i got thegumboplate and although it wasn't the greatest i've had, the portion was huge, it was good and the price was reasonable. i wish i'd have done a split plate and tried the red beans and sausage. cool offering that i didn't take advantage of.

reliable and delicious. we go here for lunch or dinner at least a couple times a month. the prices are great, the portions are generous, and the food is great. the guys that work atgumboare always willing to let you sample whatever you like and to talk about the food, really nice guys. the menu changes periodically, but they do maintain some staple cajun items, like red beans and rice and jambalaya. never had a bad dish here.

best cajun in lex.gumboya ya is my favorite cajun place in lexington. the flavors in the restaurant's dishes are amazing, and many of the dishes have a little heat, too (which i like). a rotating menu has many traditional cajun favorites like jambalaya, along with some non-cajun (but spicy) items like pazole stew and even daily vegan/vegetarian offerings. from my perspective, their cajun can't be beat!

second time eating here, three more entrees. the food food is very good, full of deep flavors. consistent. this is the key to a well run kitchen.

between the twogumbojoints in lexington, gumboya ya is by far the place to go. the food here has a cleaner less muddled taste. the red beans are very good. the sauce has great flavor and some nice heat. the saltyness of the beans works well with the heat. the sausage used is of quality. i love the yatwich, the bread however is very soft and doughy. the chicken is very spicy, in a good way. i will try this again with rice. thegumbois good. its on the mild side. if you want good cajun this is the place to try.

as a cajun, i'm pretty particular about the cajun food i get at restaurants. it's not uncommon for me to walk into a place that bills itself as cajun and know from he moment i walk in that something is wrong because of how the restaurant smells. as i've worked in the french quarter, i can tell you from the moment i walked intogumboya ya that it smells like a downtown new orleans kitchen. i love the maque choux and he choux choux. the interesting thing about the choux choux in particular is that, though i had never had that exact dish (which is essentially a corn étouffée) it has all the right textures and flavors of cajun food. when i made it at home, my husband had the same reaction i did. though we'd never had it before, it tastes like home.

there's a reason this place has a line out the door at lunchtime. also note that if you need large quantities for a meeting or a party, the prices are better than bnt. highly recommended, cajun approved.

will be going back!. i've only been to a few cajun style restaurants but i've always enjoyed the food. i decided to trygumboya ya out yesterday and i must say i'm impressed. the food was wonderful. i got the large plate with white chili and chicken fricassee' (and rice). i'm also a fan of bourbon n' toulouse but this location is closer for me and i don't have to deal with the parking situation like you do with b n' t. also, i feel likegumboya ya was a cleaner restaurant. overall a great experience. i will be back!

have you heard ofgumboya ya in lexington , kentucky ?   if you haven’t--and you love great cajun food without a lot of fuss--you need to make a visit.  we recently spent a night in lexington near the university of kentucky campus for an event at the lexington convention center and discovered (yet another) little strip mall restaurant favorite ingumboya ya. gumboya ya is tucked away in a little, university of kentucky campus, strip mall.   while the semi-hidden location near the end of a campus strip mall may hidegumboya ya from tourists--the locals know it’s there!  during our stay in lexington , we heard about a first annual crawfish festival at the red mile racetrack.  we love cajun food and thought it would be a fun family outing.  to our disappointment, there was one vendor attempting to cater the busy festival crowd and the line for the promised cajun food was about two hours long at 6 p.m. ! while many visitors camped out in the festival food line--we ventured a few block

ya ya or toulouse. honestly, i cannot tell much difference betweengumboya ya and bourbon n' toulouse. there are a lot of similarities between the restaurants--both have the same format and pretty much the same food.

the red beans and sausage over rice and side of bread tastes good. the only edge i give to ya ya because of the parking--no hassles like trying to deal with the crappy parking around toulouse.

warms you up in winter!. went here for the first time tonight. i was indecisive so i got a half a yatwich and half gumbo. the yatwich was good, and spicy! i would definitely get the chicken again, but probably just on a bed of rice. the bread wasn't really my thing. thegumbowas also really delicious, with just the right amount of spice. i found 2 bay leaves in my gumbo, so you know they're seasoning it well!! there was no way i could finish my portion, and unfortunately i was too full to get the bread pudding. maybe next trip (since i will definitely be back!)

delicious jumbalaya. i am not the biggest fan of spicy food, which usually means cajun is a complete no go for me. but i was really impressed bygumboya ya. the man at the counter suggested i try jumbalaya, and while it had a touch of spice (i am really, really sensitive to that) it was quite delicious and very hardy. i couldn't even finish the small portion.

i would definitely suggest this place to others and would go again.
