flounders chowder house

mediocre. i guess you don't go to flounders only for the food, which is a good thing, b/c it's only ok. and it's overpriced. it has a nice playground for the kids. that's about the best thing i can say for it. i have heard from several people thatseafoodnachos is the dish to get. i've never tried it but i hope it's better than the rest of the menu.

we were down on business and had the opportunity to dine at the flounders. the service was good and amazingly fast. we took the back entrance and found the atmosphere had a kind of campy, beachy feel with emphasis on boating and seafood. the menu was full of a good many choices forseafoodlovers and land lubbers alike. our group of five started with several dozen raw and baked oysters which came out quick. the bar service was just a little slow but all orders were right. the beer was cold and the drinks were just right. if you like long island tea be sure and try the diesel fuel it will probably be the only drink you'll need.
for entrees we had the yellow fin tuna, stuffed flounder, and multiple shrimp boat platters. everything arrived within minutes of placing our order and it was fresh, tasty and perfectly cooked.

on my next trip to pensacola beach i'll be going back to flounders!

better than i remembered.. i confess that we have eaten here in the past, but to be honest it has been so long ago that i really can't remember when. we gave this place a try, because my sister in law wanted to give it a try as some of her friends had recommended it to her. the service was pretty good, the place is certainly a lot more open than i remembered, and the important part, the food was pretty good. i got theseafoodnachos, and wound up sharing them with everyone, since it was so big. everyone was happy with there selections and all thought that it was pretty good. i actually don't remember the food being this good years ago. maybe we hit it at a good time, or they have gotten better. either way, i think that i will give them another try in the future.

for kids only!. go to take your kids for dessert & let them wind down on the playground or just get a drink for yourself! i went here every year for a while, they had good food and atmosphere. last time i went was in sept of 2011 then we went last week may 2013.....what in the heck has happened?! sweet tea was excellent but sides were average and the actualseafoodtastes like crap! flounder stuffed was horrible and stuffed with vegetables that did not compliment the fish at all! our server was great but that's about it. we will not return. go to peg leg's and save yourself the trouble.

always a great place to take out of town friends or family. the atmosphere is completely beachy and there is a great view of the sound, there is even a large dock to allow you to pull your boat or watercraft up, and a large beach area as well. 
i have had many different experiences with the food here. many times it has been good others, even very good, but a few times i have had less than average food. i was once served completely raw shrimp on my nachos, and the server argued with me that gray shrimp are cooked (i am not a tourist, maybe that argument works on some of them).
try theseafoodnachos, if for nothing else a good laugh, they are huge and will feed 6 normal people for their entree. if you have kids, this is a very good option on the beach since they have a playground that is quite large for a restaurant, and the seating abuts right up to the play area so you can watch the kids as you sip on a cold drink.

food on food on food!. holy cow this place gives you a lot of food! we sat outside with was nice right on the bay with a breeze! our waitress was great very helpful with any questions we had! i got a bowl of the chowder and it was fantastic! my wife on theseafoodnachos with was the biggest plate of nachos i've ever seen! they were great though and i had a po boy with fries and it was good as well! we definitely felt like we were going to explode after leaving bc we ate so much! worth the stop with great drink specials early in the week!

it wasn't the bestseafoodever but was pretty good. the environment was fun and the kids really enjoyed the volleyball. the service was quick and friendly.

an upscale pub with family atmosphere. great cheeseburger. theseafoodnachos appetizer was a meal for two, so good. prices were very reasonable. will definitely eat here again.

floundering frozen food. we were in pensacola for a week and we ate at many restaurants while there. we chose flounders for our last night. we ate at mcguire's and enjoyed it. we knew they owned flounders too. the calamari was fine. the dinners were horrible. i got the stuffed flounder. fishy and obviously frozen. my wife got some $19seafoodpasta that was really just a crappy macaroni that hadseafoodin it. the shrimp tasted like it had been soaking in a pool all day. my daughter got the fried fish. it was bad and over breaded and the fries were frozen and from a bag. $110 later we were in a bad mood. the set up is nice and fun but it's not good. there are many other good places to blow $100+. sorry flounders. never again.

good food and lots of it. we ate at flounders on 10/27/12 and it was good. service was prompt and the waitstaff attentive. between three of us, we had the calamari appetizer (light breading and fried just right),seafoodplatter (everything tasty and not too greasy) and the shrimp platter (again, all good and not too greasy). there was more food than three average adults could eat. if i had a gripe it was that the "no cholestorol" oil they use in their "flash frying" left a slight aftertaste that wasn't exactly to my liking (my preference is peanut oil). it's a nitpick as the other diners didn't notice and declared everything really good. it's worth stopping in, but be prepared; our lunch was just under $80 after tip (with no alcohol, just tea).

the diesel fuel was awesome. theseafoodnachos, hands down the best nachos i've had. my girlfriend and i split them. i wasn't real iimpressed with the shrimp boat. it was ok but we enjoyed crabs dinner mich more. but all and all it was a good place and wed go back for the drinks and the nachos. the service was great as well..

their "signature"seafoodplatter: 4 dried out over cooked bait shrimp. 2 rock hard balls of crust about the size of a pair of dice that used to be oysters i think. a single piece of fish. 2 small strips of clam and a few crumbles. nice huh?

seafood nachos. loved theseafoodnachos appetizer - when they say it's good to share, they mean it! i ordered for lunch and could only get through about half. loaded with toppings - including shrimp, crabmeat and fish with shredded lettuce, cheese peppers, and olives - awesome!

quick service, pretty good food. we were in a hurry and they were accommodating and brought everything out quickly. the firecracker shrimp was tasty, the calamari is good (a little too salty but pretty good). we also got the fish chowder, which i thought was really bad. theseafoodused in the chowder was blatantly not fresh, and sub par. my sister liked it but i thought it was disgusting. it just tasted old and way too fishy, which freshseafoodwould never taste like. maybe some people prefer that but for a place that's called a chowder house, i expected a lot better. the atmosphere was very nice, and staff were friendly and attentive.

atmosphere is what's makes this place!! great feeling. food was good. had theseafoodnachos and grilled platter. both were good. are there other places yes. but this is a fine choice.
