glenary's bakery

a trip to darjeeling is never complete without avisitto glenary's. a couple of months ago, we visited this legendary bakery on a chilly evening. we had to wait for quite long for the food to arrive, but the ambience is so aesthetic and beautiful, that anyone would hardly complain about waiting a bit long.

we had ordered cheese pizza and a cappuccino, they tasted great.

darjeeling is my favorite summer getaway and it's never truly complete without avisitto glenary's and keventers!

glenary's is a three storied eatery located at chauk bazaar, darjeeling. there is a beautiful cafe cum bakery in the basement and ground floor. the first floor consists of a luxurious dining area that has both indoor and outdoor seating.

i have visited this place many times and of the many things i've tried my favorite are-

1. chocolate tart------ recommended! a perfectly baked tart with a lovely smell of butter, coated with chocolate and filled with the smoothest chocolate ganache!
they cost rs.50 each.
i wish i could find these in kolkata too! 😭❤️

2. chocolate roll----- a crispy wafer roll, filled with whipped cream and coated in chocolate.

3. croissant------ recommended!! the softest, fluffiest croissants i've ever had, made with ample quantities if butter.

4. paris brest----- choux pastry with a filling of smooth coffee cream! tastes quite good.

5. cheese pie------ not the best one i've had but tastes good nonetheless.

6. apple pie----- it tastes best when warm.

7. sausage and bacon pizza----- recommended! they put generous quantities of cheese, sausage and bacon on top. one is enough for 2-3 people.

cost for two: rs.300-400

this bakery was established during the british colonial days and the ambience here gives you a feel of the yesteryears. the iconic red telephone booth stands in the middle of the hall,
; an antique coin register, small coffee tables add to the beauty. the staff is polite but the service is a bit slow as this place is usually very busy throughout the day.

this place is etched as a part of my memories of darjeeling and i can't wait to go back and indulge in more of this amazing food. 💞

a mustvisitplace to have amazing food with amazing view.
tried roasted chicken sub sandwich and roasted pork sub sandwich. also tried lime pie and red velvet cake. must try dessert.

this famous cafe in chowk bazar is a major attraction of every tourist.. they have really quality bakery items.. which tastes amazing.. and added to it a hot cup of tea makes things perfect.. u can buy and make parcel of various cakes, pastries, cookies, breads n chocolates. trust me u won't be disappointed. a mustvisitplace in darjeeling

desired tovisitthis place n yes it did live up to my expectations. view is good. ordered for fried eggs,bacon n sausages, needless to say it did satiate my palate. even the cheese omlette was yumm. not a fan of black tea so won't comment.

recently i came tovisitdarjeeling for a vacation. so i know that for cakes and cappuccino, this place is the best in darjeeling. i visited this place around 6 p.m. the ambiace is amazing. i went to the balcony section and take the seat. the view from the balcony is wonderful. coming to the food, the quality and quantity of the food is good. i loved their cappuccino.

an absolutely overhyped place!!! the only good part is ambience!!
ordered: whole wheat croissant, black forest cake, hot chocolate, bacon and sausage pizza.

except pizza,rest of the items were an absolute flop!!

a mustvisitif you happen to be in darjeeling. located in chauk bazaar, this place never fails to amaze the tourists as well as the locals. on my recentvisitto this place, we tried out the following:
1. fried eggs with bacon and sausage(2.5/5)
2. hot chocolate(4/5)
3. brownies(4/5)
the ambience is extraordinary and the service is satisfactory.

after receiving an uncountable no of recommendation..100s of pictures and lot of praising finally it became possible to be there in glenary's in last month..was there to have coffee and some snacks as i got some time in my hand before leaving darjeeling...for city people like us who have to bear with heavy temperature nd that typical hot and humid nature in kolkata throughout the year it's an awesome experience to have their meal sitting @ that altitude..in front of those majestic mountain range..in a pretty cold temperature.
lovely ambience..people are very much polite and courteous..look and decor was very cute and charming..you'll have that foreign like feeling over there and found it really cool.
now,the main thing,their food..well,foodie people mustvisitthis place at least once,if possible..coffee and all the items we had were very much satisfying..sandwich tasted wow..price range low..
highly recommended!!

