fleet landing - january 2011. documenting my last overnight to charleston was visit barside at fleets landing. due to the cold-snap on the east coast, mostly locals were here. it seems everyone is on a first name basis, which gives one that welcomed feeling.
the bartender (wes) was fun and talkative. he reminded me a little of jesus as he delivered my food n brew. for a moment i envisioned me moving to charleston twirling bottles and conversating with others. this place seemed to be a very inviting environment.
don't be fooled by the concrete walls and garage style windows, the food is good everyday cooking (no sprouts and leaves here). from the inside, i would have to imagine there isn't much overhead for the owners for facility maintenance, but i need a break from fancy. i'm a middle-class type of guy.
pros: parking, seaside, bartender (wes) and staff are friendly and make you feel welcome (even if you're an introvert).
cons: difficult to back out of parking spaces if cars are waiting for your space. crabcakes on the side are very small. pricey, but most restaurants in charleston are.
clinton's recommendation:
visit the bar if you're in town on business or pleasure, thats where the waitresses congregate when business is slow. they have some wild stories.
