the food and pastries were both amazing. i loved the little butter cookie that they give you with your coffee. thecoffeehad great flavor and paired perfectly with the apple danish. my boyfriend's omelette with the gruyere cheese was top notch, the caramelized onions added a nice sweetness. the service was fast and friendly.

after visiting guglhupf, it seems like a nice place to grab a lunch/brunch bite, drink somecoffeein the afternoon, or to study. i was really impressed by the environment- very laid back, nice decorations, and there were options for inside seating upstairs and downstairs as well as outside seating. they offered a number of options when we went for lunch and had quite a few pastries in the display case.
i ordered the schnitzel, my girlfriend ordered the southwestern omelet, and we split an apple danish from the case. my schnitzel was fried perfectly. it was still tender on the inside but had a nice crust. it lacked seasoning or flavor, however, and the salad it came with was just a basic set of greens. my girlfriend's omelet was a pretty standard omelet. i don't like eggs much, but it seemed very average and she agreed. the danish was good and had a really nice flaky crust. the apples were really tart, and we both would've preferred something sweeter, but the flakiness of the pastry was spot on. based on this, i would think that a lot of the scones, muffins, cookies, etc. here are probably very high quality but i'll have to come back and try some more options to see!

definitely a place to go to enjoy the atmosphere and drink acoffeeand munch on a croissant but not the place to go for lunch if you want anything special. breakfast was your typical boring breakfast items that i could make just as well and for cheaper at home. lunch had some decent sandwiches but nothing that will blow your too off. have not tried dinner here yet but wouldn't be opposed.

great food, great atmosphere. great brunch. everything was very high quality, nice atmosphere. it was our first time, so maybe we were missing something, but we found seating to be a bit hectic: find a table and try to save it while also waiting in line to order at the counter? still, very happy. thecoffeewas tops and came with a little butter cookie. we went to the adjacent bakery and got some of the same cookies ($16/lb) and fresh bread.

curious about the name guglhupf, of guglhupf bakery and cafe , i gugl-ed it. basically it’s a german fruit/nut bundt-type cake. need to know more? read this . we thought we’d live dangerously and go for sunday brunch . luckily the weather cooperated so lots of people chose to sit outside on guglhupf’s expansive patio, leaving a half dozen empty tables inside. inside seats 100 people also – just to give you some perspective. that sounds like a crowd, but guglhupf is laid out in a way that camouflages those 200 diners with creative architecture. the feel is cozy inside and out. when i ordered a latte with my breakfast, i was asked to wait and pick it up at the counter before heading to our table. pic ordered acoffeeand was handed a fun cup-saucer-biscuit combo. he filled the cup at nearby pots. my latte came with a biscuit on the saucer. first to arrive at our upstairs table was a basket of fantastic guglhupf bakery breads. the problem with this is that it pained me not to be able to e

fresh and authentic food. when i first visited guglhupf after opening, it was little more than a small bakery selling bread and pastries. since then it has evolved into a much larger restaurant/cafe.

on the bakery side is a great selection of pastries and breads. elephant ears, lintzer cookies, and tarts are all great to enjoy with somecoffeeor tea in the relaxing patio area. the restaurant side offers a lot of delicious sandwiches and brunch dishes that make good use of the excellent bread they produce.

the only negative thing i have to say is that weekend brunch can get quite crowded - good luck finding a parking space!

i love guglhupf's patio on a sunny day. the interior is beautifully decorated and the food is great! the only bad thing is that the line tends to clutter the front of the restaurant. it makes for a long wait for anycoffeedrinks you order. i didn't really like waiting longer for my latte than i did for my food. though all was forgiven when i got a cute little shortbread cookie with my espresso :)

delightful. i work at duke and this is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the area for brunch, lunch, an afternoon cup ofcoffeeor a saturday spent enjoying the cafe atmosphere. there's very little to dislike about the friendly staff, the great food, the delightful patio and the out of this world baked goods. watch out though - their bretzel is addictive.

love (almost) everything about it. the bread is great, the desserts are fantastic and the pastries are divine, but the coffee...oh, thecoffeeis so, so bad. somehow weak and burnt at the same time. and stale. it is so offensive that we've taken to driving to the hupf, getting our pastries to go, then dropping by parker and otis for espresso on the way back home (reverse problem at p&o, where we love everything but the pastries, which are not bad but not 'hupf caliber). however, the food is terrific, and they made a cake for my dad's 60th birthday at the last minute that was beautiful and very good. it was one of the mousse cakes and it was great because it wasn't overly sweet or overly rich---perfect after a large celebratory meal. seriously, though, someone has to work on the coffee...i don't know if it's the beans or the brewer, but back in the day i seem to remember that they had intelligencia and counter culture, which are worlds above whatever they brew now. all this aside, i love the place, and i must add that i like being able to split my weekend breakfast dollars between two great durham establishments.