glenarys.. a name that comes simultaneously with the name darjeeling.. a name that is like a love to every food loving tourists & travelers visiting this beautiful hill town of darjeeling..

the bakery section of glenary's is just a love.. while you enter inside, the freshly baked smell of the cakes and muffins and chocolates will send a spellbound sensation throughout your mind and soul.. and the more you look into the displayed items, the more you will feel mad from inside!!! there are soo many varieties there.. which one to buy???

but alas, our hunger is big and stomach is limited.. so eventually have to filter from the tempting list and decide on some which can be enjoyed with a peace of mind 🙂
and finally decided just to have 4 items for the time being..

♡ japanese cheese cake - smooth and soft and melting in your mouth is what would describe this lovely cake from glenary's.. just loved it..
♡ blueberry cheese cake - one of the best cheese cakes i had till date.. prepared in a 3 layered combination of blueberry on top, full cheesy affair in the mid and cake part on the bottom, it's a heavenly item and must have from this outlet..
♡ choco roll - another lovely item from the house of glenary's.. although from outside it seems to be a simple choco roll, but this one is also made of 3 layers; a lovely white cream in the mid which is being surrounded by a nutty layer and then a chocolate layer on the top.. the combination is really awesome!!
♡ bacon quiche pie - coming out from the sweeth tooth, we decided to have a pie prepared from bacon.. pie was a first time for me.. and it didn't disappoint me though.. fresh and tasty, it was really good one..

on a final note, the glenary's bakery will surely spoil you with a variety of splendid bakery items.. so try as many of them as you can while youvisitthis lovely hill-station darjeeling 🙂😍🤩

glenary's is no less than an institution in darjeeling. this is a place that evokes emotions. the food is neither exquisite,nor flawless! but,taste,despite being an important aspect,is not everything! the picturesque background of clouds playing with the majestic kanchenjunga will drive your worries away(atleast for a while) and you can indulge in the sinfully sweet treats without any guilt.so, next time youvisitthis restaurant,make sure to grab a table by the balcony,enjoy the sceneries with a cup of hot chocolate and let the queen of the hills welcome you with a warm hug.

the pastries were okay not that great but the pizza, darjeeling black tea and chocolate roll was good. the ambience and service is excellent and the view from the place is spectacular. i think if you are in darjeeling then you mustvisithere once.

if u have gone to darjeeling, but never had anything at glenary, then sorry guys!! your darjeeling trip is incomplete. its a must recommendable place. it is situated opposite to the kfc, near mall. lets discuss regarding some points:

1. ambiance: this place has the best ambiance in darjeeling. just spellbound!! inner side and rooftop are also available. but my recommendation to take enjoy on the rooftop. well decorated also. in one word, "classy'.

2. food and quality: as the place,the food was really awesome. i had ordered cheese omelette and hot chocolate. trust me!! the cheese omelette was so yummy and so cheesy!! the size of the cheese omlette was huge, even enough for 2 persons. this cheese omelette is most recommended from my side. along with, the hot chocolate just had stolen my mind!! so good it was. in all, their food and quality is too good.

3. price: now lets come to this important point. i had become so strange with their prices. too much pocket friendly and reasonable also compare to ambiance and food quality. cheese was 100rupees and hot chocolate was 70 rupees only.

in all, i must say again that this place is must recommended from my side if you evervisitdarjeeling atleast for once. this place has become an iconic place for all food lovers. the behaviour of their staffs are so polite. at last, i want to say that i went to darjeeling at a peak season and they maintained their hygiene and quality same as they do. it had done me so strange!! so, they deserve at least 5stars. :) really!! it was great experience.
