can you say discrimination???. i have been going to grover's now since it opened 15-20 years ago. they havegoodfood and its close to home.my father and his golf buddies often ended up at grover's for their 19th hole and somegoodeats. so when my girlfriend from college came in for a visit one weekend, my dad recommended going there for a friday fish fry (apparently a buffalo thing). taking his advice we planed on starting out there for a bite, then out for drinks. when we arrived around 8 we sat down and waited for a waitress, after some time the bartender,an older female (owners and staff are all female) informed us that they were closed. now that was clearly not the case! it seemed to my friend and i, who were definitely over dressed for this type of establishment, as we were going on from there, caused a little bit of a ruckus with the local men at the bar. obviously we were taking some attention away from the bartender, who took it upon herself to deal with the situation in asking us to leave because they were closed. i was absolutely astonished, but considering i was living in buffalo and there are a gazillion wonderful restaurants,we found another place to go. that was years ago, and after many visits over the years with only minor incidents, last night after a meal,my friend and i were asked to "wrap it up" because they had people in from out of town who needed to be seated! i was dumbfounded as we left and started walking to the car. we had been there drinking and eating for hours!!! great way to treat your customers!! what makes this less of a big deal, is that it's a hole in the wall place, even after being redone. i get it, thats part of the appeal, and they servegoodgrub. basically your expectations are low. it's not like your being treated this way at a four star restaurant, none the less i felt compelled to write. beware if you happen to be an attractive young or semi young lady without your man, you're not welcome!!
