gumbo ya ya

so so delicious!! i can't wait to come back. flew in from memphis. heard about this on urbanspoon review. i was in heaven with every bite. owner/cook super nice, and boy can he cook! i am eating lunch here, but it's so good, that i want to come try something else for dinner before my flight heads back to memphis tonight. i ordered large shrimp étouffée/half moux choux. spelling that last one wrong, but you must eat here. affordable for suchgreatfood. 8 bucks!!

between the two gumbo joints in lexington, gumbo ya ya is by far the place to go. the food here has a cleaner less muddled taste. the red beans are very good. the sauce hasgreatflavor and some nice heat. the saltyness of the beans works well with the heat. the sausage used is of quality. i love the yatwich, the bread however is very soft and doughy. the chicken is very spicy, in a good way. i will try this again with rice. the gumbo is good. its on the mild side. if you want good cajun this is the place to try.

i have been here a few times now and have been satisfied every time. they have a varying selection of 8-10 cajun dishes. they let you sample any of them for free, which is nice. you can get a small plate (~$6 i think) or a large (~$8), and if you get a large you can get two dishes split halvsies (for an extra $1 i think).

the portion size on a large plate is plentiful, i sometimes can only finish half of it. it's agreatvalue for the price.

they usually have a good variety of dishes. one time i got a dish with alligator meat, that was pretty interesting.

overall, this is an ideal place for anyone wanting some filling, good quality cajun food without spending over $10.

will be going back!. i've only been to a few cajun style restaurants but i've always enjoyed the food. i decided to try gumbo ya ya out yesterday and i must say i'm impressed. the food was wonderful. i got the large plate with white chili and chicken fricassee' (and rice). i'm also a fan of bourbon n' toulouse but this location is closer for me and i don't have to deal with the parking situation like you do with b n' t. also, i feel like gumbo ya ya was a cleaner restaurant. overall agreatexperience. i will be back!

hands down best cajun in lex!. price is awesome, hours aregreatand service is quick. this is by far the best cajun in lex. i eat there 2-3 times per week, chicken fricasee is awesome, and their jambalaya and red beans are incredible!

have you heard of gumbo ya ya in lexington , kentucky ?   if you haven’t--and you lovegreatcajun food without a lot of fuss--you need to make a visit.  we recently spent a night in lexington near the university of kentucky campus for an event at the lexington convention center and discovered (yet another) little strip mall restaurant favorite in gumbo ya ya.  gumbo ya ya is tucked away in a little, university of kentucky campus, strip mall.   while the semi-hidden location near the end of a campus strip mall may hide gumbo ya ya from tourists--the locals know it’s there!  during our stay in lexington , we heard about a first annual crawfish festival at the red mile racetrack.  we love cajun food and thought it would be a fun family outing.  to our disappointment, there was one vendor attempting to cater the busy festival crowd and the line for the promised cajun food was about two hours long at 6 p.m. ! while many visitors camped out in the festival food line--we ventured a few block

gumbo yay yay!. what agreatfind! i'm so glad to have found t a place that serves competent cajun in central kentucky. a friend and i stopped by recently (my first time) and got the large plate of red beans, sausage and rice and their jambalaya. very nice! i recommend.

outstanding!. i'm new to urbanspoon and this is the first place i wanted to leave a review for..it's that good!greatfood and can't beat the prices either, i've been a regular for 6 years and have never had a bad experience. my favorites are the chili-cheese etouffee, white chili, sausage and red beans and the yatwich is the best sandwich in town--definitely different from anything else around. i highly recommend checking this place out if you haven't already

one of my favorite places to eat!. i. adore. gumbo-ya ya. while the atmosphere is generic madri gras, the food is absolutely delicious. visitors can try a sample of anything they like on the ever-changing menu. pralines and bread pudding are made daily (the bread pudding with whiskey sauce being one of the best things i have had in this city.) my favorite entree is the yatwich, with its burst of mildly spicy flavors swimming inside shredded chicken (or pork, either way it's delicious), piping hot and sandwiched between freshly made tomato ciabatta bread (with a side of salty tortilla chips to mop up the leftovers).

my fiancee adores the gumbo any time of year; it's one of the few spicy entrees on a restaurant menu that does not upset his stomach. best cajun in lexington with agreatvariety. i am stickler for consistency when it comes to restaurants, and gumbo ya ya does not disappoint! i'm a customer for life!

a vegetarians refuge. delicious and charming new orleans/cajun themed restaurant that isgreatfor either take-out or dine-in. always has 2 vegetarian options to choose from making it a frequent spot for my lunch break during the week. the menu rotates quite often but my favorite is definitely the spinach and mushroom e'touffee. the food is perfectly rich and a tad spicy. i don't saturate the flavors with hot sauce, but this is a common practice here. very reasonable prices, good portions, and fast service.

really good, solid cajun food. i wish there was a bit more, ahem, regularity of the menu, but that is one of their charming attributes. my wife wishes there were more things she can eat (sda), but that's cajun for you, eh?greatfood at a solid price, kind of out of the way location tucked off of broadway, but worth the trip. probably my favorite cajun restaurant.

gumbo ya ya has just continued to be their awesome selves.  the food is still top-notch cajun, full of flavor, and the staff has barely changed in the last five years.  they have easily become my go-to place for cajun. i never say no to this place. it still amazes me how many lexington friends don't know about the place.

good food, good prices, come and get it!. cant go wrong here.. i remember some kind of crazy spicy bean dish that was so insanely spicey.. woohoo.. but was limited availability.. the yatwich is crazy good and all the others aregreatalso.. better watch out or you will be eating here everyday..

try bourbon and toulouse to switch it up, maybe here one day and then there and back and then the new location of yaya.. have fun spicing it up with the sauces as well..

great cajun food!. if you go for lunch - get here early. there's usually a line out the door at noon. this place hasgreatcajun food.
