flounders chowder house

greatservicewith mediocre food. we had just arrived in pensacol beach. starving and looking for somehting good to eat. we landed accross the street from our hotel at flounders. we had the 'flash fried" fish and fries. well the slaw was not to my liking since they use lemon pepper in it. however, the fish and fries were ok. pina colada (for $8.99) in a collectable flounders glass was delisiouc, yet a little over priced.servicewas awsome. wait staff curteous and even assisted a couple find a local pharmacy. glasses of water and tea never went dry. our waiter really made up for the lack of pizzaz in the food.

we were down on business and had the opportunity to dine at the flounders. theservicewas good and amazingly fast. we took the back entrance and found the atmosphere had a kind of campy, beachy feel with emphasis on boating and seafood. the menu was full of a good many choices for seafood lovers and land lubbers alike. our group of five started with several dozen raw and baked oysters which came out quick. the barservicewas just a little slow but all orders were right. the beer was cold and the drinks were just right. if you like long island tea be sure and try the diesel fuel it will probably be the only drink you'll need.
for entrees we had the yellow fin tuna, stuffed flounder, and multiple shrimp boat platters. everything arrived within minutes of placing our order and it was fresh, tasty and perfectly cooked.

on my next trip to pensacola beach i'll be going back to flounders!

better than i remembered.. i confess that we have eaten here in the past, but to be honest it has been so long ago that i really can't remember when. we gave this place a try, because my sister in law wanted to give it a try as some of her friends had recommended it to her. theservicewas pretty good, the place is certainly a lot more open than i remembered, and the important part, the food was pretty good. i got the seafood nachos, and wound up sharing them with everyone, since it was so big. everyone was happy with there selections and all thought that it was pretty good. i actually don't remember the food being this good years ago. maybe we hit it at a good time, or they have gotten better. either way, i think that i will give them another try in the future.

i'll go with a "like". my other half had the tuna, overdone but tasty, we'll take the hit for that because we didn't specify but they shoulda asked. i had a bunch of appetizers, starting with the oysters on the half shell, nice meaty and briney, but then again you can't go wrong in that part of the country. then the calamari, not overly breaded, nicely spiced with plenty of the tentacle pieces... my favorite. then the clams... don't do it, all breading and no flavor. i also had a cup of flouner chowder, awesome! someone else had the fried flounder and that looked awesome too, nice thick cut like a good cod. didn't taste it but i could tell it was good by how it looked and how fast it was gone! great atmosphere, right by the gulf, good drinks (i had the diesel fuel). goodserviceand good live music. i'd go back.

this was our only 2 visit restaurant during vacation. first trip there was a little disappointing (slow service, never got the sauces we needed with our meals, and the waiter messed up our check sooo many times). he did give us a key lime pie sample though and that was good. the food overall was good (hubby said the sushi was really good which is why we revisited). 2nd trip was much betterservicewise and i liked that the menu had enough variety that i was still having a hard time deciding what to order even having been there before.

our food was delicious, but ourserviceleft something to be desired. the ambiance is ‘eclectic’ and dimly lit.

we were excited to try the nightly special - the bushwhacker...at $2.50, we thought it was a great chance to try something new. we were disappointed to be served a substantially smaller serving than the regular size. you’re not fooling anyone flounder’s when you offer a special and give them a smaller serving - left feeling duped.

the entrees were very good, they were cooked well and seasoned nicely. it came to us hot. the asparagus was very, very bland and had no texture remaining. the chowder was very, very good - because our server forgot to bring it to us, he did not charge us.

extremely rudeservicefrom bartender anthony at the back tiki bar tonight. they were hosting a private event. one bartender said it was ok if the public purchased drinks at the reserved bar but that food could not be ordered from the bar and only people with wrist bands could sit down. that was fine. my friend ordered a drink from the bartender and paid. the other bartender then became busy with another customer. anthony then came up and asked if i needed a drink and asked if i had wristband. i said no and then my friend and myself explained what we had been told and that my friend was just served. anthony then increased the volume of his voice and informed us that bartender was in the wrong, and that he could not and would not help us. he then proceeded to say if we didnt like it we could just leave. i asked for his name. he then responded in a threating manner, "you wanting a manager i can go get one". i walked away from the situation. nick, another near by bartender had to go so far as to tell anthony he needed to calm down. i did not know if he was on drugs or taking frustrations out irrationally on others. extremely threatening and a horrible way to be treated, especially as a customer. i came out to celebrate a special event with friends and family tonight and anthony made me want to do nothing more than get my friends and family leave. so many other good places to have a great time on beautiful pensacola beach!

loved loved loved this place. atmosphere was great. casual, laid back beach theme. the shrimp and spinach dip was amazing! the onion rings were good but we prefer a flour coating rather than the bread crumb type. i had shrimp and bacon mac n cheese and the shrimp were huge and it was creamy and delicious. my husband had the stuffed flounder and it was good too. my daughter had the blackened cobia and it was good too.servicewas friendly and prompt, beer was cold. definitely will be back!

ate here this evening with the family. very happy with our choice. the drinks were great and the food was wonderful. servicewas quick and professional. the yeast rolls were awesome. i had the red snapper with red potatoes and asparagus. i had it blackened, i would eat here (even this exact meal) again. my husband had the coconut shrimp and cleaned his plate as well. very kid friendly. there is a great playground in the center of the restaurant. a great start to our vacation.

great place to eat at the beach, sit outside and enjoy the breeze.servicehas always been good, food is average but i think the fish tacos and nachos appetizer are their best items. playground for small kids and 2 volleyball courts on the sand. this is a nice place to just hang out and have a drink too. catch a live band performing.

great place to eat and neat atmosphere. kid's meals were a little skimpy, but they enjoyed themselves. fresh fish was good andservicewas excellent.

lunch at flounders. we had appetizers for lunch. although there are a few sandwiches available, there is no 'lunch' version of the menu. none the less, we forged ahead with parmesan baked oysters 15.99 and beer boiled peel and eat shrimp on ice 13.99 for a dozen each. our waiter richard, an older gentlemen, was upbeat, friendly, knowledgeable of the menu and very helpful. the parmesan baked oysters were delicious ! the beer boiled shrimp was truly boiled in beer with some mild spice & well chilled. they were very good. my dining companion and i chose two different versions of diesel fuel 9.99ea. i had the grateful dead, which is a raspberry version of long island ice tea. it had a great flavor and was not overly sweet. my companion had the mango madness which had good flavor as well, but was a little sweeter. this was a 32 oz souvenir jar full of long island ice tea, you'll leave with a buzz after just one.

it was not extremely busy, theservicewas excellent, and our waiter richard, came back to check on us several times. we found it to be a very enjoyable experience. the only downside: wish they had a 'lunch version' menu.

rude waiter. took my in-laws who were here visiting from maryland.servicewas average, food was average. upon settling our check, our server kurt (sp), came back to our table and asked if theservicewas ok. we said yes and as he was walking away, he said "yeah and tipped less than 10%". i called him back and asked what he said. he then showed me the receipt and said "you tipped less than 10%". as a former server, i know this is a complete no no! averageservicegets an average tip.

it wasn't the best seafood ever but was pretty good. the environment was fun and the kids really enjoyed the volleyball. theservicewas quick and friendly.

awesome time lackluster food. we went to flounders on sunday for brunch, wow... bottomless champagne is a dangerous game. my denver omlet was ok, but with that being said its not hard to prepare a omlet. my wifes boiled shrimp was the texture of old wet socks. on the bright side i had amaizingservicefrom my waiter ron and the fancy bartender dedrick. will come back again if for nothing else to watch the drunken cougars swarm around champagne glasses.
