10/12: i was here with my team for a dinner. we had sausages, mussels, cheese for starter. i ordered a lamb shank for entrée. highly recommendedplacefor food and beer. for service i would say they have a scope for improvement..otherwise a nice place.

after visiting guglhupf, it seems like a niceplaceto grab a lunch/brunch bite, drink some coffee in the afternoon, or to study. i was really impressed by the environment- very laid back, nice decorations, and there were options for inside seating upstairs and downstairs as well as outside seating. they offered a number of options when we went for lunch and had quite a few pastries in the display case.
i ordered the schnitzel, my girlfriend ordered the southwestern omelet, and we split an apple danish from the case. my schnitzel was fried perfectly. it was still tender on the inside but had a nice crust. it lacked seasoning or flavor, however, and the salad it came with was just a basic set of greens. my girlfriend's omelet was a pretty standard omelet. i don't like eggs much, but it seemed very average and she agreed. the danish was good and had a really nice flaky crust. the apples were really tart, and we both would've preferred something sweeter, but the flakiness of the pastry was spot on. based on this, i would think that a lot of the scones, muffins, cookies, etc. here are probably very high quality but i'll have to come back and try some more options to see!

definitely aplaceto go to enjoy the atmosphere and drink a coffee and munch on a croissant but not theplaceto go for lunch if you want anything special. breakfast was your typical boring breakfast items that i could make just as well and for cheaper at home. lunch had some decent sandwiches but nothing that will blow your too off. have not tried dinner here yet but wouldn't be opposed.

this is a unique place, with things i really like and things i really don't like. first let me say i wish theplacewas full service and that about covers all the dislikes. the witing in long lines and crowded counters and beverage areas can get too congested. plus you have to fetch your own silverware. still thisplacei like a lot because of the outdoor seating replete with trickling fountains, pastry shop, delightful beer selection and fresh delicious german food. friendly folks too. german potato salad is excellent!

thisplaceis top-notch. lunch was excellent, the pastries and desserts are as well. i think the mass amount of reviews of thisplacespeaks to that. my wife and i will absolutely keep going here, it puts most places to shame.

amazing bakery, cafe service was less than stellar. my husband and i adore guglhupf's bakery! if we didn't mind weighing 500 lbs, we'd eat there every day! with that being said, their cafe service was not that great. we went there one time and the staff was excellent. the second time we went, we waited forever toplaceour order, we got the wrong sides and our waiter barely gave us the time of day. he kept passing by our table, looking straight us and didn't even bother to come over to see if we needed anything the entire time we were dining. i honestly don't know if we'll be back to the cafe, but we will certainly be back for the bakery!!

bestplacefor brunch in durham. greatplaceto come with friends and grab a late morning coffee/pastry.

then you can pick up some great loaves of fresh baked bread to stock your pantry.

the only downside is that all the locals know this is a greatplaceso it can be crowded at certain times.

it's definitely in my top five places i reccomend to people who come to visit.

what so great about this place? ok, great decor. food ok. people seem to think thisplaceis trendy and great, its not. i went to try out thisplacebased on the reviews i had seen. got there the menu was small. not a big selection on pastries. i have lived in california and have traveled enough to know what a great bakery should be and this is not it. your better off going to panera bread or fosters up the road.

two for two. finally tried thisplaceafter three years in the triangle, had a great brunch, then went back for dinner. brunch was busy but very good. 10 yr old dd had grilled nutella much to her delight too. not sure of what to expect with dinner service, we were wowed. we arrived very early after reserving a table, and theplacesoon filled up around us. make sure to leave enough room for desert! no wrong note in any of our meals, and we happily swapped our plates around. the patio area is lovely.

good food..some issues. guglhuph is a greatplaceand a fantastic eatery. the parking, however, is being keratinized by a nearby chinese supermarket. it is mostly overcrowded, so be prepared to wait!

amazingplacefor brunch. i absolutely love going to guglhupf for sunday brunch - so tasty and having grown up in germany, i appreciate finding places that make authentic german pastries. so yummy! however, it is a bit overpriced and while i am glad that guglhupf is enjoying such success in durham, be forewarned, there will be a long wait for a table on the weekends. great atmosphere, especially upstairs or in the summer on the patio. love it.
