my 1st mother's day. we went to food works for a 5:30 dinner on my 1st mother's day with my 10 month old daughter and her grandparents. we had made reservations, only to get there and they did not have our name. no big deal. we were seated right away. we ordered an appetizer and drinks and after about 15 minutes we ordered our entrees. to make a long story short, we did not receive our food until 50 minutes after we order. in fact, thetablebehind us ordered, ate, and paid their bill before we were served our food. the manager told us that it was because a pork chop was ordered. this is not stipulated on the menu that it takes a long time to cook. after my father told her it does not take 45 minutes to cook a pork chop, we were it was because the kitchen was busy. my food was cold as was my mom. however, at this point to 10 month was about done sitting in her high chair. we were then charged tip on top of our bill, which my husband zeroed out and found out today he was still charged. we called and were told it was due to the size of our party. a party of 4 adults and one baby. needless to say, foodworks will not be getting any more business from us.

very disappointing. we did .... very disappointing.
we did our reservations on line and received a phone call with where we were sitting. our parents are 81 years old so it was very pleasing they were taking care of us putting us at a talltableon the main level. when we arrived they said they had to move us upstairs...? i said our parents are 81 why are we being moved upstairs? the hostess said that the other party had called and said they could not go upstairs. she had no empathy and just rushed upstairs.
after we helped out father with his cane upstairs i went back and complained to management that thetablewe had reserved was taken after the fact. he apologized and said he would treat us with appetizers and try to make things right. apparently he got amnesia because he didn't let anyone know or come by to see us. the food was average at best one plate even cold. desert was good.
upon paying i noticed our credit card was not in with the bill. as we were walking out it was on the floor by the top of the stairs. oh this couldn't get much worse right?
on the way out for curiosity we looked to see who reserved thetablethat we had to give up and the 5 ladies in there 50's looked pretty healthy. no canes or visible issues, very well dressed but definitely as capable as an 81 year old man who can't walk without his cane.

nope. don't do it. wife and i visited for first time. appetizer was fair as was salad, nothing special. downhill from there. wife ordered filet medium. came out rare. i ordered the signature chop. it came out so dry i could barely cut it as well as extremely salty. server in training offered a new one. when it came out, i cut into it and it looked like rare ahi tuna.
service stunk. server was training a new hire. only had ourtableof 2 and atableof 6. trainee was great, prompt, and considerate. trainer was arrogant and inept. he never apologized for the chop fiasco and i saw him jawing with the mgr when i sent back the raw chop. the manager never showed her face at the table.

too many great choices in the scenic city to put up w this place

my biggest piece of advice for foodworks brunch (served both saturday & sunday) is to get there early or make reservations. the difference between 11:05 and 11:10 can be a 45 minute wait for atable- but don't worry, you can have a mimosa while you wait.

review. i had not been impressed during my previous visits to food works; none of the entrée descriptions appealed to me. i did, however, eat my way through the appetizer menu; most were adequate, some not particularly well conceived, a few poorly executed. nothing exciting enough to bring me back, but an attractive room and attentive service. we decided to try works under it's current ownership/management/culinary team.

the house was relatively full, but not packed: there were no waits for tables. our server greeted us immediately and, after offering drinks, regaled us in the over-familiar way common to many servers about the menu offerings. there were so many "awesome" dishes i lost count, and he identified at least three or four dishes that were his absolute favorite (full disclosure: the 87 and 91 year-old ladies who were part of the party loved the attention).
the mrs. and i started with an order of calamari, which our server placed in the middle of thetableof seven. oh well. the squid were tender, although not deep in flavor. the breading was tasty, but only adhered to part of the squid, and was excessively oily, indicating too low a temperature for the oil. half-way through, it had become unpleasantly oily and not at all crisp.
the orange and pepper seared scallops were properly cooked, but lacking flavor. the sautéed greens had no recognizable/identifiable flavor, and the potato "pave" (classically, a rectangular mousse-like affair) consisted of very thinly sliced potato inter-layered with (?) cheese. the only real flavor on the plate was the onion/bacon vinaigrette, which drowned out what ever flavor anything else had.
the smoked gouda mac and cheese had no discernible flavor of cheese. the chorizo was also missing in action. the braised pork-belly topping had little lean and had no flavor save the coke glaze. the chewy, fatty pieces were too large to handle easily. the onion rings had been pre-cooked and heat-lamped and were slimy. i couldn't finish half of it.
the pork chop was pronounced delicious and the chicken breast (called a cutlet) picatta
was well received. a special order fried-chicken emerged as two large mahogany colored clusters, but when broken down were declared as tasty.
our server, who had kept water glasses filled, came by and asked how we liked everything (wait for it). most said they liked it. i described the m&c as above, without calling the onions "slimy." server's response was, "i had that the other day and it was awesome!" i'm sure he was oblivious to the fact that he had discredited my comment. he certainly did not ask if there was anything that could be done to rectify the situation (there might have been had he asked shortly after the food was served). he also was oblivious to the fact that he had not brought the wine i ordered, though he had asked if i wanted it served with the entrée.
three ordered dessert. ice cream arrived quickly. ten minutes later the second ice cream and pecan pie arrived. in between the server had time to chat-up the barkeep.
the food the mrs. and i had was execrable. the service was... what it was. from the size of the house, it's obvious that works appeals to many. we are the few.

what works. what doesn't.. my husband and i first tried food works for brunch on our anniversary. i ordered the steak & eggs benedict. my husband ordered the crabcake & eggs benedict. both were wonderful, but i thought mine was outstanding. we also ordered bloody mary's that had just the right amount of kick. we loved it so much we came back for dinner and were served by the bartender, who was very hospitable. the food was good. however, i must say the brunch was more enjoyable. the next time we went was for my birthday. i had high hopes of eating the steak & eggs benedict again. however, i was sad to see it was taken off of the menu. we sat at atablenear the bar and was served by another bartender. she was completely rude and hateful. she rushed us to order, didn't bring us the bread we requested and didn't offer to refill our drinks. she even yelled at a customer for asking if he could borrow one our chairs for his party. it was embarrassing. her attitude alone makes me question if it's worth going back.
