i got the large plate with white chili and chicken fricassee' (and rice). i'm also a fan of bourbon n' toulouse but this location is closer for me and i don't have to deal with the parking situation like you do with b n' t. also, i feel like gumbo ya ya was a cleaner restaurant. overall a great experience. i will be back!

hands down best cajun in lex!. price is awesome, hours are great and service is quick. this is by far the best cajun in lex. i eat there 2-3 times per week, chicken fricasee is awesome, and their jambalaya and red beans are incredible!

have you heard of gumbo ya ya in lexington , kentucky ?   if you haven’t--and you love great cajun food without a lot of fuss--you need to make a visit.  we recently spent a night in lexington near the university of kentucky campus for an event at the lexington convention center and discovered (yet another) little strip mall restaurant favorite in gumbo ya ya.  gumbo ya ya is tucked away in a little, university of kentucky campus, strip mall.   while the semi-hidden location near the end of a campus strip mall may hide gumbo ya ya from tourists--the locals know it’s there!  during our stay in lexington , we heard about a first annual crawfish festival at the red mile racetrack.  we love cajun food and thought it would be a fun family outing.  to our disappointment, there was one vendor attempting to cater the busy festival crowd and the line for the promised cajun food was about two hours long at 6 p.m. ! while many visitors camped out in the festival food line--we ventured a few block

yum!. we went on a sunday, 45 minutes before they were about to close. understandably, they had a large party before our 3 person order so they ran out of rice right before us. however, even with the obscure pasta, the etufee and the creole was amazing! the play on the sandwich was spicy and great! use and abuse the sauces!

ya ya or toulouse. honestly, i cannot tell much difference between gumbo ya ya and bourbon n' toulouse. there are a lot of similarities between the restaurants--both have the same format and pretty much the same food.

the red beans and sausage over rice and side of bread tastes good. the only edge i give to ya ya because of the parking--no hassles like trying to deal with the crappy parking around toulouse.

watch your credit card receipt!. i used to get the chicken etoufee all the time here. i have already posted a similar post on yelp, but i just wanted to inform everyone that although the food here is not bad, i had an experience a long time ago which has kept me going back.

to put it in a nutshell, my credit card receipt was overcharged by a $2 tip which i did not include (i had left the tip line blank). i have more information on the aforementioned website.

one of the owners contacted me about said review and wanted me to take it down. i did not because i felt it needed to be said. she was initially friendly, but after i didn't yield to request, became somewhat threatening calling my post slanderous. first of all, written defamation is libel, not slander, but that's beside the point. secondly, on a review site, the whole point is to put your experiences, both good and bad up, to potentially help others.

warms you up in winter!. went here for the first time tonight. i was indecisive so i got a half a yatwich and half gumbo. the yatwich was good, and spicy! i would definitely get the chicken again, but probably just on a bed of rice. the bread wasn't really my thing. the gumbo was also really delicious, with just the right amount of spice. i found 2 bay leaves in my gumbo, so you know they're seasoning it well!! there was no way i could finish my portion, and unfortunately i was too full to get the bread pudding. maybe next trip (since i will definitely be back!)

everything is very good. counter service is good and plenty of sauces to wpice the food to your taste. large helpings and free tastings before you order. a gem.

yummy!!. love, love, love gumbo ya ya! it is reasonably priced, and the food is beyond delicious.

gumbo yay yay!. what a great find! i'm so glad to have found t a place that serves competent cajun in central kentucky. a friend and i stopped by recently (my first time) and got the large plate of red beans, sausage and rice and their jambalaya. very nice! i recommend.

outstanding!. i'm new to urbanspoon and this is the first place i wanted to leave a review for..it's that good! great food and can't beat the prices either, i've been a regular for 6 years and have never had a bad experience. my favorites are the chili-cheese etouffee, white chili, sausage and red beans and the yatwich is the best sandwich in town--definitely different from anything else around. i highly recommend checking this place out if you haven't already

the best deal and cajun flavors in lex-- for vegetarians and others. dependably delicious!
