my husband and i arrived at flounder's around 10:00pm on a friday night. business was booming, along with the music from a live band, in the outdoor dining/bar area. our hostess offered to seat us indoors, where it was much more calm, and we were pleased with that option.
upon pulling in the parking lot, we noticed a heavy law enforcement presence inside and outside the restaurant. while it made us feel more secure, we wondered if there are alot of issues here with rowdy patrons.
our soft drink orders (coca-cola products) were taken, and a basket of steaming hot rolls with honey butter was delivered. yum!
our son ordered the kids popcornshrimpwith fries. he said it was delicious, and was happy about the surprise rice krispy treat in his basket.
our daughter ordered the fried fish poboy, with fries, dressed with lettuce, tomato, onions and mayonnaise. she was also offered a side of tartar sauce. she said her meal was quite tasty, and fresh.
my husband ordered the crab stuffed flounder, with mashed potatoes and asparagus. at first, he didn't taste much flavor or seasoning, but he said it got better as he worked toward the center of the dish.
i went with the coconut shrimp, served with coleslaw, fries, two hushpuppies, and a small cup of pina colada mixer in which to dip the shrimp. theshrimpwere a good size, and with the pina colada dip, i was completely full without touching anything else on my plate.
overall, the food was good. we filled up quickly, and no one in our family was able to finish their food or order desert. the orange cheesecake sounded interesting though.
this meal wound up being $75.00, which was a bit overpriced. our waitress seemed less than enthused about serving us, and was quite eager to keep clearing our table before we were ready. if you pay cash, make sure the waitstaff doesn't tip themselves in advance.
also, if you like crab, you won't find it here. head across the street to "we've got crabs", flounder's chowder house sister restaurant.
