very nice lunch here.. my husband and i came for lunch on a friday. parking was easy. hostess and wait staff were very attentive and friendly. i ordered two appetizers for my meal: the crab cake and fried green tomatoes. both of these were very good. the crab was served over a salsa with corn in it and had a nice smoky taste. it was unusual and verygoodthe 4 pieces of fried green tomato were served with a salad that had some proscuitto and ?feta or goat cheese in it along with a remoulade? sauce. very good. the highlight for me was a perfect cup of gazpacho. as you know, gas is hit or miss; slimy cucumbers or just a whirled veggie mess, but no, this was perfect. the veggies were diced very very small making for a delicious gaz. my husband had the signature salmon luncheon dish cooked perfectly and served with mashed potatoes and braised red cabbage. our bill was ~$50, a bit more than we normally pay for lunch but the portions were huge and the food was delicious. yes, i'd recommend trying it out.

not a fan of fw. i've been to foodworks several times and never been impressed. i'm a simple kind of girl, although a little picky, and the type of fancypants food served here is just not my bag. if i want a steak, i want a steak and gimme some of that trashy heinz 57 sauce to muck it all up with, you know?

to make matters worse, foodworks isn't cheap. and even for fancypants food, it is severely overpriced considering that it lacks in taste and portions equivalent to what one is paying for their meal.

the bread service is pathetic, too - regular ol' rolls that can be had at a million other restaurants; one would expect homemade bread, but nope. frozen pre-made rolls served along with your over-priced meal.

service is generally snotty and rude, very slow and annoying. this is probably the biggest reason why i will pout and whine at the prospect of being taken to fw. i can generally find something, anything, to eat, but when it comes to service, i'm somewhat of a stickler unless the food more than makes up for it.

good salads. but, i can get agoodsalad anywhere.

excellent experience. went on a saturday evening without a reservation, but they were able to seat us immediately at a bar area high top table. i had the chicken piccata with mashed potatoes and seasonable vegetable- absolutely delicious. my companion had the beef brisket tacos and said the flavor was amazing. the beef was fairly fatty and required agoodbit of trimming. price was reasonable for the food and the ambiance. very nice bartender attended to our table. would definitely go back. seems like agooddate spot - cozy, romantic.

nice / unique spot for some food. the building was clearly once some industrial use facility but they did agoodjob with the repurpose.

plenty of activity at 6:45 and ample parking both at the location and beside restaurant. plenty of selection re the appetizers and the salads/ sandwiches and entrees.  looked like mostly a $$$ rating is correct on the pricing.

could t really single out a choice so asked my server for a recommendation. he suggested the chicken piccata (pictured). i went with that.

the dish was served in a reasonable amount of time and looked appealing. it was served on a huge serving of mashed potatoes.goodbut only good. there were a few spots in them that i felt like didn't get totally heated through. the chicken was done very well. nice crust on the outside but moist inside. the capers, mushrooms and sauce added agoodacidity. i didn't check but the snow peas on the side appeared to have been seared then served with a sauce as well. regardless i did enjoy those as well.

overall id go back and have another meal.

food works is located in the  north shore  area in part of an old, renovated multistory knitting mill—which, in itself, has multiple historical stories to tell. sharing this large building with  knitting mill antiques , food works opened in 2006 to bring “progressive southern” cuisine to the north shore area. i’d heardgoodthings about their weekend  brunch , so i roamed on over to check it out. read the rest of my review at nooga.com! about these ads share this: email

i hate giving bad reviews...but.... i ate a food works a few years ago and really enjoyed it. since it's so expensive, it's not a place that i thought about often. i had family in town on saturday and they wanted to enjoy a unique brunch...i took them there. what a horrible disappointment. (it was so bad - and my review is so bad - i've been tossing it around in my head for a few days!) i ordered the crab cake. it was supposed to be served on a bed of okra succotash...there was one piece of slimy okra mixed in with a ton of corn. and so much black pepper...i couldn't eat it (and i love pepper!!) the crab cake itself was notgoodeither...it had an odd smell. not a single person, out of the 9 in our party was extremely happy with the food. (i heard the comment that the burger was "good")

not only was the meal unappealing and inedible...the light fixtures (especially the one as soon as you walk in) were filthy! i didn't notice until we were leaving or else i would have walked back out as soon as i walked in. this is a very unique space and has alot of potential...and it used to be a really good, enjoyable restaurant...i'm disappointed.

not worth the money. only been here twice. first time was a few years ago when i came with friends and all we got was a chocolate dessert. that was tasty. expensive, but tasty. the second time was about two weeks ago when my girlfriend and i went in to try the food. since we were college students the only thing we could afford was the grilled chicken ceasar salad. way too expensive for the quality of the food! i understand the lettuce isn't cut well for the looks and i get that. but the chicken was absolutely disgusting. the combo did not make for agoodmeal. will not come back because the over priced disgusting chicken did not give agoodimpression.
on the plus side, the server was very nice and our side of grilled asparagus was delicious. the location was excellent, and the building looked pretty awesome. but again, agoodrestaurant must have at least decent food.

stop before the food. great location, a fun bar atmosphere, gooddrinks, and nice decor. let's leave it at that. have some drinks, socialize with the locals, then grab some fast food on the way home. you will be much better for it, and will thank me because they do everything right but cook quality food.

best restaurant in chattanooga. first, let me say that i am not an employee or in anyway associated with foodworks or it's staff. i have been eating at food works for the past three years, and i have to honestly say that it is the tastiest restaurant in chattanooga. i consider myself a connoisseur of flavorful food, and flashy restaurants, expensive menus, or overly decorated entrees do nothing to impress me if the food isn't good. the thing i love about foodworks is that i don't have to worry if it will begood"this time." i have tried most everything on the menu, and my favorite is the fillet, cooked medium, with boursin cheese on the side, the yukon gold mashed potatoes and the red braised cabbage! i crave it all week, and it's only $21! this is the only restaurant in chattanooga that can cook a truly medium steak. it is perfect every time! their meat lasagna is better than another local restaurant favorite, and their saturday and sunday brunch are to die for! the julie darling donut bacon egg and swiss sandwich is out of this world, and don't get me started on the fried chicken and praline pecan waffles! the portion sizes are very generous, and the pricing is about the same as your average run of the mill chain restaurant. they also have a prettygoodrewards program where you can earn free meals. i could go on, but if you are like me and you demand tasty food in exchange for your hard earned money, you won't be disappointed!! if you want expensive, tiny portioned food that you can't pronounce served in a pretentious atmosphere, then go somewhere else.

gotten better. for a while, this place was hit of miss, but as of late it seems to be much better. their apps are solid if not great (mmm, shrimp fritters) and the main courses were pretty good. the drink menu is extensive as is their beer selection. the ambiance is good. the last time i went, i did have to wait for a little bit even though i had a reservation, but that is a rarity. i hear their brunch isgoodalthough i have not been.

bad hostess. the food definitely far outshines the service. the hostess was not very welcoming. once seated, the waitress was great and knowledgeable about the food. when we were ready to leave no one had brought us a check. the waitress was gone for 10 minutes. we then went down the steps to the front desk to pay. we got a dirty look from the hostess. confused as to where to go, i proceeded to ask where to go to pay. the hostess told me to go find the waitress upstairs. it was just an hour after opening and there were maybe 5 tables. the overall experience wasgoodexcept the hostess.
