love (almost) everything about it. the bread is great, the desserts are fantastic and the pastries are divine, but the coffee...oh, the coffee is so, so bad. somehow weak and burnt at the same time. and stale. it is so offensive that we've taken to driving to the hupf, getting our pastries to go, then dropping by parker and otis for espresso on the way back home (reverse problem at p&o, where we love everything but the pastries, which are not bad but not 'hupf caliber). however, thefoodis terrific, and they made a cake for my dad's 60th birthday at the last minute that was beautiful and very good. it was one of the mousse cakes and it was great because it wasn't overly sweet or overly rich---perfect after a large celebratory meal. seriously, though, someone has to work on the coffee...i don't know if it's the beans or the brewer, but back in the day i seem to remember that they had intelligencia and counter culture, which are worlds above whatever they brew now. all this aside, i love the place, and i must add that i like being able to split my weekend breakfast dollars between two great durham establishments.
