excellent experience. went on a saturday evening without a reservation, but they were able to seat us immediately at a bar area high top table. i had thechickenpiccata with mashed potatoes and seasonable vegetable- absolutely delicious. my companion had the beef brisket tacos and said the flavor was amazing. the beef was fairly fatty and required a good bit of trimming. price was reasonable for the food and the ambiance. very nice bartender attended to our table. would definitely go back. seems like a good date spot - cozy, romantic.

nice / unique spot for some food. the building was clearly once some industrial use facility but they did a good job with the repurpose.

plenty of activity at 6:45 and ample parking both at the location and beside restaurant. plenty of selection re the appetizers and the salads/ sandwiches and entrees.  looked like mostly a $$$ rating is correct on the pricing.

could t really single out a choice so asked my server for a recommendation. he suggested thechickenpiccata (pictured). i went with that.

the dish was served in a reasonable amount of time and looked appealing. it was served on a huge serving of mashed potatoes. good but only good. there were a few spots in them that i felt like didn't get totally heated through. thechickenwas done very well. nice crust on the outside but moist inside. the capers, mushrooms and sauce added a good acidity. i didn't check but the snow peas on the side appeared to have been seared then served with a sauce as well. regardless i did enjoy those as well.

overall id go back and have another meal.

not worth the money or time!. we went to food works on a recommendation, but it did not live up to the billing. the staff was rather snotty and unfriendly, prices were sky high (which i don't mind if the food is equal to the price), and the best thing we had was the bread service, which you must ask for or you will not be offered any. thechickenpiccata and my daughter's hamburger were both badly burnt on the bottom, her fries were overcooked and overly salty to the point she did not eat them at all, and the cheese grits were over done, as well. server did not care that the food was not up to par and just kept talking up the weekend brunch, as if we would come back for another meal after the first burnt experience she chose not to correct. food works really needs to work on getting a new and more experienced chef!

not worth the money. only been here twice. first time was a few years ago when i came with friends and all we got was a chocolate dessert. that was tasty. expensive, but tasty. the second time was about two weeks ago when my girlfriend and i went in to try the food. since we were college students the only thing we could afford was the grilledchickenceasar salad. way too expensive for the quality of the food! i understand the lettuce isn't cut well for the looks and i get that. but thechickenwas absolutely disgusting. the combo did not make for a good meal. will not come back because the over priced disgustingchickendid not give a good impression.
on the plus side, the server was very nice and our side of grilled asparagus was delicious. the location was excellent, and the building looked pretty awesome. but again, a good restaurant must have at least decent food.

best restaurant in chattanooga. first, let me say that i am not an employee or in anyway associated with foodworks or it's staff. i have been eating at food works for the past three years, and i have to honestly say that it is the tastiest restaurant in chattanooga. i consider myself a connoisseur of flavorful food, and flashy restaurants, expensive menus, or overly decorated entrees do nothing to impress me if the food isn't good. the thing i love about foodworks is that i don't have to worry if it will be good "this time." i have tried most everything on the menu, and my favorite is the fillet, cooked medium, with boursin cheese on the side, the yukon gold mashed potatoes and the red braised cabbage! i crave it all week, and it's only $21! this is the only restaurant in chattanooga that can cook a truly medium steak. it is perfect every time! their meat lasagna is better than another local restaurant favorite, and their saturday and sunday brunch are to die for! the julie darling donut bacon egg and swiss sandwich is out of this world, and don't get me started on the friedchickenand praline pecan waffles! the portion sizes are very generous, and the pricing is about the same as your average run of the mill chain restaurant. they also have a pretty good rewards program where you can earn free meals. i could go on, but if you are like me and you demand tasty food in exchange for your hard earned money, you won't be disappointed!! if you want expensive, tiny portioned food that you can't pronounce served in a pretentious atmosphere, then go somewhere else.

review. i had not been impressed during my previous visits to food works; none of the entrée descriptions appealed to me. i did, however, eat my way through the appetizer menu; most were adequate, some not particularly well conceived, a few poorly executed. nothing exciting enough to bring me back, but an attractive room and attentive service. we decided to try works under it's current ownership/management/culinary team.

the house was relatively full, but not packed: there were no waits for tables. our server greeted us immediately and, after offering drinks, regaled us in the over-familiar way common to many servers about the menu offerings. there were so many "awesome" dishes i lost count, and he identified at least three or four dishes that were his absolute favorite (full disclosure: the 87 and 91 year-old ladies who were part of the party loved the attention).
the mrs. and i started with an order of calamari, which our server placed in the middle of the table of seven. oh well. the squid were tender, although not deep in flavor. the breading was tasty, but only adhered to part of the squid, and was excessively oily, indicating too low a temperature for the oil. half-way through, it had become unpleasantly oily and not at all crisp.
the orange and pepper seared scallops were properly cooked, but lacking flavor. the sautéed greens had no recognizable/identifiable flavor, and the potato "pave" (classically, a rectangular mousse-like affair) consisted of very thinly sliced potato inter-layered with (?) cheese. the only real flavor on the plate was the onion/bacon vinaigrette, which drowned out what ever flavor anything else had.
the smoked gouda mac and cheese had no discernible flavor of cheese. the chorizo was also missing in action. the braised pork-belly topping had little lean and had no flavor save the coke glaze. the chewy, fatty pieces were too large to handle easily. the onion rings had been pre-cooked and heat-lamped and were slimy. i couldn't finish half of it.
the pork chop was pronounced delicious and thechickenbreast (called a cutlet) picatta
was well received. a special order fried-chicken emerged as two large mahogany colored clusters, but when broken down were declared as tasty.
our server, who had kept water glasses filled, came by and asked how we liked everything (wait for it). most said they liked it. i described the m&c as above, without calling the onions "slimy." server's response was, "i had that the other day and it was awesome!" i'm sure he was oblivious to the fact that he had discredited my comment. he certainly did not ask if there was anything that could be done to rectify the situation (there might have been had he asked shortly after the food was served). he also was oblivious to the fact that he had not brought the wine i ordered, though he had asked if i wanted it served with the entrée.
three ordered dessert. ice cream arrived quickly. ten minutes later the second ice cream and pecan pie arrived. in between the server had time to chat-up the barkeep.
the food the mrs. and i had was execrable. the service was... what it was. from the size of the house, it's obvious that works appeals to many. we are the few.

no good. friedchickenwas burnt, my gf and i shared a ahi tuna app and we ended throwing up all night. the seared scallop did not taste fresh either, it was quite fishy. it seemed like they were trying to cover up the fishy taste of the scallop with a lot of black peppers. i would never go back there... nor recommend anyone to try it.

yum-o. i went with a friend friday night. we had pomegranite mojitos. they were delicious! we split the calamari appetizer. it's huge! i love that they serve it with aioli and marinara. for dinner, i had thechickenpiccata- salted perfectly, loved the capers and mushrooms. she had the horseradish crusted salmon. all around the service was great, and the food was wondeful.

new menu items. several new items adorn the menu at this faithful stand-by of a restaurant. lots of things looked good ... blackberrychicken... but i went with the horesradish encrusted salmon and it was delicious! it was served with mashed poatoes and braised red cabbage (both were excellent). service was prompt and friendly.
