located in hillsboro village, fido is the preeminent college coffee hangout. owned by the team at bongo java and situated in a an old pet store, fido offers quality coffee, decent food and agoodatmosphere to hang out and work in (at least until they shut the wifi off). when i lived across the river i was a fixture at fido for brunch and during late afternoon work/study sessions. it's been a long time since i've been back for dinner since becoming and east-sider, so we headed over one night before a belcourt movie. inside, fido is clean, spacious and comfortable. lots of dark wood tones and low lighting make the room cozy, if not dark at times. since expanding, there are lots of tables available and when we went for dinner we had quite a few seating options. i will say that since this is a college hangout the demographic skews very young. something about young blonde belmont and vanderbilt students talking about biology class made me feel really old. but my favorite part of fido is th

my husband and i decided to try fido for breakfast this morning after seeing all thegoodreviews. we arrived about 10:45 parked in back and got right in. at fido you go to the counter to order and they bring out your food. my husband got the chorizo and eggs breakfast($10) which came with tortillas and hash browns as well as sour cream and salsa. i chose the steak and eggs scramble without the onion. my breakfast was $11 and came with hash browns and a piece of toast. we also got a chocolate biscotti and an orange cranberry scone. i waited on our drinks while my husband found us a table. we tried the biscotti while we waited on our meals. the biscotti was excellent and is made in house. our breakfasts came out surprisingly quick, both were very good. my eggs had fresh spinach and gouda cheese and the hash brown were hand cut. fido is eco friendly and uses paper straws. we were full so we took the scone to go.

fido a trendy coffee shop with great food! their coffee has great flavor and with a talented barista behind the counter expect some artwork on the top of your latte! the beef brisket sandwich is excellent and came with amazing fries! my girlfriend got the veggie option which was a portobello, roasted red pepper sandwich. she had nothing butgoodthings to say about the sandwich. overall it was well worth the stop and if we didn't live far away we definitely would be going back.

overhyped and a waste of time. i walked to fido from my hotel in order to do work. had i but known i would be wasting over an hour. when i walked in there was about a 2 minute line and though it was busy, the space is huge so there were plenty of seats. i was informed after ordering that the wifi was turned off during busy times. i asked when it would be back on and was informed that it probably wouldn't be on until at least 5pm. i was incredulous, but also hungry for lunch, and after reading reviews suggestion the fish tacos, i thought i could get a quick lunch. talk about adding injury to insult. the fish tacos were, to put it mildly, gross. they were greasy, the tortillas turned to glue in my mouth, and there was more avocado than anything else which basically meant that the taco tasted like gluey avocado that squirted grease with every bite. i couldn't take more than one bite of it. i had also, sadly, ordered sweet potato fries. these arrived cold, soggy, and inedible. they were clearly cooked because raw sweet potato would at least crunch, but these simply squished grease. the coffee was average. in order to actually do my work, i had to go to the starbucks down the street (another 30 minute walk) and their pumpkin spice latte is better. it's a sad day when you can say that about a local coffee shop. i cannot understand why people think this is agoodplace to go. it's unfriendly to people who want to sit in a coffee shop and do work, and the food is just bad.

long wait for saturday lunch butgoodfood. this was some absolute kickassgoodfood! but don't go during peak lunch hours on a saturday. we waited a long, long time to order, then another 15 minutes to get our food. don't stand in this line just for the coffee, but the food is worth it. did this instead of pancake pantry. if you want a lot of food, avoid the ham sandwich. my husband got it and the slices of ham were very thin! not enough food. the steak hash (i think this is the name of it) was great -- steak, eggs, onions, etc. taters, with salsa and sour cream. coffee was good. didn't try dessert, but should have.

to the counter. the food is good... by and large well prepared. there is nothing spectacular, the choices are varied and tasty. the price point is about right but maybe a scootch on the high side (15 dollars for a breakfast with a drink). the lack of a wait staff could be an issue if your used to being served. here you are the service.

a few negatives... the fries are meh. the baristas work is good... however i ordered a red eye and was given two shots of espresso in a paper cup. as in fill your own coffee in a paper cup. kinda a downer.

the village scrambler eaten by my dining companion was described as fresh. the potatoes were good. nothing spectacular. i had the eggplant tower. very tasty. awesome no... but good.

in short it was good. if you are sensitive about serving yourself or fussy about price point... don't go. however if the quirky counter service seems different and fun and thereto be experienced rather than a nuisance its agoodplace to go.

wait times for tables don't seem too long... waiting for your turn at the counter can be seem a bit long... but are comparable to the time you would wait sitting at a table for your order.

best burger in town - at a coffee shop?. it has become so time consuming to wait for brunch or lunch at fido on weekends that i finally resorted to having dinner at fido. wow, i'm glad i did!

fido had a beef/lamb burger as a special. it was the best burger i've had in nashville. it was sogoodthat i went back for a second one the next night. i can't remember exactly what topped the burger, but i know it included caramelized onions and some type of cheese with a bit of a kick (maybe goat cheese?).

the new, fancy burger joints in nashville ought to take a lesson from this coffee shop!
